Yep, and looking at the schedule this week it looks like DL001 will be the 764 every day. I know there was a lot of talk on here about delays for EIS of the modded aircraft, and that folks were expecting EIS on ATL-LHR. It looks like this JFK trip is where the scheduled EIS took place.

By the way I flew in D1 on 1802 on one of its last flights before the mods. It was looking absolutely tired, with dirt and grime mashed into the widget on the tray table, and with the IFE really unresponsive. This refurbishment program is much needed.

Does anyone know why 777-200ER N864DA is going back and forth between ATL and LHR, as 9900s numbered flights.

its working the VS 104/103 segments. Probably some issue with the VS fleet and metal neutral JV partner is stepping in.

So, they’re not some ferry/repositioning flights? They’re carrying passengers?

But the retrofitted N831MH operating JFK-LHR was a 'one-off' only for the 16 and 17 Nov (it went JFK-LHR on 16 Nov and then LHR-JFK on 17 Nov and has since been sitting at JFK). The EIS for the first three routes with the retrofitted 764s have all been delayed:

DL30 ATL-LHR originally scheduled Nov 12 has been delayed till Nov 20
DL1 JFK-LHR originally scheduled Nov 16 did start on Nov 16 but then reverted to the old 764 for about a week; it will only start on a continuous basis on Nov 23
DL58 BOS-LHR originally scheduled Nov 20 has been delayed till Dec 3

Good info panamair and thanks so much for the clarification. The DL website and app are so clunky to tab through for the configuration that I (wrongly) assumed that once I saw the 764 listed that it was always the new configuration.

Why does DL have so many spares in the schedule? Are they out of service due to a reduced schedule? Are they intended to serve as backup for other widebody aircraft in service?

DL's winter widebody schedule requires ~25 less frames than its summer schedule. Hence the slack in usage. Some of these frames go through scheduled heavy checks, some cabin upgrades, some winter storage and the rest are just floating around the network with the average frame utilization rate substantially down during winter.

Yep - and on a net, fleet-wide basis, the US legacy airline business has always been heavily seasonal. Now that all three of the large international carriers have a business in the Pacific, the Atlantic, and Latin America, they are better able to balance the peaks and valleys than they used to be. But given the slowdowns from the US to Europe and the Mediterranean - and in US domestic - in the deep winter months, there is no other option than to shrink the operation. Brazil and Argentina can only soak up so much demand in January when most of the East-West operation is a ghost town. Three decades ago it was much worse for some airlines, as a carrier such as TWA had all those 747s an nowhere to use them when the Greece, Italy, and Spain markets dropped off in the winter.

Today, the airlines are pretty good at burning off flight attendant and pilot vacation liability in they winter while they send the heavies through the heavy maintenance and mod cycle.

Any updates from people in the know on MSP-PVG? I had thought it was supposed to launch spring 2020 if slots were available, and with AA returning some slots I think they are available. And they will have the airplanes, especially as the 14th A350 is already out on the flightline and another one is going into the production process. I would assume we would need an announcement fairly soon, though, if it is going to launch in the spring.

Looks like next 764 to CAN for mods is N837MH ship 1813; heading out 11/27 ATL-SEA-NRT-CAN.

Does the 764 not have the range to do ATL-NRT empty?

I saw N840MH today at ATL. I had a layover before my flight home and when we departed I got a,”kind of” good picture. Did it get retrofitted?
I’ll send it once I download it to my computer

I wonder how 764 mods take almost 2.5 months whereas 777 mods are completed in just a month, despite the 777 being much larger (not to mention that the Suites must be installed).

It's not just changing out the seats, the 764s are going through a heavier check than their 777 counterparts.

Then what was N840MH doing at ATL? It has been there since Nov 30th.

Is N171DN still being retired in January or is it also getting an H check in VQQ?
This plane is built to withstand anything... except a bad pilot.
