2012 BOEING 747-8I For Sale. VVIP interior, low mileage.

Aircraft produced green by Boeing and delivered in Dec 2012., Interior installation by Boeing San Antonio, USA - completed in Dec 2014, Aircraft entered into VVIP service in Jan 2015 for Qatar Royal Flight.

Quite nice looking interior!

403 flight hours, wow. Thats the jet of the late father of the current ruler of Qatar. Apparent reason for sale: death of the owner almost two years ago. He could only use it for less than two years.
The exterior picture is crudely photoshopped so not to show the elaborate livery it wears. And behind it is an SP, likely also the one of the same former owner which is also for sale.

Can the sanctions/embargo really be hurting that bad? Ive got to think they're gonna take a bath on this even if they can sell it. 403 total hours, what a waste! Maybe one of the oligarchs will buy it?

They have been trying to sell it for a while now, before the embargo. The market for a VIP 747 is very limited though.

You'll need John Leahy powers to shift that thing!

Any potential buyer will wish to make such a thing his own, which means stripping the interior and putting a new one in to his liking. That's 2 years and roughly 150-250M, depending on the level of over-boardness and provided they can use existing security systems. Add another 20-50 if not.

Also have to find a buyer able to afford running a 748 but also willing to take a used plane (the horror!)

The people who can afford to buy and operate a 748 are unfamiliar with the word “modest.”

There is a lot of vanity involved in having a VIP 748- the buyer is going to want everything tailored to their exact desires and taste. Those who can afford it often want new just to say they bought the plane new. There are also rules and etiquette involved. A random middle eastern prince can’t have a nicer jet than the ruling King for example (and remember- size matters, not just how nice the interior is). This all makes selling a used VIP 748 difficult. Sometimes the planes get gifted to a lesser ally when the original owner is done with them.

I think this one have aero loft, which takes from the tarmac straight in.
Qatar Amira also have one 747-8i undergoing VIP installation somewhere, in addition to the 2 in service (A7-HHT & A7-HBJ). State of Qatar should be the biggest operator of 747VIP fleet !!

Realistically, it might be purchased by another Government. The Australian Government could do with a new state aircraft, the A330s have other duties and the B737-700s are not ideal.

Seriously, the fair market value of the aircraft is not easy to estimate as the market is quite "special". I presume the acquisition price of the aircraft with the interior has been around $400-500M. I suppose any offer in the $150-200M range would be very interesting to the seller.
