In a few months you’ll see the first A350 in a similar state
I would be too surprised if SAS ends up getto g the A330neo to supplement the A350s and as a replacement for their 4 oldest A330s

During 2019-2020 they will start phasing out "older jets" and do more of the flying with turboprops. They blame the reduction in the Swedish Domestic airline market. So they went from 5+5 CS planes for replacement of their Avros to nothing?

Any other Swedish domestic routes likely to terminate ?

Gotta be DL to DTW

There are rumours that one of them is Easyjet, but thanks for revealing the other!Looking forward to see A350s in Sälen!

Then again, I have no clue, so your guess is as good as mine

Furthermore while Mora used to have flights year round to Arlanda, these have now stopped. There probably is enough demand for something to Stockholm and/or Gothenburg - perhaps AIS or Air Leap might take a look at flights at the weekend (when their aircraft are sitting on the ground unused) if the bigger players like SAS, Norwegian and BRA are not interested ?

TUI used to fly to Fagernes (until Avinor closed the airport for burning so much subsidy) and currently fly to places like Kuusamo

Why not Emirates hauling snow-adventure seeking arabs to the mysterious dark and cold north with some A380s! Jokes aside, a few days ago I would have bet on BRA. They usually run some special winter legs from both BMA, MMX, AGH and more I think to OSD. Sälen would have been just as attractive from the southern parts, but perhaps not so much from Stockholm due to the shorter distance. After yesterday’s news regarding BRA, I don’t have a clue.

AY from HEL?....
FredrikHAD wrote:BRA has 13 ATR-72, 10 RJ 100 and 2 RJ 85. Scrapping half the fleet will lead to fewer destinations. Unless more ATRs are brought in there is exactly one less ATR per domestic destination they fly to (14), not counting JKG but counting HEL. There are four categories of destinations:
Short and medium distance with competition (SDL, KLR, VXO...)
Short and medium distance with no competition (HAD, THN...)
Longer distance with competition (UME, OSD)
Destinations with fierce competition (MMX, GOT)
MMX, being the HQ base will remain. As GOT has such fierce competition (GOT also has rail to compete with), that may be a candidate for closure. Then again, GOT probably provides the northern lines with connecting pax. THN with its proximity to GOT and rail to Stockholm is my first candidate (along with the already announced JKG). HAD has high load factors on the morning and evening flights, so that one may stay even if AGH is a close-by alternative to focus on if one of them needs to close. Perhaps bus from HAD to AGH would be an option.

I do hope AY is smarter than trying to sell ice to an inuit... I doubt there is any intrest from Finland to ski in Sälen. Danes, brits and (northern) germans may be attracted, but why Sälen when there’s Åre/Duved with OSD close by?

Because Åre requires a long bus transfer while Sälen is 6 km from the closest ski slopes?

But just a wild guess, I have no idea who might be interested in flying to Sälen to be honest.
MalevTU134 wrote:In all honesty, probably not too many people. In an international context, the slopes of Sälen don't compare very well. It is too close to Stockholm and Oslo for flights to be price/time efficient. So probably the suspects already mentioned. And any flights there may be will be highly seasonal, of course.

The slopes are not the most amazing in the world, but they have been pretty successful in promoting themselves as a family friendly ski resort that is great for children. So they might be able to attract families from other parts of Europe. But we'll see, and personally I wouldn't invest any money in the airport if given the opportunity.

OH-LWM has 297 seats.

But, as far as I know, OSL-ARN is the only route out there which is operated by both 787 and Saab 340 (in addition to 737s and A320s)

They haven't officially announced anything yet. The only A340 we know will leave the fleet is LN-RKP, that will be replaced by a brand new A330E to be delivered very soon.
I think they'll keep some A340's for a while after the A350's arrive. They're well maintained, have the "new" cabins etc. So they still have some years left in them. They'll likely be used to open new routes, such as CPH-SEA and ARN-NRT.
Someone83 wrote:If they keep some A340s, which several are down paid and owned, I do expect a minor kabin reconfiguration, with less business and premium economy seats and more economy seats. And then use the aircraft to possible destinations that their current fleet is too premium heavy
LN-RKP that will leave the fleet was bought by SAS a while a ago and will be broken up for spares to keep the rest of the fleet flying for a while. While it is the oldest frame, it has the newest engines from what I’ve heard
