AN 124 at McConnell AFB yesterday. Reason transporting fuselage for Spirit?

Fri Sep 07, 2018 7:06 pm

A AN-124 arrived at McConnell AFB yesterday. I was told it unloaded a couple of items - inconclusive exactly what. Still there. The last time it was in town was a couple months ago when Spirit was late loading a fuselage onto the trains. I presume the same has happened. Won't know until it departs again. Since its previous destination prior to ANC was ICN it's plausible they were bringing parts from SK as well.

Interestingly, N747BC just parked next to it as well. https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/n747bc

You'd think that with the backlog of airplanes overflowing at the factory in Washington, that they'd rather delay the fuselages rather than airfreight them over there.

Right lay off staff great ploy when the issues are with engine supplier.
Those global suppliers in the chain need to get paid and have their parts dispatched many of whom will NEED cash flow I am sure !

The air show is this weekend at McConnell which is slated to have the Dreamlifter and a C-5 on static display. It would of been a great picture to have all three aircraft lined up next to each other.

Yes. I managed to get many pictures of the Dreamlifter, C-5, C-17 and C-130. Sadly they did not have them all lined up. The AN-124 left just before the airshow started.

I managed to get a few photos as well but had trouble with the lighting on day one and day two I stayed off base - didn't want to deal with the massive crowd.

So the AN124 went to SFO. Any ideas now about what it was for?

They tend to spend a lot of time transporting helicopters and disassembled small aircraft for defense contracts. Somebody getting a fresh batch of armed C208s?

Somebody (Stephen Trimble?) on twitter mentioned that the An-225 was hired to airlift relief supplies from SFO to Guam - perhaps that report was a mistake, and it is an An-124?

The An-225 arrived at OAK last night and is currently flying OAK-PHNL as ADB2586.

OP didn’t say anything about layoffs.

The 124 that was SFO last night (RA82078) operated by Volga Dnepr is heading to HNL alongside the 225 which is already there.

Nobody mentioned anything about layoffs ... although at some point production may need to temporarily stop.
Some of the problems, delays, quality issues started at Spirit.
It is not 100% engine suppliers, it includes many problems.

That said - AN124 was not transporting any Spirit items.
