The ROC webcam today showed a crane removing the jetway from UA Gate B6. Jetway is now off the gate. Anybody know what's going on? That was the gate that AirTran used when they started service to ROC in 2002.

The Diner and Bar are two of the latest examples of Monroe County bleeding money. Watching that project be stagnant for an entire month every single day was boarderline comical- then it seems like over night they were done. The diner does look absolutely fantastic- and a full service breakfast option at the airport is extremely welcome. The bar, however, looks pretty horrible. The floor section doesnt come off looking finished, the entire area is open with not a lot of clarity as to what exactly it is (as far as the restaurant area of it.) The bar itself though I must say is beautiful, but it is lacking still the “sports” aspect other than a few hung jerseys.

The highlight of the entire remodel is definitely the video game area. From 4am until 8pm every single day that area is packed, it almost would have made more sense for it to be larger and in the center of the concourse rather than sectioned off in the B gates.

I flew to boston on B6712 on saturday. I will write a more in depth update when I return on Thursday. But I completely agree that the sports bar just doesn't look good at all.

Replacing it- B10 is next once 6 is replaced. UA using B2 temporarily during the replacement (along with 8, 10, and 9 for when they have 4 RONs)

Ok, thanks! This morning the webcam shows the new jetway waiting to be installed, and the crane again.

Also, what's the Swift Air 734 at A9 about? Arrived over 14 hours ago, per FlightAware, if that's the plane.

Went to SYR then ACY. Happens every month or so. I think for Harrahs.

Southwest probably figured that if Syracuse could sustain twice weekly service to Nashville that they could too.

Sounds like ROC could use some once- or twice-weekly LCC or ULCC service to BNA. I suspect we could sustain a couple of weeklies to RDU, as well. Ahem Frontier.

Definitely nice to add Nashville to Buffalo direct flights starting in October ....... but on Saturdays only is kind of weird. How successful can that flight really be or how much of a chance are they giving it?

Atleast the times are okay.

WN did the same thing with DEN service. It could be they’re putting their toe in the pond to test the waters. They have a very proactive route planning team. If the 1x weekly proves successful frequency could increase.

Lets hope it does well! That would be a solid add route wise. I know SYR has an LLC that provides service to Nashville.

Best wishes to BUF with the WN Nashville flight. I see the Frontier 2x weekly BUF-RDU starts in May. Hoping that does well, too. Both BUF and ROC had Midway Airlines 3x daily to the airline's RDU hub on CRJ's back in 2001. The RDU area has grown since that time, and I would think a 2x weekly ULCC flight should easily stimulate enough traffic to fill a couple of A320's on O&D without a hub.

If Monroe County isn't pushing Frontier hard to enter ROC, they should be. If they can be in both SYR and ALB, with little population in between, that suggests--doesn't prove, but does suggest--that they can be in BUF, ROC, and SYR.

I think / hope WN can keep growing in Buffalo / BNIA. BNA was not what I was expected, I actually expected St Louis. That has been mentioned before to the media

I did not see F9 bringing back RDU in May! Thank you for that little bit of news. The seat utilization for f9 BUF - RDU was decent last summer.

Sept 2018 - 60% Seat utilization
Aug 2018 - 90%
July 2018 - 89%
June 2018 - 88%
May 2018 - 81%
April 2018 - 78%

SYR would do well to bring in some folks from PHX to train the volunteers. Sky Harbor has some excellent, helpful, friendly volunteers. It's been named the Friendliest Airport in the US for good reason.

I went to book my flight back to BUF for June and I noticed that AA up-gauged one of the BUF-ORD flights to an A319,
AA has not had mainline on ORD-BUF since before 9/11.
Looks like one of the BUF-CLT flights was downgauged to a CR9 to compensate...

AA is upguaging an ORD-SYR-ORD RON flight to a 738 starting in April as well.

This was discussed earlier in the thread, but what wasn’t discussed is that now it appears that it will only last until the beginning of June .

Went and looked through AA's booking system again and it appears that the 738 will now be doing the ORD-SYR-ORD route, that RONs overnight, from April 3rd onward through the end of the current available schedule which is January 2020.

Looking through JetBlue’s schedule update it appears they’ve gotten rid of SYR-FLL and pushed the late afternoon SYR-JFK back an hour.

That’s unfortunate , the flight seemed full when I was on it. Maybe when the A220 comes on board they’ll restart it again.

The part about B6 ending SYR-FLL is nothing new as that has always been a seasonal route with SYR-JFK and SYR-MCO being year-round. G4 flies SYR-FLL year-round however along with PIE, SFB and soon to be SRQ.

