When is 78J GE certification by FAA due?

Tue Oct 02, 2018 10:42 am

When is this due? There was a thread some months ago that certification was being held back due to icing issues in the GE engine. Have we got a confirmed date yet for UAL's first delivery. Any progress update on resolving these issues? UAL are now talking about entry into service in Q1 2019, domestic only. But from memory these aircraft were due for delivery about now.

You made it sounds like a confirmed news.....

Suggested a title change to at least add a question mark.

UA’s first 78J has pretty much been just sitting at CHS (other than the hurricane evacuation) for a couple months. Whether this is due to the certification matter or something else, I don’t know. Current schedule is for delivery November 1st. The second just rolled off FAL, third to start FAL soon, and fourth will be the refurbished ex N548ZC from the test program. It’s possible UA chose to hold off delivery as they didn’t want/need to have just the one alone for three months ?

If what I am think of is what you are talking about, it might have just happened. The 787 TCDS was updated on 9/21/2018, and the 787-10 section includes the GEnx-1B74/75/P2 and GEnx-1B76/P2 engines.

Or are we talking about two completely different things?

I’m no expert at legalese, but that does seem to be an approval for 78J to operate GEs.

That certainly looks like approval.

I didn't realize how much more continuous thrust the Trent has over the GE:. 71,818 vs. 68,600 or 4.6% more.

There is so much paperwork that can hold up, I am not sure.
