BA goes daily in Nashville in S19

Tue Oct 09, 2018 1:54 pm

• Nashville is the fastest new route to move to a daily service in 10 years
• Additional two weekly services added on flight from London
British Airways is set to increase its flights to Nashville next summer, operating a daily flight between Tennessee and Heathrow. The addition of two extra weekly services means Nashville is British Airways fastest new route to move to a daily service in 10 years.
The daily service will be operated by the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, the state of the art aircraft designed to enhance customer wellbeing. The aircraft accommodates 214 customers across three cabins, with 154 seats in World Traveller (economy), 25 seats in World Traveller Plus (premium economy) and 35 seats in Club World (business). All customers will be able to enjoy free meals and drinks, individual widescreen TV screens with complimentary on-demand entertainment, and a free checked bag.

Great news for BNA and BA, as well as the B787 and its continued success in opening new routes.

Indeed. Daily 788 is probably all BNA can reasonably expect unless/until BA get the 787 engine issues sorted out.

Congrats to my friends in BNA. Well deserved!
Nice to see BA step up and expand service. The route has been a huge success from day 1.

Will it be daily year round? It's currently showing daily through Sept 28, the end of the booking window.

That's great news for BNA! I know that Delta is also going daily on PDX-LHR starting in May 2019, so I wonder if more slots are being allocated out to the airlines...

British Airways being the predominant airline at LHR has a very large slot portfolio to easily accommodate these extra flights, Delta on the other hand can easily rely on fellow Sky Team members Air France/KLM for any new slots although the airline does have it's own to use.

The only real opportunity for airlines to obtain what are very rare slots at LHR are during the evening when the airport is less busy but this doesn't apply to Transatlantic flights as they tend to depart at earlier times

Interesting that BNA will surpass MSY and have more frequency. However, MSY is operated with the 789, but not sure if 5x789 offers more capacity than 7x788.

How cynical ... the 787-8 is „an aircraft designed to enhance passenger wellbeing“ ... lol

I think it’s only on certain routes before a full roll out. Like Most things at BA, a long drawn out phased launch.

I live in Nashville and am not surprised--there has been lots of buzz about finally getting nonstop Europe service, and I think it does quite well with leisure passengers. There are always long lines at the check-in queue and lots of British accents to be heard in the Admirals Club in the late afternoon!

It is most unfortunately that discounted Economy tickets on B.A. don't earn full miles or EQMs for AAdvantage members. Not only have I not taken the nonstop, no one in my office has either because folks aren't willing to give up all those miles and points. While it would be more convenient to take a nonstop, it's also not that much of an imposition to hop to CLT or ORD and take an AA flight from there.

Sorry, I take the n/s. There's too many variables at play trying to connect.

FR24 shows me MSY-LHR has been operated by the 788 past several days.

The BA 788 and 789 basically have the same capacity, with the 789 being more premium. The 788 has 214 seats total, while the 789 has 216 seats total. So yes, 7x788 is more capacity than 5x789. What it does say about these routes is that MSY is probably more premium, given the choice of aircraft.

From seatguru

788 J35
789 F8 J42

BNA will have 245 weekly J seats
MSY will have 250 weekly F/J seats (F40, J210)

So yes, seems MSY is a more premium market, that is if all the flights are operated with the 789.

Since when is MSY operated with a 789? I don't recall that aircraft being permanently assigned to MSY-LHR ever.

Did I miss something?

Checking the schedule, since September 10 it has indeed been flown with the 788. Only once has there been a 789 on the route during this period. I thought that MSY was flown with the 789, but looks like it is the 788. In that case, looks like BA should have started BNA before MSY!

I did tell Network Planning several years ago they should start Nashville! They eventually listened. Unfortunately they ignored me with IND, Delta beat them to it. Hopefully STL will be next online, it makes a lot of sense.

No, you haven't! When the 787-9 goes to MSY it's a 4-class aircraft but sold as 3-class, so the 8 First seats are just sold as Club with a Club service. It happens from time to time for operational reasons to places like YYC, BWI, HYD, MAA and at LGW if a 4-class 777 replaces the usual 3 class to TPA, MCO, ANU etc. MSY is still being sold as a 3-class service, same as BNA.

Sad state of affairs when a legacy carrier has to advertise the fact of free meals, drinks, checked bag and your own tv.

Flew DY OAK-LGW last week and it’s so wierd being in the minority of those who (can afford to) eat on a 10 hour flight.

How can that be the case when AUS did so less than three months after it was launched?

AUS was announced as going daily in the initial BA release. They said they would start with 5X weekly and go daily later that year. Maybe they are making the “fastest” ramp up claim regarding BNA because BNA was only announced as 5X weekly with no definite timeline or plan of ever increasing frequency?

Using AUS & SJC as examples doesn’t work since both were planned as daily. BA is claiming BNA is the fastest market to go from non daily to daily.

Perhaps BA can explain it. After all, the information came from the airline. It's not a propaganda effort by the CoC or MNAA.
