Agreed, talking with a group of friends, it does not scale well on the long tubes. Because this “livery” is mostly white and grey, the longer the fuselage, the more obvious it’s boring design features. I suspect the 787-10, 757-300, and probably the 767-400 will look equally as bizarre.

I'll withhold judgment until I see it from a different angle, but I'd hardly classify this livery under "bizarre"... bland, unimpressive, maybe, but it does strike me as bizarre, as in particularly strange or amusing. Just my impression, though!

Right now there are 3. 2 in AMA (1 Airbus 1 738) and then a 763 line in LCQ.

I flew out of CHS today and there was a 787 parked at the Boeing facility that was at least partially in the new livery. I couldn't see most of the fuselage due to ground equipment but the tail was in the new colors.

Remove the ridiculous bandit mask and I’d have to agree.

Though I’m not too big a fan of the aesthetics of the ACF configuration. The original config made it look like a smaller 757 which is obviously the best looking plane ever made. This being A.Net after all.

That should be N12010. They come off the FAL with the tail fully painted, it won’t be in full livery yet.. It may be painted there at CHS, or flown elsewhere TBD.

Ex-PSA CRJ2 that flew with AA. I wonder if SkyWest is picking any more frames up from them.

It has to be tough to design around the wings on the CR2, since they almost look like boards flat on the bottom of the fuselage. I think the ERJ 145 will look better, since it has proportions similar to the CR7. When I see those fly over, sometimes, it takes until they are right over me before I can tell them apart.

Skywest has purchased 3 of the ex-PSA frames
N223JS
N221PS
N246PS
None are in service yet, but 223 has been painted and 246 is in for new livery now.

Gosh, I couldn’t disagree more!
FINALLY that over done livery on the 738 has room to breathe! The totally out of place wave starts to disappear on a long bird. While I will never love the CO globe in any treatment, at least it is somewhat decorative in the blue on blue, and the very large branding has the negative space it so badly needed on a short fuselage. At least the is a bit of brand hierarchy now- instead of each of the 4 major elements fighting each other.
It is too bad that the livery is a missed opportunity to have done something fresher, because this update will not say anything different to the world about UNITED.

It really looks like no designer with the ability to craft a redesign of an airline livery worked on it. No real branding agency has ever been mentioned...It shouts “ad hoc” iterations until someone said “Great, approved”
It’s NOT awful, it’s close to the old livery but a bit more cheery.

FYI, it was designed by PriestmanGoode who also has done all of UAL’s other recent branding including the new cabins.

I think too that the titling on the smaller aicraft is too larrge and out of scale. Hence looks cheap. They could easily fix this. The livery needs to be in balance. It needs to be cohesive. These things matter - how can it be that an airline the size of UAL got this one wrong? Scaling is everything. They need to fix it on the smaller narrowbody aircraft IMHO.

From FAA website. (Note that many of the Polaris STC configurations (first one with that exact configuration have taken more than 90 days)

A supplemental type certificate (STC) is a type certificate (TC) issued when an applicant has received FAA approval to modify an aeronautical product from its original design. The STC, which incorporates by reference the related TC, approves not only the modification but also how that modification affects the original design.

Although rumored for some time it is finally official, UA's schedule changes for flights to Australia starting IATA summer 2020.

2019 IATA summer schedule 2020 IATA summer schedule
SFO-SYD 1X Daily----- SFO-SYD 1X Daily
LAX-SYD 3X Weekly----- LAX-SYD 1X Daily
IAH-SYD 4X Weekly------ IAH-SYD 1X Daily
LAX-MEL 1X Daily----- LAX-MEL 4X Weekly
SFO-MEL no flights---- SFO-MEL 3X Weekly

United's 2019 experiment of trimming LAX-SYD-LAX was a failure (LAX-SYD-LAX is one route you have to operate daily to be successful). The bright spot was IAH-SYD-IAH where UA increased the frequency from 3X weekly 2018 to 4X weekly 2019 and demand outstripped supply. Next year UA plans to operate IAH-SYD 1x daily year round.

However even with more 789s being delivered in 2020 UA has officially decided to trim our total flights to MEL. The original 2020 plan was to operate LAX-MEL 1X daily and SFO-MEL 3X weekly. UA just announced the changes instead of reducing LAX-SYD, they will reduce LAX-MEL to 4X weekly and leave SFO-MEL at 3X weekly which will still give us 7X weekly flights from the U.S. to MEL. Although MEL is not SYD I still think reducing LAX-MEL is a mistake.

Although this is now the current official schedule for Australia, we all know airlines can change or amend their schedules at any time. Take for instance the schedule change for UA's EWR-HKG flight from January 12 through March 27 that route will be reduced from daily to 3X weekly as demand continues to drop as business travelers and leisure travelers continue to avoid traveling to Hong Kong.

Possibly, but would it be better to have daily flights to just LAX or SFO? I can't answer that, but I can say, both options are better than the old tag on route from SYD-MEL.

No s**t, but if you are adding Spring Break flights to Florida, the panhandle is an odd place to add for March as temperatures there only get up to the upper 60s lower 70s in March. Not to mention the fact that UA doesn't even serve EWR/IAD-ECP, and is only just now adding DEN-ECP.

Its called spring break.

Panama City Beach is renowned as a Spring Break Mecca. https://pcbeachspringbreak.com/

Yeah, I went to spring break at Panama City in college. A lot of kids in the STL area go there for spring break. Closest place they can drive. Others fly.

Just as an aside, and I do not mean it disparagingly, I always thought identifying a place as a "Spring Break Mecca" (or any other Mecca of drinking, gambling or other equally dissolute conduct) was a bit ironic!

It really looks like no designer with the ability to craft a redesign of an airline livery worked on it. No real branding agency has ever been mentioned...

FYI, it was designed by PriestmanGoode who also has done all of UAL’s other recent branding including the new cabins.

Gosh! How did I miss that! I never even thought to look as PriestmanGoode is not a branding agency (branding as in identity). They are industrial designers who develop branded interiors) . But- every agency says they do everything! Still, it’s rarely the case that the agency gets the full credit good or bad, it’s the client. The best work I believe I’ve done I credit the client for approving it.
And the story reads as a perfect post rationalization. Which EVERY agency does: everything gets written as “this is what we wanted from the start, methodically planned and came out as planned” - when 9 out of 10 times the recommended work resides on digital files!

I think this is also a good explanation for how the new livery turned out the way it did. Had UA gone back to Lippincott (the designer of the globe and CO identity, as well as new DL, WN, and others), Pentagram (PMUA), or any other classic brand agency, then we probably would have gotten a more inspired result.

No worries, I thought it was funny! I am by no means the sensitivity patrol, and sometimes I appreciate some levity in the threads! I strongly encourage your continued posting. :D
