Thomas Cook paint "gaffe"

Fri Oct 05, 2018 3:14 am

Hot on the heels of 'Cathay Paciic' a few weeks ago, it seems that whoever was in charge of designing the special Thomas Cook livery "I (heart) Cook's Club" didn't take into account that airplane doors tend to open from time to time.

There was some speculation that Cathay's mistake was a publicity stunt, but there's no way the marketing team at Thomas Cook would get the green light to pull this off:

You sure about that?...…..I wonder how many people are talking about it. There's an argument to say this is great PR.

The thing is about this one, it’s it’s brilliant if it was deliberate stab for viral marketing, or it total lack of forethought by the marketing department...but also keeping in mind that Thomas Cook are are holiday airline why would they ever expect L2 to be opening, I’d wager the door was opened specifically to capture this image
Must think up a new one soon, slow moving brain trying to get into gear ;)

Yes this is an old one, it happened quite a while ago as Stewie 787 notes.

Sometimes the holiday carriers to use L2 to deplane the A321 (and other types like the 752, 753), as pax can feed from/to both directions and speed up the boarding process. However the door is specifically positioned to capture the, how do I say this... maximum cock affect. If it were fully open, you'd hardly see the 'c' at all.

Any PR is good PR as they say. It has certainly got everyone talking about it especially in non Av circles.

It might be some sort of stunt? I wonder why L2 would be open without a stairs/ramp/scaffold adjacent? The L2 on TCX A321s arent used for boarding, there and seats and overhead bins in the way.

Sometimes doors are opened for mtc. checks on that door, not saying it was the case here but doors get opened for a multitude of reasons other than boarding and deplaning. For example, on some of the airbuses (and Boeing equipment) at the airline I work for the door has to be opened for galley trash removal (regardless if catering approaches the aircraft or not).

This will work well in the porn industry. You bet someone there is already thinking up a movie with this in it.

Don't know if it's old news but the Independent also has a story today:

https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/thomas-cook-plane-i-heart-cock-spelling-cooks-club-aircraft-a8570061.html

Could be just very cleverly targeted PR:

Cook’s Club is the tour operator’s latest offering to tempt millennial holidaymakers back to the package holiday.
Do not compensate for the lack of skills with a surplus of opinion.

This is what happens when you let The Grand Tour boys into your marketing department
Look at sweatpants guy. This is a 90 million dollar aircraft, not a Tallahassee strip club

Definitely not from 2017. Aircraft was only painted at the end of April this year and spent half of the summer flying for Thomas Cook Scandinavia