I’ve noticed lately that G4 has been parking at gate 5 instead of gate 11, its’ usual gate. Now with SYR-FLL ending here at the end of April that gets rid of a B6 plane RONing at gate 12. So I’m wondering if the airport has made a deal with WN and they’re moving things around to accommodate them at gates 11 and 12.

The real problem I've had with Chick Fil A (not having one in upstate until last year) was that I would fly to DEN and back regularly, and always on Sunday. So no Chick Fil A for me.

Yeah for an airport with like 5 places to eat, this space should go to something local and better; and not generic (albeit good) fastfood that isn't open one of the busiest travel days of the week.

Hi guys, this is my first time posting in here and Upstate NY is definitely not my turf but since I will have to travel somewhat regularly to the Ithaca area in the future, I read about the airport a little and stumbled upon this article on the CBP facility there:
https://ithacavoice.com/2019/03/immigra ... -facility/
I was under the impression that it wasnt up for discussion anymore and rather be done soon from reading other sources. How realistic do you guys think an Air Canada Express link to Toronto or Montréal are? It'd be great for connections to Europe (which are somewhat limited now with the detours via DTW, PHL or IAD or in my case even CLT due to the downsizing of PHL) and with pre-clearance the one guy CBP shouldnt be an issue.

Also, with the upcoming expansion, is there a realistic chance of seeing JFK or EWR come back (not too optiistic about EWR with the shift down to IAD happening so recently)

Well, in order to become an international airport the facility needs customs and border services, even if it is going to be staffed by just one guy. All in an effort to allow chartered international flights and private jets to fly directly to Ithaca instead of having to stop elsewhere first for customs inspection.

While this is also an attempt to attract scheduled international service to Toronto I see this as unlikely due to the fact AC already ran small B1900’s to both ROC and SYR without success and pulled those flights last fall. The likelihood of a Toronto flight out of Ithaca is also hampered due to the Toronto airport getting slot controlled soon. So airlines aren’t going to ‘waste’ valuable slots to fly puddle jumpers to the likes of ROC, SYR and ITH.

In the end ithaca will probably see a pickup in NYC flights before anything else.

Wtf? They’re removing Chick-Fil-A because they’ve been labeled an anti-LGBTQ company by mob rule and so they don’t want to lease space to the ‘hateful’ Christians. The NFTA probably have no problem supporting a company that donates to LGBTQ organizations though. I see, it’s ok to disenfranchise one group’s protected beliefs because sexual orientation is more protected than religion. When constitutionally all beliefs should be allowed to exist equally. No one is forcing you to patronize a chick-fil-a. The building will still be there regardless if there is a chick-fil-a. The public funding builds the building and the leased space is remodeled with Delaware North’s money to turn it into a chick-fil-a. People need to stop being offended by everything. Your life isn’t ruined because you had to walk past a chicken sandwich shop.

Chick fila is good for what you get ...... and mom and pop shops/ restaurants dont really work for airports. This would have been a good add restaurant wise. I would guarantee you it would be popular at the airport. Its a shame politics got in the way. Where these people when the first one opened around Buffalo? Didnt hear a single word / complaint but since its in the airport its all of sudden talked about? ( I tend to stay away from the game call politics and think its a waste of energy to pay attention to)

When eating a chick fila or any restaurant .... i am not thinking about politics while I am eating. I am thinking about what sauce to dip my nuggets into.

I thought I read that AA was bringing mainline on ROC-PHL. Currently we have 6 PDT E-145's on the route. That's 300 seats. I now see no mainline to PHL.

Yes it’s been pulled from the schedule.

Looks like AA and UA are chopping their basic fares down to match F9 on SYR-ORD over the summer. On Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays you can find basic one-way fares to ORD from $70-$90 on all three carriers.

So using June 20th as a booking date, Delta will be running for their ROC originators a 739 (ATL), 319 (MSP), 717 (DTW), CR9 (JFK) and E75 (LGA) from ROC. That’s the most morning capacity they’ve ever had.

Also, important to note, Delta has officially started using flight numbers 3XXX for mainline routes from DTW and MSP to cities. I believe the flight number for ROC-DTW this summer will be 3038, and it is not a filing error.

Now if they would just do the same to DEN next Christmas, but as I presume, F9 will discontinue DEN-SYR for the winter.

BNIA construction also includes expanding the airplane parking on the west side of the airport for more RONs. to be parked at night. Found that interesting because that was not talked about during the airport expansion upgrade.
