According to dpts.org twitter account (November 4th post), Air Mauritius will switch its Geneva-Mauritius flight from an A330-900neo to an A350, because "Performance issues out of Geneva in case of engine failure restricts the aircraft to runway 04".
In another tweet on November 8th, it says that "the airline has found a solution regarding take-off weight out of Geneva with the Airbus A330-900neo. Cargo will be offloaded if necessary".

As GVA runway is significantly longer than average (3900 m) and almost at ground level (421 m), what is exactly the problem here? If an A330-900neo can't take-off at MTOW with a 13'000 ft. runway, where can it do it?

HB-JNK, the 11th 77W of LX, made it to ZRH this morning on direct delivery flight from PAE.
Any ideas how they are going to use this extra capacity until the two new routes to IAD and KIX will be inaugrated in spring?

Hope they are going to refurbish the last A343!

Runway 04 is towards lake geneva. So the (one engine out?) restrictions could maybe because of the mountains? To the left you have the Jura mountains (up to 1'700m) and to the right there are the swiss and french alps (2'000 - 4'800m). Directly to the left and right of 04 the mountains are up to 1'500 - 1'700m.

Could be... But concerning the mountains, they come sooner in the opposite direction (towards SW). And there are bigger twins than A333 taking off from Geneva, for example Emirates' twice daily B77W. And lots of A330ceo... Could the A330neo be weaker than the ceo on one engine?

I suspect it's not a matter of weakness but rather weight. How heavy are all the other twins departing from GVA compared to a MK A330 heading to MRU? Also, how manoeuvrable is the aircraft flying on one engine at such climbing speed, low altitude in a mountainous terrain? If the flight takes off westward, there's a wall to the right a less high mountain forward and another to the left. If there's an engine failure before the rather usual U-turn how easily will the aircraft be handled in such environment?

Upgauging TLV mainly, which is already happening. Otherwise I can't share it with you just yet.

I'm sure this is highly welcomed especially by the US-bound travellers. Nowadays, the only two other Euro-carrier with widebody in TLV are BA (351/777) and TK (pretty much everything; 332/333/789/77W on some of the more than 10 daily flights).

In regards to upgauge to 77W, I could only find NRT starting from 1FEB:
LX 160 D ZRH NRT 1 1300 0830+1 0 01FEB20 28MAR20 77W 11:30
LX 161 D NRT 1 ZRH 1125 1540 0 02FEB20 28MAR20 77W 12:15

FR24 data shows Air Europa, Iberia, Virgin Atlantic and Aeroflot also operating WBs to TLV.

Aviation portals here in Serbia are reporting that Air Serbia will be introducing BEG-GVA next summer, three times per week. Will be interesting to see how easyJet responds. If this turns out to be true, BEG-Switzerland will have 52 weekly flights next summer served by four airlines.

They announced BEG-GVA flights 2 years ago, only to cancel them 3 weeks later, before they even went on sale. I wouldn't read too much into this report but of course they're welcome here.

Circumstances have changed since then starting with the fact that Etihad is no longer running the show. Mind you, this year they launched a whole bunch of new destinations from Belgrade: Helsinki, Krasnodar, Barcelona, Madrid, Nice, Zadar... so adding Geneva makes sense especially given the size of Serbian diaspora in Switzerland.

I don't know whether they have off loaded cargo, but tonight's flight MK59 operated with a A339 has departed from runway 22 and is climbing much faster than the last time they used the A340 on the route.

It's particularly windy tonight in GVA, hence the easy departure from runway 22.

I can't remember but those last few days it was a thing, especially today, a lot of planes had to divert.

Currently there also seems to be constantly one A333 at AMM for maintenance (what a a discrace that LX uses JORAMCO, who more than once performed fault works on the aircraft). Hence it seems for the moment LX uses the additional B77W as a buffer for two aircraft that are constantly out of service through which TLV is upgauged.

six new LX routes announced from GVA for upcoming summer season:
one weekly flights each to AYT, DJE, DBV, MAH, PDL and RHO on Airbus A220-300.

https://www.routesonline.com/news/38/ai ... rk-in-s20/

the highlight is probably the PDL flight with more than 4 hrs. flight time.

Were you not allowed to share the downgrade on LX252/3 to A32S starting Summer 2020? (Obviously not you to blame ;) The route is doing so well, LX even manages to fill the 77W's and overbooking them in addition there is a lot of cargo on the route. The A32S are just not made to operate such long flights, both for premium passengers and as we all know also the galleys... I hope a better solution will be found for this in the future. I know that at the end of the day the Long haul planes used for TLV are spare for long haul operation, but then it would better to have a clear disclaimer that the route is operated under normal circumstances with long haul equipment but a downgrade to short haul equipment on short notice can happen at any time.

They have done that every year at the same period for the past 5 years or so.

@LXA340 ; Usualy the louder the forummembers are, the fewer they really know. Some info simply is confidential and like many members I'm here for fun, not to put my job at risk ;)
I know exactly what is going on with many topics within certain companies, but simply can't share all of it with the general public.

ps. HB-JNL is scheduled for delivery today ex PAE, arriving in ZRH tomorrowmorning (LX7531)

DALCE of course I fully respect that and that's also what a loyal employee should do :) Anyhow a shame that TLV will loose long haul equipment, but even LH made that change although they could fill B744 / A346's double daily on that route. Neverheless I hope it will not have impact on the premium / high yielding connecting traffic which at the time switched from LH to LX (stayed within the group), considering the many options you have from TLV including BA and TK to mention a few.

I read today that ICN supposedly plans to release more slots next year, maybe the desired Slot for LX will free up...I guess by downgrading TLV on both flights to A32S (which seems to be the case per LX website as of Winter 20/21) and somehow adding another Aircraft (Maybe an A343 from LH) the route can be added.
