The capacity is needed intra-hub right now.

Vasu Raja mentioned multiple times that they might make Rome almost year-round from ORD next year but he couldn't confirm anything yet.

We at least know BCN will resume in April next year.
I would be surprised if ATH gets the season extended out of ORD before PHL.

If we can have little Prague and Budapest from both PHL and ORD in October then we can have Athens too.
Detroit313 wrote:Delta just announced that it will expand the season for Athens from New York. They will fly the route from April 1st until the end of October. That's 7 months.
AA should fly the route for 7 months too. Whether from Philadelphia, Chicago or both.
The flights have been packed all season. ORD - ATH has probably been one of the greatest success stories for AA in the past few years when it comes to new routes.

And AA should launch PHL-NCE/AGP/PDL/GLA/CPH/HNL and DL should launch JFK-CMN/DBV/MAN to match each other, right?
And BA should launch 2x daily LHR-DTW because DL is flying 2x daily DTW-LHR?

We are talking about the length of competitive routes that they both already fly. Same destination. Existing route. Length of seasons. Your post is completely irrelevant.

On another note, the increase South Pacific flying in coop with QF supposedly should be announced this month (Oct).

American Airlines will bring the 777-200ER to ORD-LHR effective March 29.

I know AA has stated that the reconfiguration of the 788 fleet down to C20 has been problematic on ORD-LHR. It does not have enough premium seats so they have had to send business to their competitors because AA is sold out. This why the brought in a 789 to ORD this summer and bringing in a 772 in the spring.

AA will still call it Flagship Service with a LUS 321 no less. And you wonder why Parker's job is allegedly in jeopardy.

Except on the booking page on AA.com they no longer have the label "Flagship" displayed on the (very expensive) F fares.
I guess AA isn't worried at all about jetBlue and their Mint service up the road at FLL.

They are definitely worried, hence the A321Ts trial.
Plus Delta will inevitably be entering the market, and I bet with DeltaOne.

If you are "definitely worried" you don't dump your last flight with lie-flats in favor of the standard 321s and have NO lie-flat flight on a "high premium demand" route.
The 321T "trial" doesn't seem like a trial at all. It's for less than a month (Dec 19 - Jan 6), over a non-typical travel period.Seems more like they wanted to pour more premium seats into the market for the Christmas / New Year's holiday period.
