Airline denies boarding to a fish

Mon Dec 17, 2018 7:44 pm

Cue the outrage! Geesh, if she'd just put the fish into a Starbucks cup and left the lid in place, no problemo.

USA TODAY: Student: Airline made me leave my pet fish behind

If she had it in 3.9 or less of liquid she would have been fine. :stirthepot:

But what about the fish's feelings?

Also, will the fish double or triple in size now that it's in the sewer?

You take all the precautions to make sure your fish is going to be safe on your flight, but you don't bother to read the condition of carriage of animals?

"Our Team offered to re-book the Customer for a later flight to allow them to make arrangements for their pet but the Customer refused that option. The Customer eventually traveled on their originally scheduled flight." I see nothing wrong with what Southwest did here.

Pretty poor planning by WN, they could have paid for a temporary lease of the FI 752 to fly from DEN to SAN and back to transport the fish the one way, and get in on the fish express flights from KEF. in this day and age of maxmizing revenue, you know Fish is king...there's enough ground time at DEN to do that.. :)

As a complete aside and in all seriousness, if I am reading a dummy FI booking correctly. FI's flight on 12/23 is going to sit at the ramp for 3 days until it leaves on 12/26 unless they fly it out and utilize it elsewhere.

This is another example of how Boeing needs to re-engine the 757. The amount of fish it can carry (even off short runways) is amazing and nether airbus or Boeing have a replacement on the market. Sad times.

Yeah, reminded me of the recent incident at MIA, wonan flushed her pet hamster down the crapper. Something tells me that the fish met the same fate...

Yep, without such an aircraft the aviation market will continue to flounder.

Utter rubbish!! The future of aviation is armadas of ARJ21s and IL-96-400s operating in and out of the 6 parallel runways at Exeter Multiuniversal Spaceport, set to be built next year by a berliner airport engineering company...

I read this a few days ago so pardon if I get the details wrong, but I think she said she'd flown with the fish previously. If she was told once it was ok, even if by another airline, she might have assumed [rightly or wrongly] that'd it be ok on this flight too. Ultimately it's not a huge deal but it was important to her. In the end, she gave up the fish to someone else so it all worked out. Not sure how it got to be a news story, though, other than that news stories like this just encourage anyone with a slight issue to call up NBC et al.

The poor fish had enough problems already having been named Cassie. Another name for the betta (with 2 "t"s) is the Siamese Fighting Fish. Xena, Warrior Fish might have been more appropriate.

Excellent point, but if she had done her homework, she'd have the relevant portion of the contract of carriage ready to show the airline employee. If I was going to fly with something unusual like that, I would make sure that I had done everything in my power not to be denied boarding.

Heartbroken?

Agents informed the Customer about Southwest’s pets policy which does not allow for live fish to travel in the passenger cabin. Our Team offered to re-book the Customer for a later flight to allow them to make arrangements for their pet but the Customer refused that option. The Customer eventually traveled on their originally scheduled flight."

The fact that she named her "pet fish" reminds me of the Monty Python sketch where the guy went to get a pet license for his fish "Eric"

Hi: What I found strange: quotte”Southwest’s pet policy is stricter, (than TSA); allowing only small dogs and crates in crates stowed under the customer’s seat. No pets can travel in Southwest cargo bins. “ UNQUOTTE.
Been compared with TSA, is a no-no
How others companies proceed?
