How will the slots be allocated once NMIA phase 1 is operational? I'm sure every airline will want a piece of that pie. The 10m initial capacity doesn't exactly help the situation too.

What am I seeing here? These bunch of 9W flights with distinct flight numbers arriving exactly at the same time from CDG? My wife's morning departure got pushed back by hours in a last minute rescheduling by 9W, most probably because of this.
If only we had some spotters at the end of the runway right now!

Naresh is still wily because he is not putting any more money at risk...: it is Etihad and SBI/banks! He isn’t throwing good money after bad. At this stage of the game, he has 20 percent of the gains of any upside to a potential recovery without having to invest a further dime. He may still have the last laugh.

My guess is he is or will be losing even more control. Hence he feels he shouldn't have to put more money in. I think basically everyone said he needs to go. Perhaps with the banks and EY he got to retain one board seat for him / his family. But management control is gone.

Sky monopoly: Direct flights on 188 of 392 routes run by single playersData sourced from UK-based air travel intelligence firm OAG show that 188 air routes have direct flights operated by only one airline on that route, including Hyderabad-Raipur, Kolkata-Lucknow, Amritsar-Goa, Mumbai-Kanpur, Pune-Indore and Ahmedabad-Chandigarh.https://indianexpress.com/article/business/aviation/india-airlines-route-monopoly-oag-data-air-india-indigo-spicejet-udan-5558611/Interesting article. For what? Blacklisting AerCap from bidding on leases for wrongfully forcing AI to take CRJs to Jordan for the lease-end condition check, where the contract says FAA certified MRO facility.
What is so magical about Jordan based MROs anyway? Do they asses the damage on the higher side to benefit lessors?
There is a sworn deposition on this topic by AI officials in 2012, blaming AI in 2019 is not going get AerCap back in the game.
Private carriers never study what happened to Air India, they think they are too smart, 9W paying the price now.

DEL & BOM are no brainers for wanting / needing connections to most medium to large cities in India. Only good news is that airlines can up gauge to bigger planes. So growth can happen. final upside is maybe fares go up a bit. India needs some profitable routes. If BOM becomes India's LGA or LHR, then so be it. BOM people can afford a bit higher fares. While New Bombay will help, I can't imagine anyone from the western suburbs ever going to the new airport. What BOM really needs is clearing of the slums to create a parallel runway.
Actually, there are more chances that BOM looses some routes in the near future. With railway's gradually improving their speed, at some point lot of air traffic may shift there. In turn, this will open-up slots for longer routes.
Either way, NMIA may turn out to be a 'dim-wit' idea.
Sorry I disagree. Even with railways and another runway at BOM, the metro area would still need New Bombay’s airport. Plus New Bombay is really its own city. It is far away. I am curious why you think it is a “dim-wit” idea. That’s a very strong statement so would love your thoughts.
Well if I follow the airline guru’s on this board, a successful airline/airport needs lot of F/J traffic. Where would this traffic at NMIA come from?
My personal opinion is that the time to improve India’s road and rail infrastructure will be infinite. Any city that wants to build an airport should be encouraged, including NMIA.
Just not sure NMIA will serve its intended purpose.

You need strong J for long haul (or Y fares that are high). NMIA will serve domestic flights (no J needed) and narrow body high demand regional destinations like BKK, SIN, DXB (again no J needed). Domestic flights and adding new nonstop connectivity to new Indian cities and the mumbai region being its prime function. Im sure the airport will also encourage more businesses to open campuses in New Bombay. As I mentioned earlier, I could actually see a medium connecting hub in NMIA before even HYD or MAA.

Let's take Istanbul, why would someone suffer for five, six hours on an LCC with absolutely no service when there is TK with its state of the art onboard product? Same thing with London where fares aren't that high?
What's IndiGo betting on?
Betting on extending award-winning in-flight service to long-haul.
Apparently, TK/6E operate from different terminals at DEL/BOM, the transfer will be a breeze compared to TK/AI. Enduring 8 hrs BLR-IST on a cup of noodles, no IFE, not even streaming will be world class. Also, 6E accepts forex only for international BoB. Any poor soul unaware of these facts will go hungry unless co-passengers share food.
Anyway, this whole thing could be filed along with Gatwick and Tbilisi/Baku tech stop news.
All of that is undeniably true. 6E doesn't operate from the integerated Terminals at neither DEL nor BOM. So not sure of how the strong domestic feed will allow for smooth transfers at those airports. Also as of now 6E operates from three terminals at DEL. So they will have to think of something unless they relying on O&D only.
Transfers will be a nightmare and the main obstacle for 6E to monetize on their extensive India network at DEL (or BOM). One needs atleast 3 hrs minimum for transfer and it will be bigger challenge for elderly or those travelling with small children or with wheelchair needs. Also the fares to Europe are for most part farily competitive and the price of the flight is only a portion of the total costs. For UK, the visa fees exceed the flight cost, so only those who are reasonably doing well will consider Europe trips and cost of the flight will be lower in the priority list.

Unless infrastructure magically improves, going to NMIA from most parts of Bombay will take 2 hrs +. Who will commute that amount of time for a short or medium haul flight?
It will be faster to go to Surat for folks in Andheri/Borivali and catch a flight to DXB, BKK or SIN.

I remember reading an article on it in one of the newspapers........he was cheering for a Qatar Airways investment (in a brand new Indian aviation company). Later he made statements stating in strong terms that "effective control" would have to be with Indians, regardless of 100% foreign holding......or something along those lines.

Deepak Talwar has been extradited to India. For those not in the know, this man ruled the roost in lobbying with the aviation ministry during the UPA era.
Received kickback of $9.8 million from Air Arabia for helping the airline secure more destinations Received kickback of $9 million from Qatar Airways Helped Dubai based airline Emirates to get bilateral agreements amended to enable larger passenger access in Indian market Helped Air Asia in obtaining operating permits
Talwar’s alleged proximity to the then Civil Aviation minister Praful Patel helped him become a major player in the aviation sector. Talwar won two major contracts from Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) during Patel’s tenure for which DIAL drew flak from the CAG. According to an internal investigation by Air India, Talwar’s company supplied DVDs for the airline’s in-flight entertainment system at ten times the market rate.
Deepak Talwar’s name also figured in the infamous Radia tapes. Niira Radia in a telephone conversation with a Times of India reporter had claimed that Talwar and Praful Patel had made $300-400 million in selling bilaterals (air service agreements between Air India and foreign airlines) on the Gulf routes. CAG report said that Civil Aviation ministry under Patel approved additional rights to Emirates despite UAE’s failure to give reciprocal rights to Air India. According to Radia, Deepak Talwar was instrumental in the “Emirates deal”.
