LATAM Airlines Unveils Stunning New Cabin Product

Wed Jan 02, 2019 8:30 pm

At last! LATAM will upgrade its cabin products.

The airline will spend +$400 million retrofitting old 767s and newer 777/787/A350s with the new product.

This is a huge upgrade for Latin America's market. Can't wait to test it.

Great for business class , bad for coach. You will see more comfortable seats with actual padding and weight be replaced with thin no cushion seats. I would rather take the old tired seats , they might not look as pretty but are way more comfortable on long flights! Padding can't be replaced by seat features.

Yes, they even returned one from storage (PT-MUI) recently, repainted in the new Latam scheme.

I've never flown premium class but in the second pic at the source, those two seats are awfully close, no? Is that usually how the seating is up there?

You mean the seats next to each other? (As opposed to closeness front to back.) They are pretty close for business class but I think the idea is that there actually are people who travel together in business class, and in a lot of configurations they have no way to talk to each other. ANA, for example, has a staggered 1-2-1 layout also, but they stagger every seat so that every row is an exact mirror image of the other. In other words, there are no seats together - they're just on opposite sides in each row. My wife and I have flown that and it's kind of annoying because even if you get seats "together" in the center section, you basically have to lean way forward and then yell to the other side of the section.

This seems like it would have 25% of all business class seats as directly adjacent. I'm sure that's more than the number of people traveling together in business class, but there's obviously a partition you can pull up (you can see the slot for it) so that would offer privacy.

Their custom seat (Thompson) is based on the Vantage XL honeymoon option. Some seats will be close, but that is the idea...
(Not saying I am a fan of that)

Looks great, looks like the same design company that South Africa used? From a style perspective whilst not the same looks like similar usage of colour and texture intervowen around the vantage seats to link in with branding.

I trust you will get to ride in J class one day, its a lovely way to travel.

It's actually not bad when next to a stranger, since a partition (see the vertical crack) allows for it to be raised (for privacy) or kept down (for interaction). When I get settled in my seat I hit the button and raise it when traveling by myself. Reverse Herringbone (CX, AA, VA etc) are angles towards each other and even though you are on either aisle you can see the other person, so the partition goes up.

They had one direction to go. That would be up. I'm not wowed in any fashion by the photos. We shall see. Proof will be in the pudding as they say.

Business Class reminds me of the new A380 SQ product, I flew Latam in business class this year on the 787, it was okay.

Business class is the most interesting here. It's not clear how they're going to keep the corrugated plastic around the seats clean, as cleaning crews have only so much time to wipe down each ridge. Another concern is whether it will be possible to lower the armrests of the seats so as to have the most horizontal room possible. I've slept in a similar type of seat, and it always feels like I'm lying in a coffin. It's nice, though, that they make your bed out for you. Economy appears nice on the surface, but the seats look hard and narrow, as others have suggested.
