AI announces start dates for BOM-FRA/JFK, BLR-LHR/BKK, CCU-JAI/BKK

Wed Oct 03, 2018 8:38 pm

CCU-JAI/BKK commence on 15 October
BLR-LHR/BKK, BOM-FRA commence on 16 October
BOM-JFK commences on 28 October

Interesting route adds IMO. BOM-FRA is a smart move, but I am curious as to how routes like BOM-JFK and BLR-LHR will perform.

I suppose BLR is to help bolster AI's LHR scissor hub between India and EWR. Wouldn't be surprised if they make EWR daily soon.

Well my views on the long hauls announced :

BOM FRA was good choice given the connections at FRA which is a star alliance hub.

BOM JFK : I hope this time it works out because unlike EWR, JFK will primarily depend on the premium business traffic. With AI's business product, I'm a bit skeptical whether this will attract corporates . Originally announced 3 weekly but The Hindu reports it to be a six day service. Please can anyone confirm this?

BLR LHR : The route has PDEW 297 and thus is clearly underserved with only one flight daily (BA). However AI will require good amount of connections at LHR end to make it work well because I doubt how much local feed AI can get at BLR. I hope they code share with UA this time .
The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today

^^ The BLR-LHR PDEW of 297 is of Q2 2018 and increased by 14.61% YoY (Q2). Now it depends on how the connections are from LHR. Good luck AI :)

Timings works well for connections to east coast US and upon arrival in Bangalore.

All surprises me how stupid A-clock timings of international flights are acceptable in India and other places in Asia.

Managed to avoid them muscly when I lived there
