Do you guys think AY could show at some point in future interest in Norwegian?

Norwegian has a "strong" and extensive network between Scandinavia, Europe and the UK to USA.
Finnair has one of the most extensive networks from Europe and Helsinki to Asia.

They could truly be a strong competitor for SAS in Scandinavia and from their hubs, and work in different regions of the planet.

I am sure I haven't been the first to come up with this idea. Many reasons for this not to happen, sure. Just was curious as if you think this could work.

Finnair have had a minor stake in Norwegian, I believe that it was a part of the deal when Norwegian bought Finnair-owned FlyNordic. They sold the stake quite a while back.
Other than that, I really struggle to see what Norwegian can bring to Finnair.
Norwegian are cutting most of their US routes from Scandinavia, mainly because they can't compete well with SAS and others. Low frequency vs. high frequency etc.
I don't think that Finnair would be interested in an airline whos main focus is LGW, CDG/ORY, FCO and MAD and an airline with huge debt. I don't think that other OW partners such as BA, IB and AA would be very happy if Finnair bought Norwegian with the purpose of maintaining Norwegians current LH strategy.
Either Norwegian will be bought by IAG and "merged" into Vueling/Level and BA's LGW operations or they'll go bankrupt. That's the only 2 scenarios I think are likely

Yes in 2007 Finnair sold their ARN based LCC FlyNordic to Norwegian Air Shuttle and got a minor stake in the company. In 2010 Norwegian and Finnair were in talks to start a closer co-operation, DY was growing and AY needed a regional feeder. That didn't work out, Finnair sold the stake in 2013. As SASViking said, it's highly unlikely these two would find each other again.

That's really sad! HEL seems to be like teflon for the lowfare carriers, now Vueling and Transavia will be gone by the end of March. Less competition, less choice, bad for travelers.

According to MTV3 News (in Finnish), CEO Topi Manner has said that the purpose is to make decisions on investments already next year. I believe the fleet investments are the main reason AY decided to change its strategy to "profitable growth".

Yhtiön toimitusjohtaja Topi Manner kertoo, että lähikuukausina yhtiö kartoittaa tarpeensa tarkemmin, ja investointipäätöksiä on tarkoitus tehdä kuluvana vuonna.

Starting from January 2020, Norwegian will be discontinuing its ARN-MMX flights. In Q1 2020 the airline planned on operating 3 to 4 daily flights. I guess this is more bad news for ARN.

More bad news for ARN on the long haul front! The last two years Emirates has been operating double daily during high season (Dec-Mar and Jun-Aug), and lately it has been scheduled at 11 weekly as a year-around service!
Now, the second flight has been removed completely and left ARN at not only daily, but even 6 weekly!!

The timetable indeed shows 6 weekly flights but when you try to book flights, the system gives you 2 daily flights, both in winter and summer seasons. So, don't worry, it seems to be just an error ;)

Starting from 10th January 2020, Norwegian will be discontinuing its HEL-VAA flights. This 2xw route started just two weeks ago so it last around two months.

According to that MTV3 news the CEO commented on the NB order: "In the coming months we'll take a closer look at our needs and the plan is we'll make decissions this year." Naturally releasing the news is an other thing.

There are however also rumours that BRA is considering OER.

So the rumours were correct, it will be interesting so how it works, and how many airlines are stil flying to Ö-vik after a year.

It is now reported that the first A321LR-route for SAS will be CPH-BOS. The inaugural flight will be 2020-09-18 and tickets will go on sale next week. No reports yet on where the other two aircraft will be used.

With the 3 321lr coming along wouldn't it be smart if SAS also got some 321neo standard also to replace the 321ceo

At some point in the future, sure. As for now, their A321s still have plenty of years left so no need

If I'm not mistaken, in their recent large order they have the opportunity to upgrade to 321. And I think that could be smart. They have a couple of A321s, but I think they could use more, and have a few in ARN and OSL as well. Also, I'd love to see A321neo in SAS colours!

Yes, they can upgrade, until 2 years before delivery of the aircraft.

