Potential new routes out of YVR, YYC, & YYZ/WS & KE future JV

Wed Nov 28, 2018 8:28 am

Any new routes you guys can think of that AC or WS can or would add at either YVR, YYC, or YYZ in 2019 that are not announced yet? For example, WS adding YYC-ATL, I would also think that YVR-ATL is needed year-round as two global cities are not connected together unless seasonal on DL. There is also a need for YVR-JFK as same reason, seasonal only on DL unless people in Vancouver using SEA instead for either SEA-ATL or SEA-JFK. Also WS wants to do a JV with KE after they are done finalizing their JV with DL so does that mean a future 787 route for either YVR-ICN or YYZ-ICN? If that's the case, AC needs help from OZ to do their own JV and add additional flights cause they can't compete with that potential JV between WS and KE.

Why do you say YVR-JFK isn't connected? there is daily non-stop servce by CX on a 77W.

As a matter of fact, it's a much nicer experience to fly CX than any US or canadian carrier.

A JV with KE is still pretty far out, they are currently in the late stages of negotiations with AF/KLM, plan is to apply for formal approval once the DL deal is fully signed off.

And a daily non-stop on AC YVR-EWR on a 787.
Just because I stopped arguing, doesn't mean I think you are right. It just means I gave up!

You expect Korean to fold like a cheap suit on Vancouver/Toronto-Seoul?

EWR isn't convenient for those wanting to go to the NYC boroughs, more of an airport for those in Newark and rest of NJ. I know AC doesn't fly to JFK but what's to not stop WS to do a YVR-JFK to their DL partner hub too if YYC-JFK is successful?

Also the CX flight from YVR-JFK doesn't go through US preclearance and it's double the price from a flight w AA or DL, those are disadvantages.

Lots of people use EWR to travel to or from Manhattan. It's my brother's preferred airport to fly to NYC. He lived in Manhattan for several years including his student years at Columbia University.

It's double the price because lack of competition.

At the same price I'd fly CX ahead of AA/DL hands down and regardless of preclearance.

I’ll take a train from EWR to Manhattan over a taxi or transit from LGA to Manhatten any day. I’ve never flown into JFK so can’t comment on that trip.

I highly doubt that YYZ-ICN can support 3x daily flights, especially since AC will be deploying their CASM-monster 400-seater 77W on the route next summer.

Maybe YVR-ICN can support 3x daily on a summer seasonal basis, although if it warranted extra capacity, I'm sure either of the two carriers would probably upgauge it first. 3x daily YVR-ICN has been done before (I want to say around 2006-2007-ish) with 10x weekly AC 763, 3x weekly SQ 772 and 7x weekly KE 772, so it's not unprecedented.

WS has limited capability to do much own metal flying at any reasonable frequency considering they only have firm orders for 10. I think if they were to go down the route of a JV, KE would upguage to increase capacity as required, rather than have WS enter the market.
