Flybe reveals updated livery

Just noticed on their Facebook page a photo of a tail covered over with the comment "What's hiding under here then?"

A new livery or a one off special?

Perhaps they've gone purple/white and ditched the red/yellow/blue mixture. Would match their their new "Close to you" branding.

This pink/mauve shade also features in their refreshed branding and on the website. Looks like a new livery to me.

I'm reliably informed it's a new livery. Orange and red are being dropped, as well as the purple wings.

They haven't even gotten the rest of the fleet painted into the new livery they launched well over 2 years ago, why are they now redoing another one.

Good question, why do Flybe do a lot of the things they do though? Their decision making is just bizarre and they show little aptitude for running an airline.

This is an airline only a short distance from bankruptcy which seems unable to make a decent profit even when everything is in their favour (strong economy in the UK, fuel prices not too high, no major terrorism scares, etc). As soon as one major problem arises, they could be staring insolvency in the face. If you don't believe me - look at the share price over the last year and their market cap.

Right now there should be a major cost-cutting drive with strong focus on a lean-and-mean operation aiming to build up cash for a rainy day. Yet they waste scarce resources on another new livery. What planet is management on ?

BE should concentrate on getting reliable on-time air services up & running before mucking about with more livery variations.
Several of my colleagues have had their SEN - GLA flight cancelled in November to attend our annual conference and are left with expensive alternatives now.

Never had any problems with delays etc. on Flybe but think that is more luck than anything else. If on time performance etc. is as bad as some say then they should focus on that rather than livery

For those saying they should save money and cut costs, that's fair enough but all aircraft need repainting at some stage or another. I think it tends to fall every eight years or so. They don't just get a single coat to last a lifetime.

Sure they could leave it longer but when it starts to look shabby, or starts to flake off, what perception would that create in the eyes of a customer? If they have an aircraft that is due for a new coat, then there's no additional expense involved by amending the livery, in fact quite the opposite if fewer colours/less time is involved in the job.

Looking at the new website and you could well be spot on. They've ditched the red and yellow totally, as well as the light blue

Yeah, nah, yeah, nah, yeah look... Feels Like You're Being Executed. Since the acquisition of BA Connect in 2006, Flybe have believed they are a big airline. And they're not. There are too many individuals there that feel their own self importance is more of a priority than ensuring customers are happy. I've seen it first hand. This is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt at a PR exercise to improve their image by saying everything is "New and Improved", but the reality is that nothing has changed, they're still more of a cowboy outfit than Butch Cassidy's clothing, and our friend here outlined the reality perfectly:

Any retro livery wouldn't carry the name Flybe though. There was a small 12-18 month period where they had a British European livery which was a very basic modification of the Jersey European livery. The retro JEA livery is probably the only one that looks truly retro but I can't see them plastering that on a Q400 any time soon.

From the photos it appears to be a white forward fuselage, wings and engines, a lilac section aft the wings and a purple tail with white lettering.

I've just flown into Manchester this morning, and I saw what looked like a Q400 with a black tailfin parked at T3. We parked on the other side of the terminal so I didn't get a close look (I was flying with Ryanair in from Girona). I did wonder what it was all about, as I didn't think any airline with a black fin would be flying Q400s in to Manchester!

A fresh lick of paint is not going to solve their problems, just ask the residents of the Channel Islands.!!!. Jack Walker would be turning in his grave if he saw what had become of them, especially recently, following their link up with Blue Islands. fare increases and punctuality are the biggest issues we have. thank god we, in Jersey at least, have U2 to help us get off the "Rock". Flymaybe are an embarrassment now.!!!

That will be G-ECOI which is still in partial Air Brussels livery.

I really like this new livery! More sharp and will certainly up its brand perception. Now, a new seating product would give the airline a new start in generating revenue and changing its customer perception of the airline.

Although I liked the former colours I have to admit that I much prefer this more simplified version, it looks far more sharp in my opinion and I wasn't expecting to say that but yes it looks good and far better than was previous.

It reminds me a lot of the old Air Southwest livery on the Q300. I liked the purple livery and I liked the blue and white one before...not sure about this though.

Not too bad, certainly seen worse, even if it's a little bland towards the front and a touch too 'tail heavy'. Tail heavy liveries are quite common now, but it is at least clean and professional for an LCC.

Accountants don’t run the business.
The finance team has controls and the accountants report on the success or otherwise of targets, BUT they don’t set strategy or decide where money is spent or indeed how much money is in the pot. That’s a management or board decision, accountants make sure that those decisions are carried out fairly and within the rules.

I wonder if the small titles are to allow space for a decal of some descripton to be applied to the fuselage? Their current tag line is “close to you”, so maybe regional cities/places of interest/natural beauty from around the U.K.? Like Frontier have wildlife tails.

That's a significant improvement on the final product. The small titles make the livery look unfinished. I'm afraid that the rest of it isn't much good either; the light purple swoosh stops very abruptly as soon as it reaches the tail, while the dark purple swoosh is a very awkward shape. The scheme certainly doesn't flow and it doesn't look complete. Regardless, this entire exercise (coming so soon after the introduction of the last livery) implies a deep-rooted lack of identity and direction at the company - that's my main takeaway from this.

It is crisp and clean, but maybe the dots could have been in bright colors. It would pop it a bit without being too garish. And I agree with larger titles in the front. It certainly isn't the worst refresh in airline history.

It’s not really showing a deep-rooted lack of identity, as the branding is similar to before. It is showing that the old livery was way too expensive for Flybe.
