VH-EBE release seems delayed from qf789s post upthread.

Of more interest EBG has been flying domestic routes for over a week, and circling Brisbane in the last few days

And in last year's thread vorallenaj had suggested 2 more 747s would go in advance of these 787s.

You probably gain an aircraft when they complete the refurb on the 332s, but presumably something is giving space in the schedule.

interesting as i read that HNL was going back to A333 later in August then when OJU is being retired. Interesting times to se ehow they schedule their fleet

As I understand QFi has a massive peak over summer (long Aussie holidays and people wanting to holiday over the Aussie summer)
So it's an element of scheduling deliveries to meet demand (and thus yield)

Just flew SFO > MEL > SFO on the 787-9. Fabulous flights - great crew, great service, very comfortable aircraft. Outbound was in W and the inbound was J. Even the W seat was comfortable and I got a reasonable amount of sleep.

I was surprised that the 787s were not WiFi-equipped. Is the WiFi rollout domestic-only?

Current inflight internet rollout (different to WiFi IFE) is to the 75 737s and 10 332s only.
Uses the domestic only NBN SkyMuster Ka band satellites (so no service over Australian bight or Tasman Sea)

Qantas has reportedly signed a deal with ViaSat for its new Gen 3 satellites for global coverage (also on the quicker Ka band) but the launch of the European and US satellites isn't scheduled until 2021, and Asia sometime later.

On Tue 30th April, SYD-SFO QF73 is operating but there is no return flight scheduled. This is likely to be the retirement flight of VH-OEB, which is the next 744 to be retired.

OJU will be retired later in the year.

It certainly looks like it, also with an interesting schedule in SIN (0515 arrival, 1000 departure), obviously to meet the schedule needs in both ends and to escape from the curfew.

It's probably too soon to have a schedule, but could we see a return leg loaded once its ready to return to Australia?

Possibly. Or they could just send it back empty.

Latest AusBT article suggested that refurb won't start until July, so possibly just a repaint (or two) over June

The first 8 were repainted by Emirates in DXB but I don't think a contract for the remaining 4 (OQE, OQH, OQI, OQJ) has been announced.

Others may know more.
Be also good to get an update on the plan for the remaining 332s (EBG, EBM, EBN) as well as an update on Internet on the 737s. Seemingly been a few aircraft at a time sitting at SYD and BNE over Feb and Mar

(Possibly one of VZH VZJ - both had some downtime in Feb - VZH 10-16Feb BNE, VZJ 12-20Feb SYD)

VZG currently in BNE, VXP in SYD.
(I'd also think VYZ should really be listed as a shadow 'VZM')

My mistake, I counted incorrectly. 53 is the correct number of registrations in service with WiFi and is as listed above. VXP and VZG are both possibly undergoing WiFi installation in SYD and BNE maintenance respectively. VZH remains without WiFi.

VXQ returned to service yesterday (QF527 BNE-SYD) having undergone heavy maintenance and WiFi installation at BNE. Nothing too special about that, right... except that she has her retro nose cone back

Report on the Sydney Airport board from C Patters that EBG will be next and go in for refurb mid-May.

Combined with OEBs expected end-April retirement that will be the end of the line for SkyBed Is and Rockwell Collins IFE in the fleet

My guess is that Mendoorwoorji will be one of the last 737 to be repainted and they will probably replace the design with a new one on a newer aircraft (same as what they did with Mendoorwoorji replacing Yananyi).

I know it’s unlikely but it would be great to see an indigenous A380 as well, perhaps something tying in with the centenary (ie a theme of age/longevity or similar)

From other forums it's staying around for a while (possibly to end-May) thanks to both JQ (787 VKJ in NRT) and QF (332 EBP in SYD) having unscheduled issues
