Have QR received all of their A359s ? I still see they have the 4 LATAM A359s. I'd have expected those to go once they received all the A359s.

No, they haven't yet. Look at hkcanadaexpat reports and other contributions. QR have received 44 now, with 45th wearing the reg. They're more-or-less two-thirds into completing.

LATAM had no use of the frames, so I expect to see them at QR a little longer, unless Delta deal impacts those frames as well.

Cheers,

QR had 4 of the LATAM frames that had already operated with LATAM, then 2 went back at the end of 2017, but now QR is back up to 4 LATAM aircraft with the delivery of two brand new aircraft. So right now there are A7-AMA/AMB and A7-AQA/AQB. Sence the former are coming up on 2.5 years in the QR fleet, I wonder why they were never repainted.

According to planespotters.net, they show that they have 36 359s and 9 35Js delivered, with one additional 359 (A7-AQC) and 6 more 35Js on order. However according to AIB Family Flights, they have at least 10 more 35Js on order.

I think they ordered 70 in all with a 45 359 / 25 35K split.

Planespotters.net don't show birds on order until they are close to delivery or someone has managed to take a picture of them. They are way behind on listing birds on order.

Hi,

I remember reading here that SA will be getting some A359's which are in TLS, is this correct? I just saw this information too from the skyliner website:

Airbus A350 -941 226 B-304Z Hainan Airlines ferried 21oct19 PEK-SIN, for South African Airways ex F-WZFG

Is this one of those A359's going to SA or is this another one as it is ferried from PEK to SIN?

Anyone know what the weight selected for these SA birds will be.

Be interesting if they ever try to do nonstop TATLs with them: to see the performance out of JNB, or if they opt for CPT

I am curious about the same thing. I wonder, when an airline takes up an NTU aircraft without much delay, are they bound to the MTOW choice of the original customer or can it be easily adjusted for the new customer?

I believe that the initial route for these aircraft will indeed be TATL from JNB to JFK.

I am really excited about this quick positive development from SAA, they are far from perfect but it is a pleasant change to hear some positive and exciting news from them.
Never be proud. Always be grateful.

Thus far, Hainan Airlines and Hong Kong Airlines have been taking 275t variant. I believe those ntu should be the same.

I thought Airbus can easily change the MTOWs with a software upgrade. It is just about the money.

To get to 280T depends if the airframe has already the structure changes or not (nose landing gear from the A35K, door frames, etc).

Well, that goes without saying. I was talking about for example SQ regional A359 with 251T MTOW becoming ntu and someone else getting that frame and they can get it at 275T MTOW with proper price. For 280T MTOW, all birds manufactured after the IBERIA/PR birds are capable of 280T MTOW should the airlines desire it.

So it really is just a software update as the aircraft itself are already built for 280T MTOW? If a customer wants a 251T MTOW frame, is this still possible seeing that all A350's are being built as 280T MTOW frames?

Are Air Mauritius genuinely walking away ("ntu") are are the leasing them to SAA? Genuine question. I have no idea.

Yes. For example, I believe JAL are taking A359s with 217T MTOW as they are ordered only for domestic routes. If they want to use them for longer routes, they can pay Airbus and they will update the software. The reason airlines take lower MTOW frames is that they know they will use them on shorter route so no need of high MTOW and that will save them money on airport fees as the fees are charge on MTOW of frames.

There’s now many photos of SA’s first A350 online and by the looks of it it seems the titles on the right (which starts after Door 1L) are more forward than the left (which start after the 4th window). Is that some sort of mistake?

Seems like it is the writing that is in different directions on either side of the aircraft. On the left the "South" is between door L1 and L2 and "African" after the door and from the right side "South" is before L2 and "African" is between L1 and L2.

Do you know when 226 went to SIN? How long did it take for the paint job?
