LOT is interested in international flights out of bnia

I find that very interesting, but not totally out of the question. Would their 737Max have the range to do the flight (once they are flying again) or would a larger aircraft be necessary?

CO/UA had some trouble with a 752 on EWR-TXL, which is 400 miles shorter. It could do it, but fuel stops were common in the winter.

Yeah, then that is doubtful. LOT would have to use their 787-8s to make it work.

In interesting change from the OAG thread: UA ORD-ROC JAN 4>2[4] reduction to a frequency of 2 is significant (maybe these will be mainline?)

It was reverted back to 4. Of interesting note, however, it appears that in January instead of running 4X CRJ’s like UA normally does for some reason, the 6am and 5pm departures will be on the brand new EV E175’s in the new livery. That paint in afternoon winter snow should make for some great spotting opportunities.

I think what was most interesting from that report, and this weeks as well is that B6 appears to have gone back to 1X daily for BUF-MCO (expected after they added back in SYR) and it looks like they’re sticking with having BUF-JFK at 4X daily, which is the lowest I’ve ever seen it.

That will definitely look beautiful, unfortunately I won't be able to get any shots, as I am moving back to BOS in a week. But I have loved being part of ROC aviation over the last few years!

Interestingly B6 ran a Mint A321 N962JT on the BUF route all day yesterday, it is continuing on to other non mint routes today also.

B6 blamed airbus for their slow growth because their new planes / referbs are very behind. So this could be the reason behind it.

Yep, I commuted on that flight yesterday. Customers loved being on that plane, despite it being very delayed. No customers in Mint, but they got to walk through on their way to their seats. What a treat from the usual E190!

I believe BUF needs to permanently close gate 9 and temporarily close gate 11 for the expansion project.

ahh i didnt think of that. That is a good point. I was hoping it meant that f9 was going to add flights or something. Since they get front row parking. (Yes, I know its not actually front row parking, some sarcasm)

Anybody think upstate NY could get something out of it?

Possibly, but if it is a seasonal summer route, it could just be ending for the year.

It’s weird because F9 typically does their seasonal network switch in November, but this OAG report shows the route ending for the season in Oct.

Anybody know what is going on with Gate 3 at SYR? I've noticed over the last several days on the airport's live stream and verified through Flightaware Gate 3 go completely unused. This is normally B6's gate were they also RON a plane but they've changed to operate and RON only out of Gates 1 and 12. Does anyone know if this could just be lengthy maintenance on the jet bridge? I have not seen any maintenance vehicles drive around this gate however. Does anyone think this is a harbinger to another carrier coming to SYR?

Nevermind, it's maintenance. I just checked the live stream again and there's guys with trucks there playing around with the jet bridge.

After years of being stagnant and despite several network reductions, WN is finally adding winter service to ROC.

SAT only service to FLL begins in January for the winter season, as well as RSW starting a month and a half earlier than it did the last two years. With MCO, TPA, RSW, FLL and BWI Service, this is the most destinations and most daily flights WN has ever served from ROC. RSW and FLL will Be Saturday only while TPA and MCO will continue to be daily.

The only reduction on WN is MDW going from 2x daily to 1.8-9x. And PHX going from 1x to Weekend only. March is a partial month so you need to ignore that.
BWI actually increased from 4x to 5x YoY.

Probably short on block time because of the Max issue but had enough wiggle room to get more people to BWI to catch a connection instead.

So I was having a look at the Routes tab of Flightradar24 under KROC

I couldn't believe how much DL mainline has been at ROC this month and this week, on the DTW route 2 A319's and a CRJ, Mainline on JFK, etc...

Maybe ROCDLFAN can give us an update.

Yes, I'd noticed ROC is seeing a lot of DL mainline metal right now.

Tonight's RON's include: 712 from ATL; 712 from JFK; 319 from DTW; 319 from MSP. Plus an E75 from LGA.

No 738's, though. Is the runway construction underway?

My UA flight from SYR-ORD was changed from an A319 to an E175 in October and a CR2 for the return. I suppose this is trickle down from the Max groundings, but a very disappointing change, at least about the CR2. I'll fly the E175 all day. I just worry that this might mean the end of mainline at SYR for a long time. It has taken years to bring mainline back to SYR, and I'm skeptical that UA has the patience to develop the upstate NY market, despite their lofty domestic growth plans.

It looks like they were using 4/22 during the air show last weekend, but since then, they have been overhead coming in on 10/28.

