Yeah, I don't want to get too sanctomonious, but if I still lived in STL, I wouldn't be flying AA. DL and WN both have a much better product. AA seems to think they can become an ULCC domestically and still command legacy yields, and that just isn't going to happen.

My thoughts exactly! Lol

Looking like AS is doing a big pullback at SAN. At least 6 cities cut. SFO losing some also.

Oh What a bummer!

My dad flew that route a couple of times.

Either SY will announce, or Southwest will add another flight?

Does Frontier fly to SAN? Maybe a STL-SAN?

They do but probably not going to happen since they just blew their lunch money on EWR on basically every route WN had and then some. I’d be down for WN adding another one but probably not until the MAX is back.

Thanks. Guess it's just down to WN. They'll make a killing on that route, probably jacking up fares. It could look like a mini version of STL-BOS. Then again, they did go down to 1x daily recently on some days, but that's MAX related.

Got this info from Justin Meyer (KC airport person)

Should give somewhat of an idea what actual passenger growth might be. And keep in mind AUG-NOV would have been high if the MAX was in the air.

STL seat increase by month YOY:
AUG19 +2.2%
SEP19 +4.7%
OCT19 +3.8%
NOV19 +2.5%
DEC19 +9.7%*

*Does not (yet) reflect MAX grounding

KC for comparison.

AUG19 -3.2%
SEP19 -4.1%
OCT19 -5.0%
NOV19 -7.0%
DEC19* - 1.8%

*DEC19 does not (yet) include MAX cuts

You gotta think w/o the MAX cuts STL would be up 6-10% this year. Like I've said, I think it will be interesting to see how WN responds once the planes are back in the air.

Awesome, yet so sad!

So many memories of flying out of STL on the MD80, between TWA, Delta and AA.

How appropriate that it's an ex TWA Plane. I hope that was on purpose, and if not..great coincidence!

Looks like UA is finally getting rid of the E175s this winter on STL-SFO. Starting Oct 27 the route becomes a combination on a319s,738s and 739s. Probably their longest route on e175s.

It is just too bad it is only once a day. I had heard they were badly load restricted going west in winter on the E175.

A few notes from the airport commission meeting that I have gotten so far.

2 new Cargo flights: 1st starts September 12 on 767 (prime air?) and 2nd in October.

Chili’s in T2 is becoming a Blues bar.

Another restaurant is either going to be new or redone in C.

It is a replacement also. Not sure what restaurant though.

Personally, I don’t love the trend of airports adding all local restaurants or concepts. I think some are good, especially when it is local beer, but I think you need at least some national chains also. The last two times I had layovers (MDW/OAK) I had enough time to get something semi quick and had no clue what any of the restaurants were. Oakland just got rid of all their chains. If I have a hour+ layover then sure local is great but when I need something fast, I want something I know that I don’t have to think about (McDonald,Wendy’s,Chick-fil-A,bread co, chipotle, etc). I’m not losing sleep over the chili’s in T2 though. It was rough. I’d like to see Burger King replaced with a different fast food. Keep Cali pizza, Dunkin, starbucks, and Auntie Anne’s. Add another fast food and another fast casual known chain. Sit down restaurants can stay local.

I’ll be curious to see what other changes host makes.

Royal Air Force is going to do a flyby with smoke over downtown (the arch) tomorrow around 1030 if you happen to be downtown during the day.

Found this gem on tripadvisor

Minnesota-based Sun Country Airlines (SY) is a leader in leisure travel flying nonstop to more than 50 destinations across the United States, Caribbean, Mexico and Central America. The airline has a hub at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), and has focus cities that include Portland, Nashville, Dallas-Fort Worth, St. Louis, Madison and Providence. The airline has an all-economy cabin with three seating types: Best, Better and Standard seats. Best seats are in the forward section of the cabin and come with extra legroom, a moveable headrest, extra recline, USB charging ports and standard AC power outlets, preferred boarding and a complimentary premium beverage. Better seats in the middle of the plane include additional legroom. Most Standard and Better seats also include USB charging ports. Amenities vary by aircraft. All passengers receive a complimentary non-alcoholic beverage and access to a free in-flight entertainment system.

That would explain the high frequency of route announcements here

Although at the same time Madison has like 2 and a half routes

It's all in the execution. I work for a local restaurant conceptual group and we retain oversight over our airport concepts, even though they're operated by a third party, for exactly that reason.

The restaurants in Lambert are not well managed. The employees don't care, the food quality is bad, and they're a terrible value for what you get, even by extortionate airport standards. There's one in particular in C that's terrible compared to its legit counterparts.

I for one would love it if Lambert had a Steak 'n Shake (or a White Castle).

When I visit family in St. Louis, Steak 'n Shake is always a place I go to!

Sadly, airport dining these days is going toward expensive I-pad order places -- see the "OTG Experience" at UA hubs like EWR and IAH..

The Southern version of White Castle, Krystal had an ATL location for years. The fact that its no longer there may tell you something! Though I have no reliable information of why Krystal left ATL, lease was up maybe?

If you are in the mood for some pre-flight digestive distress in Atlanta, there’s still a Varsity on C.

Good to know, thanks. Usually when I fly "things slow down" so if I need to "get things moving" there's a viable option.
