Nice job Aer Lingus on the re-branding. The 2 shades of green work well together. Too bad Lufthansa didn't use yellow similar to how Aer Lingus chose to use the lighter green. I look forward to seeing how the green looks on their aircraft at the airport.

The release image states, "Two contrasting shades of green." So while I agree with you that it 'looks' blue, It really isn't.

I think it looks great from a branding point of view, the deeper green and the vibrant green complement each other wonderfully and it looks great on their digital platforms and in print.

The livery will take getting used to but as far as eurowhite goes, its far from terrible and after a while I think most people will love it.

Fair point on it being teal, though the lighting at the unveiling really made it look blue.

Teal seems to be 2:1 blue:green, so still a very bluish colour.

Just saw the first A320 in the new colors land at Dublin! My A333 to Boston was damaged and we had to deboard, but that worked out for us avgeeks to see the new livery. It actually looked great live, reminded me a lot of AS' livery, as others have pointed out.

The marketing images look ok but the real life airplane looks incredibly white. I feel like they should have gone with a more flat white. This makes the new LH livery look great.
I don't like the shamrock bending backwards "to the wind".

The font is great, the 'play' and dimension added to the shamrock are great as well. The rest is pretty mundane, everyone seems to be doing the extended colour-from-the-tail-thing these days, although this is better executed than what Westjet just attempted.

Would have preferred the white part of the fuselage to be that light green color near the tail and larger titles. Or maybe that looks better in my head?

Awful. Another carrier loses any imagination or distinction and joins the masses in a white body with a contrasting tail, nacelles, and winglets. Really makes you miss the old days of full schemes, cheat lines, multi colors etc...

Kudos to Airlines like Spirit, Southwest, S7, Korean, KLM and a few others for standing out from the masses of dullards.

The teal looks much more like a dark green under 'normal' lighting conditions i.e. not under the bright spotlights of the unveiling ceremony. That definitely made it look a lot more blue.

And although the new livery has a bit of a cheap/corporate/boring look to it, overall I think a eurowhite livery suits Aer Lingus quite well. It does look a little classy and I think it's a good representation of Ireland. There's not a whole lot of green liveries out there, so these aircraft will still be instantly recognisable as Aer Lingus and Irish. The green engine cowlings and winglets certainly make a big difference (unlike Lufthansa that decided to leave them entirely white !!!)

I predicted that the green would go under IAG, and this is pretty much what I was expecting. There's nothing original, nothing dynamic, nothing exciting and nothing innovative about this "refresh", but I'm glad: the green fuselage will always be remembered as the Irish owned Aer Lingus, while this version has IAG stamped all over it. The shamrock is straight off the Paddywagon, all it's short of is a leprechaun hanging out of it, but at least it's not any of the awful alternatives shown. The font is the only attractive thing about this livery. And I'll make another prediction here, a guaranteed one: in a few years time when the entire fleet has been repainted, the sea of green at DUB will be sadly missed on this site. Of the four Aer Lingus liveries of the last 60 years, this is the second-least inspiring, coming-in just ahead of the .com disaster.

I think the fact that we're debating teal-versus-blue-versus green undermines that recognition factor. I suspect there will be a Lufthansa-type colour-tweak sometime in the next few months once the livery starts appearing in different weather conditions. Probably a shift to a much greener hue.

For those with long memories, the Windows 95 desktop was apparently teal ( #008080 ) because it worked well on monochrome monitors and was distinguishable from black. It used a mix of 50% blue and 50% green.

Aer Lingus, aka Qantas Ireland.
The green is iconic, and they messed this one up. Yeah, we’ll all adapt, but it’s terrible to think about what’s being replaced or what could have been done with more green. Just bland and it feels so generic.

This looks better than I was expecting. I do agree with some others, the white is very bright. It should still look well on grey/overcast Irish days. I still think the placement of titles is awkward, the “g” is always an issue. This could be solved by having the titles under the windows, like in the pre-1996 livery. Incidentally this livery also has a shamrock next to the titles.

There is some originality, the Shamrock on the entry doors, for example. The bright green ‘sash’ on the tail in addition to the teal/green.

Aer Lingus, Iberia, Level, Vueling and no doubt a new BA livery will complete what this is really all about. And that is being able to swop planes between IAG fleets at minimal cost.

Everything else being spouted by the Customer Innovation brand bunnies is just crap.

I thought eurgh first time i saw the teaser of it in the hangar at night but they have got the colours spot on, a wee shamrock on the engines would have been perfect but overall its a thumbs up from me! It will grow on people and it wont be long before the old green birds look ancient.

Wow what a bloody awful livery update. I’m bitterly disappointed. Aer Lingus’s current scheme is among the most iconic in the skies and only needed a tweak at most. Instead they deliver a carbon copy of so many other recent airline rebrand epic fails.

And this my friends is a symptom of the times we live in. The fun being stripped out of life to cut cost, all to make the rich (in this case directors and shareholders) richer, while customers and staff alike get less and less.

There are so many things EI could have done with their new scheme but didn’t. An evolution being one, using KLM as a template another. I’d love to add more ideas, but many of you above have done so already and IAG never listen to their customers and staff, so why bother :banghead:

And my heart bleeds to write that you know...

I’ll also say something new here now: I just don’t see the point of eurowhite: it’s not modern or trendy at all. In fact, it’s dated, having originally emerged in the 70s with AF and hit its zenith in the 90s. One for discussion on its own thread I feel...

Finally a rant...I truly have come over time to hate Willie Walsh & his odious neoliberal cohorts at IAG with a passion. They really do have no idea how to run a real business and in any other era they’d be driving their airlines to bankruptcy. All they do is provide perfect examples of corporate self-centredness, blandthink, excess cost-cutting and fearful self-preservation, while destroying staff morale and stripping their airline charges to the bare bones...to the point of driving valued customers away.

I just hope they go too far to the point they’re prosecuted for corporate crimes someday. One can only dream :talktothehand:

I remain intrigued that when new liveries come out people continue to act with surprise and disappointment at the amount of eurowhite. It happens every time.

It's 2019. Competition is intense. Margins are low. Cost saving measures (such as less paint) are the main order of the day.

Are people really expecting the days of full body paint jobs like Royal Jordanian or KLM or Braniff circa 1975?

EI is already a borderline low cost airline ( on TATL long-haul, for example they charge for alcohol, as well as giving only 1 checked in bag in higher fares only)

I like it! Maintains slightly more of the character of the airline than the IB update (IB just needs to add the crown and/or "IB" logo back to their livery and it'll be perfect!)

I really like it. Good job Aer Lingus!

Edit: I think I only just realised that the new IB logo is a stylised version of the red and yellow/orange "IB" from their previous livery... I feel a bit dumb for only seeing it now. I have a changing opinion of it now. But I still think the crown could possibly look good if added...

I think one day we'll look back at these years and say, "Remember when basically every airline utilized the same livery template with a plain white fuselage and company logo on the tail section? That sure was a boring era for commercial aviation liveries."

As far as uninspired euro-white liveries go, I think this is one of the more attractive ones. Not nearly as boring and bland as the latest from LH and IB.
