The demand from Algiers is important to some Arabic or French speaking cities like NKC, BKO, NIM and OUA. Business is also increasing with DKR and ABJ. Next AH routes will be LBV and DLA. Of course putting in place a competitive Hub means opening new routes to Africa / increase frequency and adapt flight timing to attract transfer passengers

I understand that it's geographical location is quite good but it's not like their competitors will sit idly by. They will also have to compete with European carriers as well as Turkish Airlines. Not to mention that the market in many of these African markets might not be large enough for all those players...yet.

CZL-LIL 2 flights per week (resumption of a route that was operated only in summer during the 90s)

Air Algerie adds weekly Dalaman flight in August 2019

Air Algerie during the month of August 2019 is adding limited-time service on Algiers – Dalaman route, on board Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The scheduled charter is will be served on Thursdays from Algiers, between 01AUG19 and 30AUG19.

The things you read. I did not feel that at all last time I was in Algiers and Oran a couple of months ago. Some areas aren't safe but unless you are working in Oil and Gas you don't have any reason to go there.

The civil war ended in 1999, 20 years ago, and even during what Algerians call the black decade (the 90s), some tourists visited Algeria during that period especially the south

Unlike some poor countries in North Africa, Algeria, is the only country in the region where a tourist can walk without any problem as no one will disturb him or ask him for money

I've traveled to Algeria a number of times, in major cities (Algiers, Oran, Constantine, Annaba, ...) as well as secondary cities, each time with a rental car, lots of driving, lots of walking in cities, staying overnight in small towns, and can tell you for a fact that the country is not dangerous, certainly not to the point that a foreigner can’t really walk around unescorted without fear of kidnap, violence etc.

Like everywhere else, some places can have their problems but the country as a whole isn't unsafe, and its citizens are very welcoming. Use common sense to figure out which areas to avoid, especially at night. The main danger in my opinion are the sometimes crazy driving habits, but even then, a little bit of caution will save you from trouble.

Oh and, it helps a lot to at least have a basic understanding of the culture and customs, people will be friendly and helpful if they feel that you care about that.

Be aware that the accommodation/restaurant scene, while vastly better than it was a couple of years ago, is still lagging.

The various new routes mentioned in this thread show that the situation is normal and the demand is growing. Many of these routes are aimed at VFR (namely, for the huge Algerian diaspora in France/Belgium), but business is growing as well in Algeria (although it still has a long way to go to meet decent standards and be investor-friendly).

Fearmongering. A lot of Algerian diaspora have this idea that Algeria isn’t safe but I’d say you’re just as safe in Algeria as you would be in Morocco.

With regards to tourist/transit visas in Algeria, my understanding is that the regime remains very weary about about foreign influence/access to Algeria - for whatever reason. The visa process is fairly long and complex.

A friend went to Algiers recently and posted pictures and it looked like quite an OK city. It reminded me of Marseille. Apparently it even has even a modern metro. The only one in Maghreb.

That is a very bad sign. Before the Arab Spring the Middle Eastern/Arab countries that had the most complex visas were Syria, Libya and Saudi Arabia. The two first... look at how they ended. Saudi is "stable" because of the US but even they are now liberalising tourist visas.

ALG-LYS : 10 flights per week (9 during summer pic)
ORN-ORY : Daily => 11 flights per week
BJA-ORY : Daily => 10 flights per week
ALG-MLH : New, 2 flights per week

This program is valid till end of September

Tassili Airlines also opened ALG-ORY, daily till end of September

I see from 9 October to 2 November, the only serviceable runway 09/27 at Algiers Airport (05/23 still being resurfaced), will be closed every night from 22:30 to 04:00 am for maintenance.

Frequency increase to ABJ, OUA and NIM will allow additional connection possibilities via ALG from several French and European AH destinations
The increase to CAI, AYT, LYS or VLC from ALG is mainly to adapt to increasing demand for these routes in summer
New ALG-MLH by AH is replacing ALG-MLH by ZI. AH was before only landing in MLH from CZL

Additional frequencies from Other Algerian cities to France is also to adapt to the disappearance of ZI. AH is taking this opportunity to consolidate its leading in several markets
CZL-LIL was a seasonal route in the 90s. Now it is an annual route. AH is in competition with Tuifly in LIL and CRL

This move will facilitate the transit of AH passengers domestic <=> International flights as the T1/Hall 1 building is connected to the new T4 (Terminal Ouest)

From Dec 1st 2019 to End of February 2020, Air Algerie will add a 6th ALG-CDG rotation, each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

During this 3 months period, AH will have 38 weekly flights ALG-CDG (up to 6 per day) and 25 weekly flights ALG-ORY (up to 4 per day) for a total of 63 weekly flights (9 per day)

Seems that Algeria and France have agreed to add 7 flights per week during 3 months till ZI trafic rights will be re-attributed

AH will have 3 extra ALG-CDG flights per week (Dec-Feb)
AF will start 4 weekly ALG-ORY (Jan-Mar)
