So at SRQ yesterday a laptop burned aboard AA CRJ-900 7:14pm, still on the ground on the way to Charlotte. Today’s 7:14pm flight was cancelled. I’m guessing AA is short on airplanes with the Max issues, and I’m not sure if that aircraft in question is out of service, but how long would it be to replace a row of seats or something else needs to be checked too?

It would likely fly with the seat inoperable to the MX base in CLT if it were that bad, but not bad enough as to keep it from being airworthy. Having worked a AA flight with a laptop fire, we reset the emergency exit doors and went on our way.

This weeks OAG shows SRQ-CLT jumping to 5 daily and PHL-SRQ going daily next winter. With ORD and DFW flights AA will operate 8 flights a day. The growth will continue. Maybe the airport can top 1994 and start setting some records in 2020.

CORRECTION:...9 flights, you forgot DCA

TPA--some increase for Air Canada to 4 destinations

RSW--guess Eurowings is keeping the A340 in there

Ok awesome thanks! Now is it around same timeframe as last season or did they extend it like with DFW.

Now I hope Delta shows some more, I think they could do bigger aircraft as my flights few weeks back were completely sold out and had standbys, wish they would bring in the 757 not just for January February.

And I had to take few pics of the Crystal airplane too, really cool to see it as SRQ. Now Piccolo said hopefully it will bring more charters, I wonder what could come up? Would have been nice if Suncountry would have done more.

A long way off, but I could see the A321XLR being a gamechanger for TPA and Florida in general. Have to think there are numerous point-to-point flights between Florida and Europe the 757 never had the legs for will now be opened up. The below map illustrates the 757 vs A321XLR pretty well. I used 3900nm for the 752 and 4700nm for the A321XLR. I tried embedding the image to no avail.

That’s definitely disappointing that I won’t see the Icelandic 757 at TPA anymore.

And SRQ is moving in the right direction. It’s funny to see on the July schedule on days that Allegiant and Frontier not flying the flight schedule almost looks like last years on number of daily flights.

Don't see anything.

Also, forgot to add...CLE increases to 3 weekly starting third week of November.

This seems like a terrible idea. This will dwarf any service to the fortress hubs out of SCE. I cannot imagine there's enough traffic to sustain this. This will not draw that much traffic from the surrounding area, either largely because there aren't many people there in the first place. And college students probably won't be hopping mid-semester flights that often.

I didn't realize that for the next 2 months CVG on allegiant is 4x weekly. And then for Frontier and Allegiant in the fall for both CLE and CVG you will fly on Sundays and Thursdays and then at times Tuesdays. They really could have spread flights out over the week.

In addition to SCE

G4 also announced

PIE-TVC

PGD -TVC

Interesting because 7Q recently started SRQ-TVC. now G4 will do PIE/PGD-TVC........what will happen???

Don't forget, 7Q announced SRQ-PIT...then G4 announced the same route. The very next day, 7Q pulled the route before it even started.

I meant to ask how was TVC doing? The inaugural flight had 6 passengers. I mean it’s still flying so that’s good. Know couple people around the area that are from there.

Probably because it was a last minute addition.

They started with once a week, and it moved to twice a week...so who knows

It wouldn't have had service because it can't support it. I cannot fathom how Allegiant thinks SCE is going to generate enough service to prevent the small central PA population from going to PIT and MDT and, to a lesser extent, ELM, AVP, and ABE.

College kids aren't going to be hopping these flights on random weeks through the year. Without the students around, the town is pretty small. There are more cows in the area than people.

Centre County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state. MDT, even at 90 minutes away, has always been a cumbersome option. PIT really isn't that close, either. SCE, albeit a small airport, is on pace to break its enplanement record which was set last year. I think it'll do well.

I can understand if it's seasonal. I can't understand it year-round.

Most flights to the fortress hubs aren't anywhere near full as it is (even if they're daily vs. 2-3 times per week), and now Allegiant thinks they'll meet break-even on substantially-larger aircraft?

I heard that Allegiant is looking for a hotel in Sarasota area, for 22 rooms. They have 1 aircraft overnight, would this mean that they might have even 3 overnight? PSA until last year had 16 rooms at a hotel and they had 2 aircraft overnight, and one crew from the day flight stay over.

Hopefully Allegiant crews behave better then PSA crews, heard some crazy stories!

Frontier definitely didn’t faze Delta at all when they flew to Atlanta and I don’t think DL lowered prices, seemed to always be around $350+ round trip. Now Frontier had the super low prices and it felt like flights left full, did they even try to raise the prices a bit more to make the route sustainable? The passengers were definitely Atlanta locals so it’s disappointing that an affordable option is gone.

It is nice to see Delta bring in the A321 because their planes are full to the brim, wish they would switch out more of the MD-90s to bigger airplanes. Last time I flew them they had people on standby in Atlanta to Sarasota who didn’t get on the airplane.

Flying Delta to Las Vegas next month and for a cheaper price could have flown them from Tampa in regular economy, but I wanted to support SRQ and paid more to fly basic economy go figure.

After reading this week's OAG thread I went snooping on AA' website and found this:

Seeing some interesting things with AA.

DFW increases to 2 flights and they're BOTH A319. Since these are not ex-US routes, I wonder if that means we will see the newer A319s. ORD flight was supposed to start back 1 week before Christmas, that will now also start in November. AA will schedule an A321 on one of the CLT flights. RON unfortunately. Seems all of these changes will end Nov 20. Not seeing any of these in December, but I don't think those skeds are yet finalized. AA seems to really be challenging Delta for the #1 spot @ SRQ

We looking at 40-50 flights per day November to April for SRQ? That will have to set records right?

No....the record was 58 in April 1990. That's not even counting commuter props.

For giggles, here's the SRQ schedule for Feb 15, 1985

Here's a little comparison with RSW

SRQ----that EA flight from DCA----I totally remember THAT, it was in that 6:00pm hour, went back to DCA

Should have been more clear. I was referring to passenger numbers. Not number of flights.

Ok, gotcha sorry...

RSW actually has the pax stats for EVERY month since it opened in 1983. Unfortunately, SRQ doesn't do that...April 2012 is as far back as it goes.

Oh joy, one security checkpoint.

As a frequent traveler to RSW I find the security lines to move a bit slower than most other airports I travel to/from, even the Pre-Check lines which see to be open more recently than in previous years. Probably a combination of the TSA Agents being more advanced in years though it has gotten lower in recent times and also having more leisure travelers who are not really familiar with security procedures in place.

Another visit in a few months so will have to see how the added lines for this coming season work out.
