Atlas 747 at HNL
Anyone know anything about the Atlas 747 sitting at the end of the Reef Runway at HNL? I can see the Reef Runway from the lunch room at work - I saw it at 830am today - and I just went back in and it's still sitting in the same position. It's at the end closest to downtown Honolulu - between the end of runway 8/26 and taxiway RA (is that what's it's called). Unusual location ..

Not sure about the Atlas but the Antonov was chartered by FEMA to bring supplies to Saipan post hurricane. Perhaps Atlas got some of that contract.

Could be .. but it's an unusual location to park it .. surely there's space someplace else at the airport instead of leaving it at the end of the taxiway ..

It's likely contracted by Fedex for the holiday rush and flights to MEM.

Doesn't Atlas provide a sub-service for Qantas that goes thru HNL?

It’s a RON from Sunday to Monday operating for FX - we actually have 2 RONs; the other plane is on the north ramp. Last night Atlas had a total of 4 planes on the ground at the same time in addition to UPS, Kalitta and FedEx so it was traffic jams all night.
The intersection of taxiway HR next to the reef is not often used - in fact the first time I saw it was last week when there was no parking and they had the FEMA Antonov there. Those flights add to the headache because there are so many and they all have long layovers here.

Saw the Antonov at Sky Harbor (PHX) last week. That bird took off slow and shallow. Amazing site to see.
