I believe it was done at the request of people working the ramp to add some reflectivity at night during push backs and other movements around the ramp.

Can someone tell me what AA has accomplished on the ex-Frontier A319s at GYR ?

Also I'm wondering what gets accomplished at CLT on the A319s that seems to always take a month or more.

Thanks!

GYR is one of the MROs doing a majority of the interior work and then it goes to CLT for final indoc and checks. The first couple had lots of issues since the setup that F9 used was very different so pieces are out of place comparatively.

It is a test to see if it prevents wingtip collisions by adding a more visible/contrasting color to the edge of the wingtips to assist in visual cues that the winglet is about to strike something.

At one point, all of the aircraft in the fleet with winglets were supposed to get red tips in order for ground crews to better see them. However, it was widely unpopular as it made the winglets look hideous, so they stopped the project and are in the process of repainting the remaining ones back to normal.

Heads up, the first LUS A321 that went through the Oasis retrofit... Tail #161. The first one to be delivered to US Airways in early 2000’s we know those ones were very very long in the tooth returns to service with new galleys/closets/power/seats/PRAM(boarding music/announcement system) tomorrow. It’ll be flying the PHL-SEA-PHL route for a bit so if you fly on it/work it or it comes to your station post some pics! Dying to see if they did a typical cheap retro job or actually seriously overhauled those old birds!

It will have 20FC and 170YC.

This work was never billed as an overhaul, rather as the "OASIS" mod.
As for "typical cheap retro job", AA could not replace galleys, overhead bins, seats, PRAM, and add power at the seats, inexpensively. Additionally, considering the cost of the airframe out of service time for the mod coupled with the size of AAs A321 fleet, it will be a rather costly investment in these aircraft.

Sad excuse.

DL overhauled ex NW 320's delivered in early 1990's with full in-seat power, AVOD at each seat, WIFI and fully new overheads and bathrooms.

You're living in the Dougie America West world my friend where everything is done on the dime. Or as you pointed out, "inexpensively."

The Overhaul is actually a complete gutting of the A321s. They’ve redone everything inside of the plane (including the galleys). The only thing missing is IFE at every seat (which management is thinking of adding at some point).

I actually work here and from what we’ve been told the new VP of marketing is trying to sell the idea to management. They’re looking at a system similar to what Delta has on their A220s. It’s plug-and-play and lightweight.

The Gogo/Delta-developed solution would be perfect and I hope it happens. Frankly, if they didn't want to buy from a competitor, I'm surprised they don't work with Samsung or another big tablet firm to develop something in house to sell. It really doesn't have to be that complicated and if you allow Samsung to put their name on it - they could share in the development costs.

I have a mansion to sell to anyone who believes Mr Parker et al are thinking of adding in seat IFE while they are in the process of removing it.

There's little point in adding new overheads and lavatories as they don't enhance the passenger experience much. Glad to see AA did put an all-new interior in #161 except for AVOD.

It hasn't left not a single seat has had one removed. Those are still years away if they happen at all. Can people wait until they actually remove one for making it the single biggest complaint on this board?

The new overheads are game changers and improves for me the single biggest negative to sitting in the back is bins room and time it takes to board. All are greatly improved with the new bins..

Has it been discussed when AA will begin swapping the 767 with 787 on S. America routes? They have the best connectivity out of all US3 to the continent, but some of the worst onboard product.

There's been some talk that MIA-COR/LIM may be switched once the 763s are gone. MVD will likely switch as well.

Last I heard, MIA is last priority for 788s. PHL will start 788 service in January 2020 I believe.

If AA Leadership actually comes to the point they want to add seatback IFE, they should all be fired. The cost to do so, after all the current renovations, will be astronomical beyond present costs. And it would represent a complete incompetence in the marketplace and utter lack of forward planning/thinking.

You can't take the America West out of the American.

No, they haven’t started taking out ANY personal TVs on LAA A321s/737s. They are planning to but haven’t started the process. They’ve only retrofitted LUS A321s and the classic 738s to Oasis interiors.

Correct, but they haven’t done the Oasis mod on any planes with seat back IFE as of yet.

What airports still don’t have combined-location AA ops since the merger? SAT and ATL come to mind, and it’s doubtful that those two will get a chance to see flights all operating from the same place.

SFO has still not combined locations due to terminal construction, although I think there is some cross utilization of gates.

Ex-F9 N771XF entered revenue service with AA on 5/8.

https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/N771XF

Oddly enough, this appears to be the only -111 in the AA A319 fleet at the moment.

Any word on the mainline fleet satellite wifi project? There were only a few 738s and 321s left a month or so ago that did not have the satellite installed. I was looking to see if there were any updates on the project?

Safety takes a backseat to cosmetics? I thought the accent looked sharp, but would really have appreciated a contrasting color on the downward pointing winglets on the 737 MAX.

The American Fleet Site seems to get update about every two months now, so I wouldn't look for an status update until early June.

Anyone have information on when AA will input the next A321 for the OASIS mods?

As I understand are all of the mods (738/321) have been suspended until the end of the summer, particularly with the loss of the Max. I would assume like with the repainting effort AA will begin again after Labor Day. However, if the Maxs are still grounded and in consideration the MD80s are suppose to also be phased out post summer travel I wonder if AA will slow down or even continue to suspend the mods.

Oddly enough, this appears to be the only -111 in the AA A319 fleet at the moment.

It was modified to an Airbus A319-112 prior to service entry:

Dying to see the pics of the galley’s and cabin, anyone get shots of it yet, it’s flying PHL/SEA turns all month.

The galleys are remaining unchanged except for the addition of the galley aft of 1R and the addition of a second oven to the first class galley.

The Overhaul is actually a complete gutting of the A321s. They’ve redone everything inside of the plane (including the galleys). The only thing missing is IFE at every seat (which management is thinking of adding at some point).

Call me skeptical about that IFE comment... would love for to see a return of seatback IFE, but eh...

wifi is so sketchy and the Lack of seat back power where they can push there Brand and distract people from the misery of Y flying is beyond silly to me.

It hasn't left not a single seat has had one removed. Those are still years away if they happen at all. Can people wait until they actually remove one for making it the single biggest complaint on this board?

many many planes don't have it. so Yea....

They have not touched any planes that does have it as of yet. Either way what is currently in use will be phased out and replaced regardless since the systems do go obsolete fairly fast.

This is a picture of the A321neo, not the reconfigured A321 Oasis. The A321 Oasis does not have colored mood lighting, just white.

The lighting has changed to LED lighting. Besides the color in this photo everything else looks exactly the same as this picture minus the seat placement around 2L/R. The picture is just to give an idea about how things look.

Does the A321 oasis have the larger bins?

Yes, new bins, seats with power and tablet holders, and new lavs.

So, it would appear the Airspace XL bins are retrofittable to older Airbus cabins? Much nicer design than the awful pivot bins Delta chose for the A319/20 retrofits in 2015/16
