Garuda Indonesia in cooperation with state owned shipping firm PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia plans to develop its cargo operations further, with two converted ATRs and one B777 freighter.
Carrier seeks to serve growing e-commerce business within the Indonesia archipelago along with offering international clients sea-air freight link with initial route to HKG.
Its expected the operation could launch as soon as the new year.
Interesting, quite a few local freighter outfits already operating cargo ops, good to see GA getting into new feilds. Athough not quite so how well it will pan out considering SIN and KUL are within an hour and a half flying time ex CGK with Fedex, SIA cargo hubs
In the print version of the Jakarta Post, there was no mention of a 777 but rather of a 738, which would be sourced from its fleet of passenger aircraft. The aircraft would, among other things, be used for a daily roundtrip between Makassar (UPG), where cargo would be pooled, to Hongkong.
