Looking at the latest ANKER report for Sept YoY pax numbers, Istanbul airports see small gains whereas AYT and DLM are both up 18%. But ESB is down 10%, why is that? Also AtlasGlobal pax numbers are down 35%.

Well one those routes DPS is an entirely new one. The IAD bird essentially will go to EWR. The remainder is pair of A332 that cover ATL and the BOG/PTY rotation.

There should a few more 787 routes announced into Q4 2019 as TK will have 6 787 deliveries by end of 2019. 2020 sees 9 more 787s and first 5 of the A350s.

With TK moving to the new airport, I wonder if the connecting flight waves would shift. TK just announced that it will significantly increase frequencies on some routes (KBP, for instance, will go from 2x to 4x on some days). I wonder how the schedule might change. Currently, the flights tend to be more or less equally distributed across the 24 hrs. With 2x becoming 4x does this mean morning, afternoon, evening, night?

Rumors around that TK threatened LH for no slots at new Istanbul Airport unless they pull out of ESB, logical actually why would LH axe ESB with an average 90% load factor, a destination they serve daily since 1970...Well done TK, bingo, if that was the intention, there is no European premium airline left at ESB finally, this is a first in ESB's history since it was opened in 1955...IST also is the busiest airport in Europe with the least number of foreign airlines...This resembles St Louis and TWA to me, TWA went bust and the city wiped out from the map, I hope we will not see that happening along the line...

And what was the reason of axing TK-LH codeshare and kicking them out of T2 MUC?

Ankara has been down 3 months in a row Aug-Oct. -1.4, -7.2, -10.2

This is because of the economical crises. ESB may recover back by Q1-19 as foreign currencies are returning to more reasonable levels. But damage is done beyond easy repair. Lets follow Oct/Nov results for early indications.
The future is in the skies.

Well it is official :bouncy:
I am going to be on one of the first TK 787-900 flights; TK8, IAD-IST on August 8th.
Hopefully will get an upgrade to the new Business Class in the coming days and be one of the first ones to fly the new 1-2-1 lay out.
I thought the TK 787-900s had 30J/270Y layout, but the website seat assignment seat shows only 267Y seats and J section is not even there.
Even funnier, TK employee on the phone during the reservation said this: "You know we are not sure if you will be landing on the new airport or the current one"..
What!!!!!????, that is 10 months from now, better have that "big bang" move all done by then. Very strange to hear that from a TK reservation employee.

Not sure it has been mentioned, but Pegasus is starting SAW-RTM on Dec 16. It has been ages since Pegasus launched a new destination from SAW to Western Europe.

https://www.luchtvaartnieuws.nl/nieuws/ ... n-istanbul

The very latest news is that the € 500 million agreement between UniFree (the German Heinemann Group owned Turkish origin duty-free company) and IGA has been unexpectedly and very recently terminated. UniFree was entitled not only for the "traditional duty-free items" (liquer, tobacco, perfumery & cosmetics, etc.) but they have also sub-leased all non F&B sales outlets on the airside. Well, of course this has got little with the airport operations, but one wonders how a solution will be found to replace and rectify this last minute commercial mishap and make the place look like a real international terminal and real global hub! :banghead:

On the other hand, a relatively influential news site (kokpit.aero's) chief editor has recently "recomended" that things should be taken slowly and one at a time, and TK's final establishment at INA should better be prolongued until end May 2019.

So that does mean that ISL has currently no tenants for the retail areas? Crazy. :o

The latest "insider news" is that the issue between Unifree/Heinemann Group has been "solved" behind closed doors, but no official announcement as yet.

THY, has officially declared that they have now signed a new agreement between them & Turkish Do & Co, for the catering side of the business. But it seems that the Catering Facility at the New Istanbul Airport will not be ready & equipped for a while and during the gap period, all catering will be carried to the New Airport, from the current facility at AHL. That's one another reason why TK is so reluctant and unwilling to move to the New Airport.

They were told to open a small section to be ready for 8th November, when Baku flights begin.

Correct me if I am wrong, this is happening in front of the International Gates. I remember when taxiing along there, there is a weird left turn from the center point, just like this plane is making before it stopped. I've witnessed it few times watching from the front camera of our taxiing plane.

Yes you are correct. I think atc should give more clear instructions and monitor traffic at that area.

Thanks MeCe,
Also, I think there are two different colors for center line; yellow goes straight and orange makes that turn to the left for some distance and comes back to the center line. Do you know why is that? Why there are two different color center lines there? Thank you.

...to allow parallel taxi for narrowbodies. As the space is pretty limited, planes always had to hold either at the gate for pushback clearance or on the taxiway to allow for pushback. In a parallel scenario (considering no widebody is involved) its possible to push out while another is taxiing by. Still very risky though....

As far as I remember, orange and blue lines goes straight all the way between gates 208-226. If you see google maps you can see how complicated and confusing taxi lines in front of gate 226 There is warning print about max wing span but it is obvious not enough.

Slightly off topic, here is new Istanbul Airport daigram. So many ground frequencies, so many taxiways too big I am curious to see it
