AA263 diversion

Thu Oct 11, 2018 11:02 pm

Couldn't find an appropriate thread to discuss this in. Was curious if anyone had information on todays AA 263 DFW-PEK (N814AA) that initially diverted to YEG and later YYC. Stayed on runway with various airport vehicles according to Flight Radar. Thanks

Medical diversion/sick passenger AND technical issues. Not everyday that both of these issues occur on the same flight at the same time. Although about a week ago, DL69 PDX-NRT encountered the same problem...

Also, AA9647 will fly DFW-YYC to pick up the stranded passengers in Calgary: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAL ... /KDFW/CYYC
...and apparently they will be flown back to Dallas as AA9240: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAL ... /CYYC/KDFW

I don't know why AA isn't going to just continue the passengers onward to Beijing, though...

Thanks for the news article link. Yes a bit odd about not continuing on, perhaps it's related to staff fatigue

Possibly issues with taking ticketed passangers from Canada to China?
Thats really just a guess though.

Given that it’s the shoulder season, it may be that they could accommodate most or all of everyone who wanted to travel to China on a scheduled section of 263.

Have a friend in YYC at the moment and they said there are still several fire trucks around the 787. Hopefully as a precautionary measure

It just landed a short time ago. No surprise the trucks are still there. Please don't sensationalize it. The fire trucks are probably there to handle the medical emergency.

One of the best sources for inflight diversions/emergencies is Tom Podolec on twitter. His thread is at the link below. It includes numerous updates as the emergency progressed, as well as ATC recordings, and images that pax and others have taken of the emergency. https://twitter.com/TomPodolec/status/1 ... 2139118592

Landed without flaps, diverted to YEG for ill passenger. Developed tech issue so diverted to YYC. Dumped fuel before no flaps, landing safely. Local news showed the AAL 787-8 landing with clean wings. Passengers are being put up for the night, replacement bird to land YYC tomorrow to continue flight. Ill passenger transported to local hospital.

There was no sensationalism in my statement. There were 3-4 (also known as several) firetrucks around the airplane. Given that the plane landed with a suspected technical issues this was relevant.
Yes, people sensationalize on airliners at times but at end of day don't bother reading the posts then. There are a growing number of posters on this website that are quick to point out flaws of others yet add nothing to the actual discussion.

Yeah... that's not sensationalizing at all. The fire trucks were there cause he was at 200 knots on short final.

I’ve never had fire trucks meet me for a medical divert. He wasn’t sensationalizing anything.

No flaps, gear doors hanging open, no slats. Fire trucks meet the plane and it's "sensationalizing". <3 the internet.
