Also worth noting that casinos are illegal in Israel. I know (from friends) that a lot of Israelis seek out casinos when on holiday. I can imagine this selling well as part of holiday packages etc.

As someone else has pointed out, I'm interested to know how LY's on-ground security will work for this. Will they just hire some local Israelis who are working in the area already to do the one shift per week or fly people out on the flight itself?

While gambling and strippers are fun, people also go to Vegas to go to the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Area 51 conspiracy nuts, NW Arizona, etc... Plus (my personal favorite) any celebrity chef thats a celebrity chef has a restaurant on the Strip, so it's also known for fine dining.

Area 51? Surely people don't go there to stand at a fence?

Las Vegas is considered "worse" because of the 166 casinos inside county limits, the open container laws that allow for public drinking and intoxication, legal prostitution just outside of county limits, access to drugs, legalization of marijuana, little-to-no "last call" bars, etc. The list can literally go on forever. Las Vegas is like it's own little world.

I hope you don't believe what you just wrote. You would have to be the world's biggest idiot if you believe that Vegas is the only place in the US that has easily accessible drugs. There at least 50 cities in the lower 48 alone, that within an hour of arriving, I could get my hands on an 8 ball of coke. There are 6 different countries in Europe that I can do the same.
Last time I was in Amsterdam, I could window shop for hookers. Not to mention that the majority of states have legalized medical marijuana while 10-15 states have legalized recreational marijuana. Yes, Las Vegas is it's own world. However, my short time in Bahrain, I could do the same damn things there that I can in just about any major city in the US, sans casinos......

I wish this forum had upvotes. But yes, "upvotes for truth" applies here.

If LY was entirely based on "religious morals" then it wouldn't even fly to New York City (given how much sodomy, drug addiction, alcoholism and illegal gambling occurs there).

Las Vegas isn't much worse than NYC or LA or San Fran. Its just more honest.

Las Vegas looks like a day care centre for innocent grandmothers compared to Berlin or Amsterdam ... and Berlin is packed with Israeli refugees returning home to Europe

But will the crew be fit to fly? They will probably wake up early morning, which leaves them 18 hours of waiting before starting a very long workday. That sounds far from ideal to me.

There is no fence that you can get to as a tourist, by the time you get to a fence you are face down in the dirt, Google Rachel NV, that should give you plenty of info.

Nice pick up on the subsidy, at least it will help cover the fuel for a flight or two, it will be interesting to see if this works, I do remember way back when a lot of people on here didn't think the LGW-LAS flight would work, they were proved "slightly" wrong on that, though of course this is a totally different market.

This will make life easier for the wife when she wants to visit family, I do wonder as mentioned before how security will work and if with the added costs there is anyway for the route to make money.

If that’s far from ideal I’d recommend you stay away from being long haul aircrew. In my experience 36 hours is the best crewrest time; as soon as you get to the hotel go to sleep for 10 hours, then you get a full day and another sleep cycle waking up well rested for the long flight home. Obviously they’re going to be messed up time zone wise, but that’s the nature of long haul flying. Any hotel theyll stay at will have blackout curtains so the crew can make it nighttime whenever they want.

So they sleep from 13.00 h local time to 23.00 h local time, then get a full 'day' during the night, then go to bed again and then start the workday? Wouldn't 24 hours or 48 hours be a much better crewrest time?

I am not longhaul aircrew and I don't have aspirations to become longhaul aircrew. My only experience consist of having travelled aboard approximately thirty longhaul flights. I usually try to adapt to the local time.

I can imagine longhaul aircrew don't want to adapt, but keep using 'home time'. But still it doesn't sound ideal to sleep during the day and be awake during the night. At least it isn't handy for local sightseeing.
