Texas is getting hit hard by Winter Storm Eboni, with strong storms and wind gusts. In addition an YV CR9 operating AA5741 from SLP to DFW was caught in severe turbulence diverting to AUS, with injured pax and apparent damage to the aircraft. The storm has led to hundreds of cancelled flights from DFW and IAH and other airports across Texas.

FR24 Error. UA 1115 normally runs TPA-IAH-PHX. It had landed in IAH and is now on its 2nd leg to PHX.

AA5781, not 5741.

That’s not right. This flight number operates TPA-IAH and IAH-PHX. The flight did not divert.

At IAH UA has had 26 diversions and 12 cancelled ( the 12 are all UaX). Given the choice I’d say better this just after Christmas than just before.

Just flew UAL 1612 IAH-PHL and we were about ten minutes late landing in PHL, and other than a rougher than normal climb-out it was not too bad. Glad I missed the "fun" earlier in the day.

The Boise State/Boston College game that was to be played at AT&T Stadium earlier today was canceled due to safety concerns/weather. I thought that was odd considering it’s an indoor stadium, so I checked the weather and found out how ugly it’s been. I hope things get back to normal soon.

Boise State and Boston College were in the process of playing...at the Cotton Bowl---not AT&T Stadium when they cancelled the game after a lengthy weather delay. The Cotton Bowl (stadium) is an outdoor stadium. I believe the Cotton Bowl (Bowl) is played at AT&T Stadium. Confusing for sure.

I'm in Austin and its just starting to get rough.

That game was started/played at Cotton Bowl Stadium at the state fair park, not AT&T stadium. The Cotton Bowl Classic is at AT&T Stadium....
As BSU fan, glad I did not plan my day around the game.
Interesting looking at the detours planes are taking now (10:45p MST) around the weather.

I flew in to IAH this evening on UA 3657 from CLT - we left the gate an hour late then sat on the tarmac for another hour because of the weather in Texas. Flight was fine until the last 45 minutes with a lot of zig zagging through east TX.

Also - I saw a large AA jet parked at Concourse D - looked like a 787 or 777, must have been another diversion perhaps?

What a stupid concept of naming winter storms. Screw the Weather Channel.

Oh okay, that makes more sense. I just scrolled to the bottom of the game info on the ESPN app and saw Dallas so my mind went to AT&T stadium, I guess (even though it’s in Arlington). I guess that’s what happens when you assume. :D

WN had around 50 canceled flights at DAL last night with 20+ diversions. Things were basically at a standstill with only a couple of flights departing and no arrivals between 5pm and 11:30pm.

That was Flight 79 from LHR to DFW. 777. I think the crew timed out and they had to send another crew from DFW. Not sure.

Some pretty bigly storms yesterday/last evening. A lot of lightening. When we got home from the gym, we had 3 breakers that had tripped. Two of our neighbors had 3-4 breakers trip as well. Before the storms, it was just VERY windy all day yesterday and it set off my neighbors alarm. The storms were here, on and off from approximately 3:30 - 9:30 pm.

You sure about the light winds? I just pulled the DAL METAR and it showed winds at 240 at 15 gusting to 25. That’s not great for either airport.

TWC has left no stone unturned in their effort to dumb down weather. It doesn't matter who owns them at a given moment, it's [email protected] across the board. I miss the old-school OCMs--and Jim Cantore used to be one of them back in the day before he joined the dark side. I also miss AM Weather on PBS.

Seconded on the PBS show AM Weather. That was outstanding. As for TWC...I enjoy severe weather coverage during an outbreak. It's something I never thought we would see (dating myself). As for the rest of the TWC programming, I miss the early days for sure. Too much focus on entertainment now, but that pays the bills I suppose.

I love how people have bought into the Weather Channel's glitchy naming of storms. IMHO, if it's not named by the NWS, it's just proof that someone actually watches that channel.

To be fair, WN puts these stupid names on their website from time to time. Guess that means their meteorology team uses them.

Wonder if WN Dispatch uses them too? "EBONI BLEW LOTS OF WIND. XPECT DELAYS"

Fun times at O'Hare today too. Heard a number of flights on final to runway 10C reporting 60-65 knots from 180 at 3000-5000 feet. Lots of 'unstable approaches' and go-arounds, especially with the RJ's. Heard of many delays and some cancellations due to heavy rain this morning, and the winds are still blowing from the south. Interesting times for east-west runways!

And speaking of Coppell, we got hit with high winds and rain about 8:15 pm last night. Anytime you get westerly winds at 60 mph, with wind driven rain coming under your western facing front door, you know dfw ops is going to get very busy.

Flew out of AUS this morning on AA to XNA via DFW. The AA lines were hell with all the diversions but wasn't sad being able to look at the AA 773 (flt 79 from LHR, the original pilots deadheaded on my flight to DFW) parked at Gate 3 this morning. Also to note was a UA 772 from EZE and a UA 763 from SCL. DFW was a madhouse as well mid day today. Quite an adventure.

Yeah, I determined that high pressure systems should be named for Batman fight words. I have prepared a list for the cycle.

1. AIEEE!
2. AIIEEE!
3. ARRGH!
4. AWK!
5. AWKKKKKK!
6. BAM!
7. BANG!
8. BANG-ETH!
9. BIFF!
10. BLOOP!
11. BLURP!
12. BOFF!

I use Weather.gov as a no nonsense straightforward accurate forecast for about current to 5 days out.
Simple to use with city name or zip code. Plain language and links for radar and written detailed forecasts.
