Has there been any additional word on any special flights or events for the last MD-80 flight, or a set date for the final flight(s), etc.?

As I'm reading this forum, two of them just departed in the last ten minutes here in DSM with another arriving soon. How very quiet this airport will be when they're gone...

N379AA (763) is scheduled to fly to ROW tomorrow (5/21), presumably into retirement. It must have hit a maintenance mark otherwise it's aggressive for it to go into retirement with Summer schedule around the corner and all those MAX aircraft grounded.

I'm assuming with the Max situation still up in flux AA hasn't got a fixed date on retiring the last of the MD80s this year although AA has said the retirement by the EOY is still on plan despite the grounding. You could see retirement slip into the fall months or possibly right after the holiday travel period in very early 2020.

They have paused the A321 Oasis for the summer to focus on Reliability. They will resume in the fall at a rate of 7/8 retrofit lines per month. All the LUS 321's will be done first then the LAA 321's. They are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020.

Looks like with the modifications on hold AA will stay on plan to retire a/c this year even if the Max doesn't come back online until sometime post summer. So I'm assuming by the EOY the MD80s, E190s (I think they go this year) and LUS 757s will be gone.

I'm just curious, but would AA ever consider the A220 either for a long-term replacement for the A319 or even some of the larger "regional" jets? I was really impressed with the A220 when I flew it on DL a few weeks ago; that's why I'm wondering if it'd be a good addition to the AA mainline fleet.

FWIW, I saw quite a few 757s flying into DFW yesterday, probably a few more than usual. I'm wondering if that's a ripple effect from the 3M8 grounding or if there's something else behind it.

There’s a couple on PHL/CUN-DFW and DFW-ANC.

Is B757, N938UW ever going to emerge from BFM, where it has been for nearly four months? Big investment for an aircraft that is expected to be parked around year's end.

Looking at Flightradar24, it would seem so. The LUS 757s are still doing PHX-Hawaii flights I believe.

I knew the 752s were usually a rare sight into DFW, but in recent days, they've shown up on flights between DFW and JFK, PHL, MIA and LAS (I might have also seen on on DFW-PHX). That's why I was wondering if the 752s are sticking around a little longer until the MAX 8 issues are (hopefully) resolved.

End of this summer at the latest, that's when all the remaining 83s are to leave the fleet, unless American decides to keep them a little longer till all the MAX8 aircraft are cleared by the FAA to return to service, but I think that by the end of the summer the MAX will return. The sole 82 left could leave earlier than that, but at don't know if it will or if it will solder on with the 83s till they all leave.

Yes they are, till the end of this year. The are 34 757s remaining at American, including 10 ex-US 757s which are leaving the fleet before the end of this year. The A321NEOs are gradually taking over.

Honestly lavatories will probably stay. I’d imagine they’re more talking about IFE and maybe pitch. Wouldn’t surprise me to see 31” and IFE in a future AA product.

ISOM was asked that specifically and he said there is a GAP in the 100 seat arena (w/ the E190s leaving) and they are looking at it. But in the end he thinks A319s with the commonality are probably a better choice even though a little larger.

According to the Timetable, AA is using 752 on DFW-JFK, DFW-PHL, DFW-MIA, DFW-LAS, and DFW-PHX. They were also using some on MIA-LAS.

Well, they can always add 4 to 8 business class seats on the A319 to make the capacity close to 100...wink wink.

It's actually not MAX related. Before the MAX grounding, DFW was already set to see twice as many 757 flights as any other AA station this summer. There were planned to be 22 daily departures (LAS x2, PHX x1, MIA x4, PHL x6, JFK x3, BOS x2, CUN x2, LIM x1, KEF x1) - you can still see this schedule in effect in late August. All of these flights are on the LAA birds that are staying around for a while, with the exception of the PHX-DFW-PHX rotation which is an LUS 757.

Actually, getting the A220 and deploying it to its two largest and most profitable hubs in DFW and CLT could go a long way. Both of those hubs should have more mainline.

The A220 would actually be better deployed in PHX/LAX to free up 319s for DFW/CLT shorter trips in my opinion.

I just finished 757/767 recurrent training a few weeks ago and the retirement of the LUS 757s has been put on hold, presumably because the aircraft shortage due to the Max fleet being grounded.

