With the power of the ATI-immunized TATL JV with DL, I suspect that AF will be much more successful this time around. I wish them great success.

Still, it would have been better to see KLM open daily DFW-AMS service. AMS connections are so much easier and more pleasant than connections via CDG. It's very frustrating to specifically want to book a connection via AMS, but delta.com will only offer connections via CDG.

That J seat they use on their A330 is awfully awful. They are updating the seat over the next couple years to the one that UA uses on their 787s :o

One sidelight: with the DL pilots already saying there is an "imbalance" between DL-metal and AF/KL/VS-metal flights, I wonder if Delta will be announcing some new European route... or maybe taking-over a current AF flight...

Now, is the arrive time and departure time similar to KLM's old arrive and departure time? If so that is slap on the face on those mean and arrogant posters here.

Well done OP! I congratulate you to make these mean old timers eating their own words. And I sincerely hope the 'slot' is the KLM old departure and arrival time!!!

Ok I found a 2011 time table

KL669 1-3-567 AMS dep 10:35 arr DFW 13:55
KL670 1-3-567 DFW dep 15:40 arr AMS 08:00+1

And the AF flight:
AF150 CDG dep 10:10 arr DFW 13:50
AF159 DFW dep 15:45 arr CDG 08:15+1

I don't know what you think. but to me, the old KLM slot in DFW for the new AF flight is pretty much spot on.

Not too long ago (I think last year) Delta ran a 757 between PHL and CDG after AF dropped the route. They did compete directly with AA 767/A330 equipment though. I would love to see KLM serve PHL or AF make a return, but neither seems likely to me.

This year Delta drop service between PHL and LHR. Needless to say I think no Skyteam airline is coming back for a while :(

Also congrats on DFW for getting Air France service.

Have the union actually published a study showing that JV flying is out of balance, or are pilots just complaining without knowing?

Because A332 are retiring soon

Their A330s are supposed to be refurbished starting at the end of this year; doubtful they will be retired soon

The A332 are here to stay for another 5 years minimum. They will get the new Business seats /IFE / WiFi starting November 2018.

Delta already did a month or two ago: LAX-AMS and LAX-CDG going daily in 2019, (from the current 3x weekly to CDG and 4x weekly to AMS) and the second daily JFK-CDG starting in 2019.

I think that if DL’s new MCO-AMS proves successful we will see MCO-CDG either on DL or AF.

I don’t know what makes me happier, AF being bold and opening an unexpected route like CDG-DFW or a 15 y.o schooling all the know-it-all on this forum that can’t stop themselves on being agressive.

Every time I'm at AMS, I wonder how 20+ daily DL widebody flights is felt as an unbalance . . . . . to DL pilots!!!

it would be nice if AF started MSY service.

It'd also be completely out of character for AF in the USA.

AF doesn't serve medium-hub airports, and for the most part, their typical markets have at least triple the kind of throughput that MSY handles; exceptions being IAD (split operation with diplomatic + African diaspora travel) and previously CVG (hub-hub).

AF also doesn't do primarily-leisure markets:
they failed miserably in MCO and never even attempted LAS.

As nice as it'd be to see AF in MSY, and reestablish some semblance of Louisiana's sunsetting "French connection"...... it's extremely unlikely any time soon.

For an airport with barely 13million pax, and a metro with barely 1.5million people-- that's a lot of competition.

That's also part of the equation. MSYs actual catchment is probably closer to 3 or 4 million depending on how far out you want to go. It's the largest airport in the region. BTR is over 800k in pop and an hour away. Gulfport\Biloxi is 1.5 hours away and aroud 600k in population. Throw in Hammond, Houma, and surrounding areas, you have a lot people and a lot of then have disposable income and work in fields that require travel.

I'm aware. But the same concept also applies to every other market AF has elected to send its own metal vis-a-vis other options: I'm hard-pressed to think of a single such metro market they serve without a catchment of at least 5million and throughput of at least 30m.

DL will take those risks on the j/v's behalf, but not AF. Barring CVG, they never really have.

Except DL dropped PIT-CDG; whether that was because BA announced PIT-LHR or if that was predetermined before BA's announcement is open to debate, but DL dropped PIT.