Was glad to see the WN FLL flight to ROC. I got a great price on it, and direct to Miami area is terrific!

I checked the ROC website but couldn't find date information for the construction, which is listed on the 2019 construction and planning page.

Cosyr--hope you guys get your UA mainline back soon. I wonder what will be freed up, and what we'll see in Upstate, once the MAX's return to the air.

BUF folks, hope you get daily PHX back soon. I seem to remember that being one of WN's original routes to BUF back when they entered.

Here's a fun flight: why is an Allegiant A320 on its way from BFI to ROC?

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAY ... /KBFI/KROC

FlightAware showed a FedEx 763 departing Rwy 28 this morning, so apparently the 4-22 work won't keep them out. But I suspect they're taking a weight penalty.

From what I can tell, looks like it was ferried in to operate Flight 2371 to SFB, which was delayed almost 5 hours today: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAY ... /KROC/KSFB

Presumably the aircraft that was originally operating that flight went mechanical (said aircraft was eventually ferried to GRR: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAY ... /KROC/KGRR).

At one point, 2 of the daily flights were A319 or 73G/8's, so maybe to free up planes they upgauged one and downgauged the other. I just picked the wrong one.

The additional mainline have been a very welcome addition. Due to the runway construction, DL would rather operate 3X daily DTW with 2X mainline and 1X CRJ for operational efficiency, the exact same reason why JFK has been moved to mainline and E175. Unfortunately, after next week the JFK mainline and DTW mainline turn disappear, but the MSP and DTW morning mainline are staying, and the MD90 and 738 return for ATL.

It has been very interesting to see unfold. ROC has been handling 4-6 717’s a day for the last few weeks, despite the runway construction. The 717 is not a very good short field aircraft. With no auto breaks and the reverse thrust unable to deploy until the nose gear is on the ground, there have been several instances of “hot breaks.”

I also noticed on FR24 this morning that AA has brought back mainline to CLT though it appears to be operating on saturday's only. So far they have operated a A320 on 8/24, and today 8/31

They did convert it to an AA admiral lounge in mid-2013. The AA lounge remained for a little over 2 years. They closed the Buffalo and San Juan clubs on October 31, 2015.

Buffalo airport new Lounge is opening this week ..... from the sneak peak pictures from the Buffalo airport Instagram, it looks good. Not sure how much use this will get.

Refresh my memory- did AA ever convert the old US Club into an AAdmirals Club at any point? Or did they just close it after the merger? Nice to see the space back in use.

They did convert it to an AA admiral lounge in mid-2013. The AA lounge remained for a little over 2 years. They closed the Buffalo and San Juan clubs on October 31, 2015.

There’s been rumor about SYR Airport or an airline partner at SYR building a business lounge in the near future. Have you seen anything about that?

Mostly Business travelers who need additional workspace and quiet areas to concentrate. They’re a great place for conference calls and a place to relax in the event of delays which can occur especially in the winter months. Being open to all airline customers is a plus. The Frontier customers, who they probably aren’t targeting, won’t use it, but others will.

Lounges to business travelers are generally welcome sites and many companies pay the membership. Budget travelers do use them but they ,in most cases, are not willing to pay the fee, they want to save all they can on the airline side and a club is an added expense.

Okay but how often do people actually need to show up to BNIA early to get through security and wait? I can only see it in the morning and not so much the rest of the day.

The lounges are good for people with connecting flights, the problem is, Buffalo doesnt have that.

Lounges are selling points to help airlines get corporate contracts.

What's interesting to me about the newly opened The Club at BUF, they built it rather large and with showers. Having a good lounge is key to transatlantic service. So this may be preempting a potential service.

BDL for example opened the Escape Lounge around the time Aer Lingus began service. Though its not very big, and doesn't have showers.

In the past BDL had a Delta Crown room (Once DL moved to the east concourse it closed), and US/AA lounge in the A concourse but that has also closed. The Escape Lounge while small is very nice and AMX platinum card holders get access on any ticket. I have used it quite a bit, I don't really see a reason for it to need showers. Overall BDL see's quite a bit of biz travel along with the EI flight to DUB which biz class passengers have access to the Escape lounge with their ticket.

On a different note, The Club at BWI is tiny as well and very outdated. It almost seems as though it is a temporary facility and often there is a wait to get in. For an airport the size of BWI, it really needs better lounges.
