Hawaiian Air charter with DL Flight Number

Sat Oct 27, 2018 12:31 am

So I was tracking the Seahawks charter to Detroit and it has a HA callsign but a DL flight number. It’s very strange.

https://fr24.com/HAL760IN/1e5ad3e

Any reason for it?

I'm seeing it as HAL 760 on Flightaware. Perhaps you saw a bug in FR24.

Looks like Delta needed to borrow a plane and crew. I know Delta does HALs maintenance in Seattle.

Airlines can’t just borrow planes. They could wet lease the plane with HA crew.

Here's what ikolkyo might be referring to;

Looks like a glitch.

They cant even let Airbus/Boeing/BBD/EMB etc pilots fly delivery flights

I read in another post that DL crews have operated HA aircraft related to maintenance. Delta’s unions would never allow it if it was reversed but Hawaiian’s may?

His answer appears correct, you’re getting technical. HA’s website confirms that HA760 did indeed operate SEA-DTW this evening. Given that the Seahawks are a DL client, and multiple sources are including a DL flight number associated with the flight, it’s probable that DL contracted HA to operate this service on its behalf.

HAL has mx on their A330 in MSP. This is a football charter for the Seahawks playing in Detroit.
Remind me to send a thank you note to Mr. Boeing.

I was under the impression that the Seahawks switched to Hawaiian this season, no?

I don’t think that’s correct, for their game at Chicago they definitely flew HA. https://twitter.com/805pineapple/status ... 34881?s=21

Edit: Here is the flight on FlightAware, definitely with HA this season

Due to aircraft availability, the Seahawks arn’t flying on DL but maybe DL is using HA to fly them this season

HA is tasked with flying the Seahawks this year due to widebody availability. The Hawks didn't want to fly on the 757s, so short term solution was using HA and having a soon to be retired 767 be set up for them.
This is water cooler talk, so I don't know the validity of it.

This is a charter for the Seahawks which HAL is flying as well as the Raiders. Good to see them back to HAL, btw. It is not a mx flight, it’s not a DL flight and DL pilots do not, have not and will not operate HAL a/c.

I think the 767 part is inaccurate since they have been flying A332s all year so far.

No, they will be back on Delta next season using a 767 or two that are being retired by Delta soon.

No. The Patriots bought their own aircraft(and quickly retired one of them). I presume he means DL is going to keep a "reserve" of otherwise retired 767(s) for charters.

Exactly. They're essentially doing the same thing they did with the 757s that are now used for NBA charters in a 74 seat layout. Don't know how the 767s will be configured, but they'll be extremely low utilization, so they will be able to be used for a while.

So you're saying, the airplanes will be sold to a leasing company, then leased to a trust controlled by the NBA, and operated by Delta under a CMI contract?

It probably wouldn't be a trust controlled by the NBA (more than likely, the NFL, if that were the case), but that does seem to make sense.

FWIW, more than a few DL NFL charter flights have seen a downgauge for an A321 from 767s and A330s this season.

I'm not 100% sure if they're going to do it the same way, since the almost every team in the NBA uses the DL operated charter fleet while the NFL teams all use someone different, even though DL has contracts with at least half the league.

It appears that the Seahawks are very unhappy with HA and have a long term deal with DL in place, so this is the only season HA will be flying them.

And again... FR24 has glitches. The other tracking websites show the flight clearly as HAL763. Not exactly sure why this keeps happening, but like the other flight, this was a Seahawks charter and had nothing to do with Delta.

I was under the impression that the HA agreement was a one-year "one off" due to availability (or lack thereof) of its widebody fleet (which probably explains why some NFL teams, like Tampa Bay, have been using 321s this season).
