Air Canada 319 getting repainted!

Mon Nov 12, 2018 2:28 am

Looks like C-GARG (FIN 271) has gone to KROW (AC2329) for a badly needed repaint. It’s the first 319 to get done and boy was it ever weathered looking when it went! (Source track it if you wish or trust me for the source police ;) )
Flown: C172-M/N/P/R/S , P2006T, PA-34-200T, DH8A/C Been on: B1900D, DH8A/C ERJ-145, CRJ-100/200, DH8D, CRJ-700/705/900, E-175/190, A319/320/321, 737-200/300/400/600/700/800/900ER/M8, MD-82/83, 757-200/300, 767-300, A330-300, 787-9, 777-300ER, F28-4000.

Not sure how recent this picture was, but from this it sure looks like it needs some paint... ;)

Not what a national carrier should be portraying. Should have been painted a longtime ago.

Are we sure its getting repainted into the new livery, or will it be added to Rouge?

No more A319s are going to Rouge before the end of 2019, according to the 2018 Q3 results.

I flew C-GARG years back. And did not even realise it was an A319 until now.

Not to mention that ROW doesn’t do Rouge conversions, only paint. No it’s for sure a repaint I also have internal confirmation.

Yes, Jimbo - national carrier. Please stick to the topic rather than try to start another within this thread. You are free to start a new thread to discuss whether AC and WS are national carriers or not.

Back to the topic - The aircraft was in dire need of a repaint. I have flown it many many times between Vancouver and Calgary.

They were waiting to see whether they'd be keeping the A319s a little longer. It is confirmed that they will be staying in the Air Canada fleet a little longer than previously expected. They are now being sent for updating from the silversky colours to the new red, white, and black colours.

According to planespotters.net the frame is 21 years old. Going from A.net the last photo of it with the white fuselage (old titles) and new tail was from June 28th, 2006, the next time it showed up on A.net with the full new livery was September 2006. So it was painted somewhere in that time frame so presumably the current paint is 12 to 12.3 years old. No idea if its been touched up or not since then though so that might not be accurate.

I believe there will be a couple others that receive the new paint, they are reaching the limit of the current paint, and it needs to be re-done to ensure corrosion protection.

Well now watch it come out in Star Alliance colors or something just to annoy us and keep an AC A319 from ever being painted in the raccoon scheme :rotfl:

AC doesn't usually let their paint decay to these levels, I suspect it was because of the indecision regarding the 319's future with AC mainline. There would have been little point in a repaint to the new livery if they were leaving in a few months.

There was a bad batch of red paint from a couple of the paint shops. There’s a 767 that was pretty bad as well that was painted down in VCV. I think that frame is at Rouge now. The blue handled the fade ok. But not the red. Not a good look tho for sure.

Hope not, AC’s rendition of the * A is awfully boring compared to other member carriers who leave some of their livery on them.

None of the 321 masks painted in ROW match either. None are as poor a job as Jazz’s 327 which was horribly done (it looks like a melting candle dripping).

Well, I hope you haven't been looking at any AF/BA/QF flights of late then ;)

It does seem a little overblown to worry about what they're portraying with a livery, especially since this little A319 doesn't end up going too far afield (LAX and EWR are it's most exotic locales by the looks of it). AC had some big decisions to make regarding the possible A220 delivery delays, these A319s, and the much-maligned E190 fleet.

I'm less concerned with whether the 'Air Canada' is visible and more concerned about the A330s lumbering around the world with outdated interiors that people spend 8+ hours sitting in, not 3 seconds looking at.

The old interiors are getting redone later in 2019 once the additional 330s arrive. The old interior is actually not that unpopular because it has fatter seats and more pitch than the replacement interiors that the Boeings use. The downside is the old Thales TVs that don't work all that well (not unlike the their FMGCs). Most prefer the A330s because of the layout across vs the 777.

I know the interiors are being redone, yes, but there are some common misconceptions here: AC's current A333s have no more pitch than AC's 777s or 787s - in fact, one could argue they offer less space given the thickness of the seats. It's all 31 inches, which is pretty much what AC is settling on across the board.

Not quite, here’s the problem with the 777, 787. While yes you’re right they’re planned for 31, there’s some rows where that is not the cases. Much like the 321s, most rows have the 31 while some don’t. As for the seat thickness, they aren’t that much thicker than the new ones but the just enough to make a longish haul flight more bearable.

I recently took the 77W YVR-YYZ, I was far more uncomfortable with those new narrower seats than the ones on the 320 I came back on. If you look closely the new seats aren’t unlike the Rouge 767 seat, same upholstery with some added patterns and a different back on it to encase the PTV. The 777 didn’t have any useful floor storage especially the window which had the mounting bracket pretty much running down the middle underneath the window seat. Makes trying to put anything under there difficult and then no room to stretch your legs.

While I agree they need new interiors and are getting them, I don’t think the new ones do anything for comfort, especially for long haul.

Well now watch it come out in Star Alliance colors or something just to annoy us and keep an AC A319 from ever being painted in the raccoon scheme :rotfl:

Anecdotally, a couple Star Alliance scheme planes have left and not been replaced. I'm beginning to wonder if AC does not intend to do any more planes in the Star scheme.

Well the 763 went to rouge and was replaced with a 321 and then they have the 2 320s and 1 330 so actually it’s the same. I think a Max or 220 will get done as *A eventually.

It’s funny I hate the 319s as a commuting pilot because they’re always on the route I take and their capacity is never enough vs the 320/321 but I love them once I’m on them vs the 320/321 because of how easy it is to board/offload with the fewer passengers.
