Delta Incident at JFK 10/1/18?

Tue Oct 02, 2018 12:45 am

Just landed BA from LHR at JFK. As we landed there was a Delta jet on one of the taxi areas with a ton of fire trucks and cruisers surrounding it. Didnt see slides or anything, I think there were stairs but not sure
Were sitting here because I guess we cant get to T7. Anyone know whats going on?

It’s A/C #180, N180DN operating DL420 to Accra.

Additionally tonight, DAL2292 an A319 flying LGA-MSP diverted to JFK. The reason was apparently a birdstrike on takeoff.

Birdstrike out of LGA on a 320 series a/c, surely that triggered memories of some onboard of Sully and all.

Alternate theory: surely it didn't.

Be interesting to find out if the overheated gear was a cause of the RTO, or a result of the RTO.

(it's not uncommon for this to happen on a big, loaded, heavy jet at speed; the heat generated stopping that amount of mass is simply astounding)

edit: apparently they RTO'd, and exited the runway, with the overheat warning occurring during taxi.

That would lend a conclusion that this was a overheat due to RTO ... and as noted, probably something you'd expect (rather than not) on this kind of high energy abort.
