"Greasers"

We've had a topic about worst landings, but at the other end of the spectrum is those wonderful landings where you don't know you've actually touched down until you hear the reversers or until someone claps!

My first one was in Shannon, Ireland, in July 1987, on a Northwest DC10, but last March, I flew on a Cathay 777-300 to Osaka from Hong Kong, via Taipei. The landing in Taipei, 06, was impercetible - a real "grease job". Anyone want to share a memory?

My best landing was onboard US Airways. We were flying from PIT to PHL onboard a Boeing 737-400. I was seated right on the wing so i couldnt see the ground directly underneath me. We came in over the river and i knew we would be down soon. I didnt fel a thing and not one thing shook. I realized we were on the ground when the spoilers came out and the engines went into reverse. i have to hand it to him. It was a turbulent flight to PHL through a storm and he completely made up for it.
Why would God make us all so different, if He wanted us to be the same?

Not that I'm totally biased or anything, but I have to give my best to an SQ flight into the old Kai Tak. Smooth approach without a single over-correction, no noise, no shaking till the reversers came out, absolutely wonderful given Kai Tak's challenge. I was on the upper deck and I went to the cockpit to congrat the crew, the only time I have done that.

A family that has been my friends for a long time stay 2 blocks east of the Kai Tak approach path just beyond the perimeter fence. They told me that over the years, they have come to recognize SQ and CX flights just by the (low level of) noise when the planes come in on final. Granted, part of that has to do with the newer planes that both lines fly, but I think it also reflects on the level of confidence and control that the captains have on the situation.

By the way, it was a wonderful sight from their balcony. Alas, the old days are gone forever and it pains me to see them hold carnivals and walkathons on that sacred tarmac.

Smoothest landing: On a Sabena B747.300 coming from ORD and landing in Brussels.
I Didn't feel a thing untill the reverse.
