Via Air - All flights cancelled 11/13

Tue Nov 13, 2018 8:26 pm

Anyone know what's going on with Via? I had read last week that they were kicked out of CLT due to non-payment of airport fees (http://www.newsandsentinel.com/news/loc ... f-flights/ ), then they announced this week that they were pulling out of PKB/BKW/CLT almost a month before their contract ends due to broken aircraft ( http://www.newsandsentinel.com/news/loc ... airport-2/ ), and today I heard from a friend there that they received notice that their SOC was shut down. All flights today across the system appear to be cancelled.

Are they done for good?

Website is still selling tickets. I'd think they would unplug that first.

The website has wiped clean on the route map all CLT services and closed sales to PKB,BKW and SFB from CLT.. the remainder of system seems OK(for now). The CLT service were operated by the EMB 120's which are both down for maintenance. A big middle finger to W. VA EAS markets. Pen Air did this to Manie stations.

CLT & West Virginia markets are no longer showing. Their AUS & SFB flights seem to still be intact....although if they no longer have an SOC

EDIT:
Guess RJNUT & I were typing at the same time...LOL

I question this SOC rumor. Still selling tickets after the airline has shutdown would be fraud. Probably just the CLT stuff shut.

Everything yesterday today and tomorrow to and from AUS using the ERJ appears to be cancelled. Ticket sales aside, what's going on this week?

I just tried to do some dummy bookings out of AUS over next couple of months and keeps saying no flights available. Maybe there is something bigger brewing than just the W.V. stuff.

SOC? System Operations Control?

Maybe they're thinking of an AOC? That's the first thing that went through my mind.

Yes, SOC is System Operations Control. Effectively their dispatch HQ.

This airline has like 15 pilots to fly their entire schedule, according to a poster on AirlinePilotForums. That is insane.
People are saying. Believe me.

Sad to see them fall but not surprising after daily interactions with them at CLT. One of their aircraft, N650CT literally sat on our ramp for 2 weeks or more, and got moved around multiple times before being parked in the empty ramp space behind the A concourse.

I don’t know the inner workings of Via, but from what I observed they weren’t doing so hot.

The 50 seat charter market is quite cut-throat. Via did some highly questionable actions when they took over a casino contract from ADI. Elite is somehow still doing quite well, but I'm wondering how long that will last, and as we've seen from ADI, they're morphing into more scheduled service since ERJ 145s are getting cheaper.

As I've told many other airline Boards and CEOs - its bad business when you focus your revenue streams on EAS.

They’ve cancelled the last 9 OKC/AUS flights, last operation on this route was 11/4

were they even doing any charter work? I thought their SFB build-up was interesting (but wrong airport). I'd think they'd have better luck doing something like Panhandle - Lakeland - Miami/Ft Lauderdale.

SRY841 MKE-SFB took off on time and is in the air. It also flew SFB-MKE earlier in the day, so it was not a reposition.

There was a flight from Eugene to Austin (SRY825)—the only flight operating into AUS today. Can’t tell if it carried passengers, but it’s not a normally scheduled route.

Might have been an NCAA charter? U. of Utah women's volleyball is playing in Eugene this evening (and the same aircraft operated SLC-EUG yesterday).

Possibly. There are now three Via ERJ-145s on the ground at AUS, all parked on the cargo ramp.

But it's not a scheduled flight, either. The flight number is the numeric of the N number, which it uses for charters and ferries.

Austin/Baton Rouge has been cancelled consistently for a while as well.

I'll keep an eye out and see if it returns to EUG, then turns around back to SLC tonight or tomorrow. Apart from that I can't imagine what they would have been doing here.

My assumption is that if a charter was pre-scheduled and paid by a university or someone else, they would face huge consequences ($$$) if they canned it - perhaps more so than simply cancelling scheduled 121 service.

I feel bad for cities like BTR, MOB, JAN, MGM which all of a sudden thanks to Via had nonstop service to Orlando plus in BTRs case, AUS (though the BTR-AUS route I just didn’t get besides simply a means of rotating a plane between SFB and AUS).

Still, it’s the same old story, over and over again. It’s a ruthless business and if this is the end of Via’s scheduled ops, who would truly be surprised by that?

It wasn't a ferry as it was roundtrip. Might be a charter, but that alone means the airline is operating.

AUS-AMA operated this morning at 715, and the AUS FIDS shows the return, as well as the flight from Tucson, operating this afternoon (with enough of an adjustment in the times to make it look legit).

However, OKC, TUL, LIT, BTR are all canceled again.

It was a Wisconsin basketball charter.

That was for Frontier's (3rd) return to Tucson. F9 uses A1 as does/did Via Air.

They loaded new BKG-AUS flights for the spring this week, so I think they are feeling better about their operation/prospects now. They also adjusted the start dates for CAE and TLH to SFB. If CAE starts as scheduled on 12/21, I'd say they're back on track.
