Air Canada Summer 2019 long-haul changes

Wed Oct 03, 2018 8:04 am

Amongst other changes, from YUL, flights to FRA, NRT and PVG will be upgauged to 789, replacing the 788 that were in use this year.

I'm curious to see whether YVR-ZRH will return or not next year.

Current AC Schedule shows YVR-ZRH will increase to 5x weekly 788.

Also other YVR changes from the schedule:
YVR-KIX reduces to 5x weekly 788
YVR-DUB reduces to 4x weekly 763 Rouge
YVR-DEL increases to daily 789
YVR-MEL increases to 4x weekly 789

Also, less familiar with YUL and YYZ, but seems like:
YUL-BOD new route 4x weekly 7M8
YYZ-WAW convert back to Rouge

Ok, good to know. They've had some success then to keep it and even increase frequencies. AC and LX are Star members, is there enough market to keep this service along with Edelweiss?

Interesting. Thus TS would loose its monopoly on the route where they had three frequencies this summer.

Along with YUL-BOD, also just announced
- daily YYZ-VIE (B789)
- daily YUL-VIE (B763 op by Austrian)

Ah, Montreal gets service on Austrian, that's cool! I've long been hoping we would. What with TAP and Aer Lingus apparently coming we're narrowing the operator gap a bit with YYZ.

I get the feeling this spells the end of Austrian to YYZ, seems optimistic that the market could sustain over doubling the daily seat count.

Very interesting to see Air Canada utilize the 7M8 on transatlantic routes. This has the potential to open up a slew of new markets from eastern Canada to Europe.

True, this leads to ask whether they'd open a YQB-CDG service, even seasonal? TS had 4x weekly service during this summer and keep it at once weekly year-round IIRC.

AC is replacing OS on YYZ-VIE. AC-LH joint venture in full swing.

Also, nice to see Austrian resume YUL. Will give my family one more option to get from YUL to EVN.
us Air Traffic Controllers have a good record, we haven't left one up there yet !!

In some ways the 7M8 routes are the most interesting, generally adding new routes rather than just converting 788 to 789 or similar.

I've lost track a bit of the current AC 7M8 TATL network. I believe it includes:

YUL-KEF
YUL-DUB
YYZ-SNN
YHZ-LHR
YYT-LHR
with YUL-BOD to come

Is there anything else? With all the discussion about the Norwegian 7M8 network and whether Jetblue will go TATL or not, it seems that AC are quietly getting on with making it a success.

Great news on the upgrades to Asia and FCO from Montreal. Now Austrian which is a nice addition. Yul seems to be growing nicely these days. That upcoming airport expansion will be s growth vehicle

Just read Air Canada will introduce YUL-UVF with the 737MAX this winter. Not trans-Atlantic but still a decently long route. 3700km

FDF is also supposed to get max service, assuming it will be YUL-FDF.

All in all, impressive expansion from Montreal, that's a lot of additional seats.

8 frames so:
YVR-KIX
YVR-LHR (AC896)
YVR-ZRH
YVR-CDG
YVR-BNE (2x frames counting the YUL tag)

That leaves 2x 788s. Any old Mainline 763 routes to be taken over?

As an aside, might YYZ-NAP be in the cards?

Add to that list YYZ-MXP which is switching from 789 to 788 (S18 vs S19).

Will be any other 788 flying out of Toronto next summer?

I believe the A333s were slated to be based at YUL, and there are no 763s based at YUL. I believe the remaining A333s will be running TATL to larger European destinations (2nd dailies on LHR, CDG, primary on LYS, etc.). Some will be out while they're being refitted as well, I imagine.

Out of curiosity, why the big difference in opinion between the two? Same seat, same benefits in terms of humidity and air quality. If anything, the 789 benefits from having more J class seating so you have a better chance of scoring an upgrade.

I think AC is wanting to retire those 763s soon, and with the upgauging at YUL to Asia they've freed up a few 788s...so there's hope.

The pilots are based out of YUL. Doesn’t mean flights can’t originate elsewhere. Pilots deadhead places.

There is no Rouge base in YVR. Yet rouge planes still fly out of there. And will continue to do so.

Has Air Canada flown to Scandinavia from YVR? I wonder if that could be a possible future connection especially since SK doesn't fly to YVR (or anywhere in Canada from I believe).
CPH would be a good Star Alliance connection or OSL.

I can't imagine why, it rarely goes with more than 20 open seats with J almost always fully booked.

It restarts the end of March, 6 times a week, then daily across the summer. I would guess when the 767 is eventually retired from mainline, the 787 or A330 will take over the route.
Just because I stopped arguing, doesn't mean I think you are right. It just means I gave up!

Surprised to see YYZ-ICN get such a big capacity increase. Never imagined that AC would offer more capacity than KE which has been dominating this route for quite a while.

Yes Summer 2013 both from YUL and YYZ, right before the launch of Rouge.

I doubt BCN will see the return of mainline service, it is purely a leisure destination

YUL/YYZ-ATH is a better candidate for future mainline AC service.

I'm just curious as to why not many new routes are added out of YYZ, seems like AC is more focusing on YVR and YUL instead. Is YYZ at capacity or there is no potential new routes AC can do out of there that is profitable anymore?

I believe gate space is a problem at YYZ currently, but its slowly being addressed

Ah, sorry. I assumed you meant as in working while flying for biz purposes, not as an employee of the airline. That's fair, I'm guessing the small size of J might be a big part of what makes it easier?

Ah, sorry. I assumed you meant as in working while flying for biz purposes, not as an employee of the airline. That's fair, I'm guessing the small size of J might be a big part of what makes it easier?

Actually the small J cabin is the only minor nuisance, in that there are only 2 designated j positions.
What makes it so nice to work is that there are 2 small y cabins. Service flows and lends to us being more customer centric, as we would like to be.

I just knew it haha, it's like ORD all over again but at YYZ. Honestly they really should build the expanded piers in T1 and also connect T1 with T3 like they were supposed to. Idk why they are so slow and lazy about an expansion like it's badly needed because YYZ is legit at capacity and it seems like GTAA doesn't care.

In the last 24
months

Shannon
Buenos Aires
Omaha
Providence
Nanaimo
Kamloops
Palm springs
Mumbai
Porto
Bucharest
Berlin

Are you sure you know your facts? Air Canada has covered nearly all the major global cities and relevant USA geography. This has nothing to do with congestion but more about the map of what’s left out there that’s not covered (and viable)

Is this the first TATL 7M8 route to France?

Yes first and only right now.

Realistically they could possibly use 7M8s to try to launch YUL - NTE, TLS, LIL, BSL, SXB or YOW/YQB-CDG. Though LIL/BSL could possibly be too close to BRU/ZRH.
