Thats the point everyone keeps missing! They dont have any spare aircraft, so to upgrade EDI means a downgrade or cancellation somewhere else. Also, the 757s are still reasonably good aircraft, and are not quite ready for retirement yet. To remove it from EDI, they need to re-assign it somewhere else. It's not all about what EDI needs.

I believe the current plan is to use the 737 MAX10 across the Atlantic once the 757s are retired, so you're probably more likely to see these at EDI rather than a 777.

It's still operating. Tuesdays and Saturdays, EDI-DUB only (no return, as it operates PEK-EDI-DUB-PEK).

The return flight, PEK-DUB-EDI-PEK operates on Thursdays and Sundays.

I remember reading somewhere Qatar doing a double daily trial in April, is Edinburgh ready for a double daily service? Surely EK must have ate a bit away from Qatar?

Im also wondering how much of an effect the emirates Edinburgh flight has had on its Glasgow operations?

Wizzair rumoured on local radio to be starting 4 new routes from Edinburgh in Novemeber, these are supposedly Warsaw, Bucharest and Hungary (no destination specified), any ideas as to waht other routes may be announced?

It was only a matter of time Wizzair starting their operations. I do wonder if in a few months time if they'll pull out of Glasgow and consolidate at Edinburgh instead.

How do you know the flights have been “almost full”?

Just because a flight is full, doesn’t mean it’s truly profitable.

It really is worthwhile checking the stats and as I said on another thread to you, in June they were pretty full:

JFK - 95%
ORD - 92%
EWR - 92%
IAD - 86%
BOS - 90%
PHL - 88%

Not bad going really. I’ll post July when they are out as I believe they are better.

Most of the passengers will be connecting, although a small amount are tourists from wherever the flight originates and of course Scotland.

And in Response to Wizzair announcing their new routes to Budapest, Bucharest, Warsaw and Gdansk, Ryanair have added extra flights this winter to Budapest, Warsaw and Gdansk and have added a new route to Bucharest. So much for the base being cut!

Given BOS, albeit a focus city is NOT a Delta hub, isn''t Boston stronger on point to point? That was part of the rationale for the route I understand.

Maybe growth will slow down, but I still think EDI would be fine and do much better than its neighbour, GLA. We have heard of quite a few announcement on new routes and expansion to the existing route, EDI is actually doing quite well.

As of now, both routes are loaded into the system up until March 2020 (=they will operative simultaneously). I presume Wizz Air will decide a later stage how to deal with their flights to Glasgow, once they have more transparency on EDI forward bookings and their impact on BUD-GLA.

I went to EDI for the first time in about 7 years last week. My god, what a mess. What they need is a new terminal. The current one is far too small and crowded for its requirements. Appreciate August is a busy month for EDI, but even so. Typical British short term outlook of quick fix extensions. And arriving in the Departures lounge through all the shops - what’s that about?! So crowded!

They could build a brand new terminal over the site of the old runway and current cargo apron, which would be adjacent to the railway too so EDI could have direct access/connections to the Scottish rail network.

Any chance it would ever happen??

I didn't say they shouldn't have shops. I just said it was odd the route from aircraft to arrivals is quite odd going through Departures where the shops are.

I didn't say they shouldn't have shops. I just said it was odd the route from aircraft to arrivals is quite odd going through Departures where the shops are.

That's only domestic flights, but its a good thing as I always get some tax free shopping done whenever you're in the terminal

United and Edinburgh Celebrated 15 years of service with a marketing meeting and breakfast, Hopefully something good cane out of it, looks like the model aircraft on show was a B767-300.

2 new routes announced today:
· EasyJet add new 2x weekly Verona from 7th December, flights are on Tuesday and Saturdays.
· Ryanair add new 2x weekly Bydgoszcz service from March 2020.

It's just a aviation enthusiast/plane spotter rumour, there is absolutely no substance to it whatsoever.

With the current situation in Hong Kong and also at Cathay Pacific I can't see them expanding their presence in the United Kingdom with the addition of EDI.

CX currently serves United Kingdom quite well with LHR 5 daily flights, LGW and MAN each with daily flights, that's a total of 7 daily flights. Any traffic to HKG can be handled with connections by BA via LGW or LHR from EDI.

When people say that they ''heard'' rumours it's always makes me rather alarmed as I'm sure that those ''so called'' rumours are totally fictional with absolutely no substance behind them.

CX just suspended Dublin, very little chance they will go to Edinburgh in the near future. Also good to see Turkish have subbed in A330-300 TC-JOF on the Istanbul flight, nice change from the B737.

What a bizzare route! Its good but at the same time, surely Virgin Trains, Cross Country Trains, Flybe etc all compete on this

I've always found EDI security to be amongst the fastest and most efficient of any airport. I've never spent more than 5 minutes queuing for security at EDI, even first thing in the morning when they are queued all the way back to the barriers. On the other hand, I spent an hour queuing at MAN recently, and Heathrow T5 almost always takes 15-20 minutes.

It took me 32 minutes to go through the fast track last Sunday. It’s very inconsistent at EDI. It’s my home airport, I go through it 17 times a month. It is the worst security that I have to go through in Europe. The previous EDI security was much better. It’s a fundamental design flaw, it’s a long and narrow hall. It should be a short and wide hall, just like most other airports. It’s also mismanaged by the staff there on a daily basis. It’s one of EDIs biggest failures in the last decade, along with parking, drop off, and airside infrastructure (its lagged behind the increase of long haul aircraft). Management at EDI know that security is a problem, that’s why a few people lost their jobs over it. But cost will mean that we are stuck with it for years to come.
