BBD ready to deliver Global 7500 to 1st Customer

Wed Dec 12, 2018 7:27 pm

At long last, Bombardier is set for first delivery of its Global 7500 bizjet.

https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/bombardier- ... -1.1181588

The planemaker is planning an event near Montreal on Dec. 20 to mark the entry into service of its newest aircraft, according to a statement Tuesday. The Global 7500, which can fly nonstop from San Francisco to Singapore, has a list price of about US$73 million. The company didn’t identify the customer.

It has been a, (mostly self inflicted), rough ride for BBD for too long. Finally...some good news from the company.
What the...?

Indeed a two year delay versus what was announced at the 2010 program launch.

But hey, its range increased from 13,700 to 14,300 km. Also the already impressive takeoff and landing performance was further improved.

(As a bonus, they concurrently found a way to improve range & fuel efficiency of both the Global 5000 and 6000, via new RR Pearl engines + aerodynamics/wing improvements - calling those Global 5500 & 6500)

Actually, it's pretty amazing when considering the near death financial crunch (mostly self inflicted, I agree) they went thru.

It’s late, true; but it’s a fantastic plane technically. Much like the C-Series, despite the financial turmoil, the politics, the noise, the designers and builders delivered and then some. I’ve seen a DXB-LAX flight plan, transpolar. Not in the brochure, in the FMS.

Anyone want to compare it against a Gulfstream. It's a newer design, so it needs to be better.

All in all...they have a pretty good portfolio of what will probably be very profitable aircraft. It was touch and go for a while with the 2 year delay and the Lear 85 mess digging a big hole to climb out of.

ExMilitaryEng noted the Global 5500/6500's. Pulling that duo out of their hats when nobody was looking was quite a feat. The RR Pearl and the other significant improvements on those aircraft, seem to have come out of nowhere to good effect.

They are pretty much out of the commercial aircraft business and their train division is having fits, but it looks like BBD can still play with the big boys in the bizjet arena.

IIRC Netjets had a massive order for Globals few years ago did they cancel after the delay or the order is still in place? Thanks

Still in place, I believe. They’ve been operating them for 5 years.

Much larger cabin than the G650, slightly more range (250-ish nm) and new engines.

A two year wait? That is a certain way to receive a debugged product. I'm curious as to the long delay. Is there something I do not know (long production ramp?)

Is there a link available that works in the EU? It's this GDPR firewall type message showing again. :banghead:
Many thanks.

It was the best selling plane offered for awhile—the back log is pretty big. Debugged, indeed.

According to this Article on the first delivery it was a major wing redesign that caused the delay.

I'm referring to it being the end of 2018 and Netjets waiting 2+ years for first delivery. If anything, their first delivery should be next year. Why 2021?

Bombardier Global 7500 Sets Bizjet Range (and speed?) Record

"The aircraft logged 8,152 nm after taking off from Singapore at 7:12 a.m. local time on March 4 and landing in Tucson, Arizona, at 8:19 a.m.—setting a speed record for this sector in the process.

The aircraft landed with 4,300 pounds of fuel, falling well within NBAA requirements with nearly 90 additional minutes of flight time possible."

So how long before Gulfstream attempts to match/beat this record?

Gulfstream forced a change. The G500/G600 required a mid range response. How did Bombardier and Dassault allow the G650 to be top tarmac bling for so long?

Gulfstream must respond. They have learned to develop in secret until roll out (sometimes after start if flight testing) to preserve sales. GE has an engine. Pratt is offering an engine. I thought the first pearl would be for the G650 (it might have been still....).

So when does Dassault respond? The Silvercrest issues created a huge lost opportunity on the 5x. Huh... Pw812 was developed for Gulfstream.... Hmm....

These are mostly bragging rights, the average leg is still around 2 hours. There are plenty of Global/Gulfstreams that spend most of their lives on AR15 between NYC and PBI.

Here it is:

"The aircraft (C-FXAI) - the initial production example - departed Singapore at 07:12 local on 4 March carrying three pilots, three passengers and luggage with a combined weight of 360kg (800lb). Taking a transpacific route, it arrived in Tucson, Arizona just over 16h later at 08:19 local, which also set a new speed record for this city-pair, says Bombardier. It had 1,950kg of fuel remaining – representing 90min"

Previous (G650ER) record:

"The previous record for the longest, official non-stop flight by a business jets was achieved by the Gulfstream G650ER in 2015. That aircraft flew 8,010nm from Singapore to Las Vegas with four passengers and crew."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So the Global 7500 went further, and with two more passengers/crew than the G650ER. Appears pretty impressive to me!