Sveaflyg seems to be mostly a charter outfit but has flown ARN-VBY (Visby) and flown for Air Leap from time to time. Could it be that Sveaflyg will fly for Air Leap to OER? That would make it two operators (Air Leap and BRA), not three. Two is a lot as it is on that destination. Good for Örnsköldsvik, sure, but if one operator couldn’t make it alone (well, SAS may not be the most cost effective airline, but still) then with too much competition it may be that all new operators pull out eventually due to losses and then no one will dare to try operating OER again in a long time.

THAI adds A350 services to CPH and ARN in W19:

Bangkok – Copenhagen A350-900XWB operates on 16DEC19 / 26DEC19 / 29DEC19
TG950 BKK0050 – 0635CPH 359
TG951 CPH1350 – 0620+1BKK 359

Bangkok – Stockholm Arlanda A350-900XWB operates from 01DEC19 to 15DEC19
TG960 BKK0125 – 0655ARN 359 D
TG961 ARN1330 – 0545+1BKK 359 D

Routesonline

A350 has 27 seats less than B777-300ER. I believe we'll see A350 flying to Nordics on a regurlar basis in the near future.

SAS reduces flights from CPH to HKG from 5 to 4 weekly, likely due to decreased demand caused by Hong Kong protests. AY still has 14 weekly flights to HKG in W19 and S20.

Do you think SK will announce a new route to Tokyo? SAS gained a slot at Haneda (as far as I know) and CPH route will probably be moved there leaving the NRT slot unused. It was reported a year ago that SAS might launch ARN–NRT but since ANA launches HND–ARN, it's likely not going to happen.

ANA takes ARN, so I wish SK will add NRT-OSL, even for seasonal service in summer.
This is bit old interview article when Rickard Gustafson came to Tokyo on April 2018. (Sorry only in Japanese.)
http://www.travelvision.jp/news/detail.php?id=81542

Summary:
NRT-CPH will move to HND-CPH, and will use A350.
SAS hope to keep NRT slots after CPH flight move to HND.
NRT slots will use to new ARN service, if conditions permit.
ARN-NRT will be daily in summer, reduce in winter with A330.
Resume cooperation and codeshare with ANA.

Good to see ANA opening a Nordic service! No doubt ARN sounds like a potential success, hopefully the connections work well.

HEL will break a new record to Japan next summer season, with 45 weekly departures to six airports (NRT HND KIX NGO FUK CTS), Finnar and JAL combined. Japan truly is Finnair's bread and butter, their largest market outside Finland says their press release.

It may be too early to say but there is a possibility of some additions coming up for the W20 season as well. From November 2020, Finnair's timetable shows 14 weekly flights to TYO at the moment (instead of 9 in W19).

SAS have gained a slot at HND but from what I know, SAS are unhappy with the timings as they don't fit with any other LH route from CPH. From what I've heard SAS and ANA are negotiating a swap of slots at HND to give SAS a better departure and arrival time.
I wouldn't be surprised about a SAS CPH-HND announcement soon after this, I'm sure that the details about ANA to ARN have been a part of the negotiations

Reportedly, there are Dublin and Reykjavík coming up as well, both via HEL and PVG–HEL will be daily in S20.

Great to see Juneyao Airlines leveraging the geographical advantage of Helsinki Airport!

I’m really looking forward to these planes being delivered and to see the interior.

I assume they will be delivered with CFM Leap engines?

Looks like they also change the schedule, adding it to the midnight bank from HEL?

Yeah, PKX will departure at midnight along with HKG, HND, KIX, and SIN. Btw, if I recall correctly, JFK also departed at midnight when AY flew there 10x weekly in 2009.

From what I've heard they should indeed be with CFM Leap.
Regarding the interior it'll be very close to the one on the A330/A340/A350s although the seats in business will be slightly narrower and unlike the WBs not all business class seats will offer direct access to the aisle

SAS has just released the seatmap for the A321LR. As expected the Economy Plus sextips is 2-2 konfig and 3 rows. So a very good premium economy offering in a rather private cabin

I did not find it online. I found out it will have the same business class seats as Aer Lingus, but not the number of seats.
