According to a spanish media, LEVEL will launch nonstop services to New York (JFK) and Santiago de Chile in S19.

Will they move ORY from EWR to JFK to keep it all in one airport?

The flight from BCN to SCL will be a non-stop flight? great failure of LATAM Chile I thought that they were going to throw it first

If Level launches BCN-JFK, I wonder if AA will pull out? The American flight is an existing code-share with IB, and has operated for a number of years (before it was changed from a 767-300ER to a 777 flight, there were times when AA had 2 daily JFK-BCN flights). Guessing that this is more of a leisure route, than a premium heavy one, with a lot of the front cabin consisting of FF redemptions.

It is not a failure. Yields are probably too low, so LATAM Chile would just rather concentrate on the gold pit that is the duopoly MAD-SCL with 17 weekly flights on IB/LA. And IB and LATAM will leave BCN for their low-cost carrier. The JV between LATAM and IAG was approved by Chilean courts last week.

I am sure BCN-SCL will do well because MAD-SCL prices tend to be atrocious and there are very few one-stop options outside IAG/LATAM. Basically the only one-stop feasible connection is Spain-CDG-SCL (KLM flies via EZE; so that would be a 2-stop flight).

They will only if it makes sense financially. Level France ( EC, former openskies ) is still a wholly owned BA subsidiary. If having an owned terminal at JFK and almost in house handling wasn’t good back then, I doubt IB adding another JFK flight m, but to BCN and painted in blue and green would change a thing.

Probably the AA route would be cancelled. I doubt the route purely on OD can sustain that many Y seats. AA has begun treating JFK as a non connecting hub (using PHL for that purpose) and feed from level is not better than own-metal.

IB 4000/4001 will be changed for “own-metal” IB26xx and technically will still be covered by the IBBAAA Joint Business across the Atlantic

Well, don’t forget SCL-MAD is per se a quite looong flight. And the economics of the route are greatly improve thanks to the tag-on to FRA due to cargo. BCN is even longer. That would take an 787 out of base for nearly 30 hours. And if it’s not daily, the crew would rest in BCN more than just one day. Maybe it’s just easier to let a brand new JV partner take the route with a nonJ aircraft and see how it develops.

My bad, Santiago airport gave me the information wrong. It is effectively twice weekly until July 29th, when it will increase to four weekly flights.

Congratulations to SCL!

SCL-BNC is exactly the same distance (less 2 statute miles) than EZE-FCO: 6,917 miles v. 6,919. Perfectly doable with LEVEL's 242T A332s.

Per LEVEL, a correction: the route begins as 2x w in March 2019 and goes to 4x w in July 2019.

American Airlines will continue with their Barcelona flight, I doubt LEVEL is going to replace AA. There should be enough demand to fill a LEVEL flight (mostly tourists) 3 times a week between BCN and JFK.

Schedule has been released:

Barcelona – New York JFK eff 27JUL19 3 weekly
IB2627 BCN1555 – 1845JFK 332 146
IB2628 JFK2045 – 1030+1BCN 332 6
IB2628 JFK2045 – 1030+1BCN 332 14

Barcelona – Santiago de Chile eff 31MAR19 2 weekly (Day 47), 4 weekly from 30JUL19, Subject to Government Approval
IB2605 BCN1115 – 2040SCL 332 x136
IB2606 SCL2225 – 1700+1BCN 332 x136

Great news, SCL needs a flight to Barcelona.

Dont forget British Airways LHR-SCL and Alitalia's 5 weekly FCO-SCL... in fact, they italian carrier usually offers the cheapest fares between SCL and BCN so I think they will be affected by this new flight.

BA's LHR-SCL is part of the TATL JV. So it is not real competition. The same for connections via GRU (e.g. BCN-GRU-SCL on LATAM).

I had forgotten about Alitalia, you are right.

Not sure Avianca via BOG or Aerolíneas via EZE sell competitive fares to connect Europe-SCL.