AA could get a smoking deal on E190-E2s right now. That would be a better fit than the A220, IMO.

Why so many 757 flights out of DFW? Less out of MIA now? Could AA 757s replace most of their remaining 767 flights since the 767 is going away so soon?

The LAA 757s seem to be mostly concentrated at DFW and PHL going forward, with the only flights left at MIA being a few longer South American routes (LIM, VVI, BSB) and hub-to-hub flights to DFW and PHL (although note that there are likely going to be more 757s at MIA than originally planned this summer to cover for the MAX 8s).

I don't see them taking over too many 767 routes, as the 757 wouldn't have enough range to reliably operate routes like MIA-COR, MIA-MVD, PHL-BUD, PHL-DBV, etc.

In 2020 the new 788s will replace the 767s out of PHL. I'm assuming the remaining 763s going into 2021 (the last year) will be used for MIA/Deep SA flying. No word yet on whether they will become 788, 332 or 777 routes.

A330s I don't think so because those are sticking to the PHL and CLT hubs, former US hubs. I see 77Es taking over 767s routes out of MIA that a 757 wouldn't be able to do nonstop, for example MIA-LIM or MIA-MVD. MIA hasn't seen the 787 yet, it probably will as more come into the fleet.

I don't believe AA would use a 772 on those routes... not yet. That's a pretty large increase in capacity. There was an article saying they would replace old 763 routes with incoming 788s once they're gone, specifically on routes like MIA-LIM and the upcoming MIA-COR.

The 757 can do MIA-LIM nonstop as AA is currently running 2x daily MIA-LIM on one 757 and one 767.

Yes you're right. A 757 can do MIA-LIM. as it has done, don't know if it still does, MIA-BSB. I was saying the 77E because I wasn't sure when MIA would see the 788.

MIA-LIM is 767 because of cargo not because of range or pax. going 752 on LIM won't solve the cargo issue. look for it to remain widebody. the only 767 deep SA route is MVD which is out of 752 range.

The 788 will come to MIA after 2020... I'd say around 2021 when the 767s are scheduled to be retired.

The 788 will take out the 767-300. The first big wave of that will start to happen in January 2020. We’ll have 3 787s that go into Philadelphia. By the end of 2020 the 78 will have replaced the 767 in Philadelphia and after that it take out the 767s that remain in Miami.

I don't think COR is able to be reached on a 752 as well. That'll very likely be switched to a 788 later.

I thought Delta used the 757 for JFK-PSA, which is longer than MIA-COR and has more headwinds westbound? In terms of capacity the 757 seems perfect for MIA-COR. Perhaps a 77E to LIM for the cargo (plus 757s from DFW and MIA) and a 788 to MVD for the range? AA has only 20J in the 788, which is even less than the 767 and should be optimal capacity. DL flew 77L to LIM at one time for the cargo alone.

Is B757, N938UW ever going to emerge from BFM, where it has been for nearly four months? Big investment for an aircraft that is expected to be parked around year's end.

No responses, so I'll respond. N938UW should be returning to service either today, May 27 or tomorrow.

Looks like with the modifications on hold AA will stay on plan to retire a/c this year even if the Max doesn't come back online until sometime post summer. So I'm assuming by the EOY the MD80s, E190s (I think they go this year) and LUS 757s will be gone.

FWIW, I saw quite a few 757s flying into DFW yesterday, probably a few more than usual. I'm wondering if that's a ripple effect from the 3M8 grounding or if there's something else behind it.

I think I commented on this a little while ago, but for whatever reason the AA 757s are in high capacity for the summer on DFW-PHL (like 6-7x a day in fact) and to MIA, BOS, etc. Enjoy it while you can because I don't think DFW has been this much 757 action in quite a while.

There will more than a few 772 available to do SA flying after the summer when seasonal AE flights are stopped. Certainly Rome but Paris and Madrid as well as a London will be trimmed down from JFK flying IMO.

I wonder what is going to happen with all the 737s MAX that were supposed to have been delivered already so far this year once the plane is allowed to fly again. Will they be delivered all at once or it is going to take a while?

Sorry if this has been answered before, but why PIT? Going into service from there, or some more ancilliaries being fitted?

AA has their main Airbus maintenance facility at PIT, a holdover from US days.
