Rumour: Lufthansa transferring its A330-300 to Eurowings

Wed Sep 05, 2018 7:21 pm

Hey everyone!
Just discovered that 4 of currently LH A330-300 are going to be transferred to EW and being operated by SN. The first one, D-AIKJ, flew to MLA 3 days ago (will be OO-SFJ). D-AIKA will follow him and be OO-SFK. Then D-AIKG/H are planned then. So, does LH want to replace their A333s? Maybe because of more A346s coming to FRA (+D-AIHB/H last month) and new A359s in MUC?

Likely A359s. I expect that these will replace the A332s and be standardized with OO-SFB.

I’ve heard that OO-SFB will be returned to SN next year.

Are LH going to reconfigure these A333s for Eurowings into a more higher density layout or leave them as they were (which I highly doubt)?

If HD then what is the newly proposed layout ?

If they become OO registered wouldn’t they be used by Eurowings from BRU?

Nope. There are already Eurowings A340s registered in Belgium flown by Brussel Airlines that are flying long haul from Germany. I think the intention is for SN to eventually take over all Eurowings long haul flying (still under Eurowings branding and service though).

Some A346s will remain for a while in the Lufthansa fleet, I imagine that the arrival of these A333 and A343 Eurowings will open more routes from Dusseldorf like Newark, Boston, Toronto, Chicago, Orlando, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Delhi, and possibly Bangkok throughout the year

The 2 EW A340-300s and some stored A340-600s are supposed to come back to LH.

Some A346's are being moved to FRA because of the A380's now coming to Munich. I addition, MUC will receive more A359's.

My guess is that the A346's are replacing the A333's from FRA to add capacity (also, the resale value of the A346's are low due to not too many airlines operating them) The A333's will then, along with the A340's offer a more unanimous fleet at EW. A346's are probably too big for some of EW's current and future planned destinations.

As regards to changing the interior, maybe some more seats in economy, but I saw that EW was now going to offer a "proper" business class on their long-haul fleet.

This is interesting. Won't this muddled up SN and EW widebody fleet even more? Correct me if I'm wrong both SN and EW are currently operating A330 from different sources with different engines and cabin configuration.

The EU is a single market for all European airlines. Any EU carrier can operate between any two points within the EU, including domestic flights.
Traffic rights between EU and non-EU members often, not always, grant rights to all EU carriers.

Brussels Airlines is to take over all marketing, sales and planning for Eurowings long-haul flights, and hand-over the same responsibilities for short-haul flights to Eurowings.

Really? I saw the information that all CityLine A343s are to transfer to EW.

According to several people in german forums the 2 A340-300s are coming back to LH. After all those fleet transfers there will be 7 A332 operated by Sunexpress Deutschland and 5 A333 operated by Brussels in the EW fleet.

Excellent news!

SN operates A330s from many different backgrounds anyway. At the moment they have been taking delivery of A330-300 235TMTOW RRs from Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific (with the view to replacing their older aircraft), so some A330-300RRs from Lufthansa (of not much older vintage) should fit in just fine.
First to fly the 787-9

It feels like LH has its hands quite full at the moment with the integration of all these airlines. I suspect we will see further developments also affecting OS routes from VIE. Might be a while until we know what the fleet plan is with regard to further A330s (NEOs) or other types.

They’ve already refused to update OS old long-haul fleet.
