Spirit signs MOU for 100 320NEO family, plus 50 purchase options.

Nice to see the a319NEO pick up some, although numbers not indicated.

Spirit signs memorandum of understanding with Airbus to add a mix of Airbus A319neo, A320neo, and A321neo aircraft to continue Spirit’s growth and sustain one of the youngest, most fuel-efficient fleets in the U.S.

Wow!
What shall I say...
Just...Wow!

And if I now just think of all of these orders, which are announced for Airbus, pending to be firmed and where I expects they will be firmed till end of this year; 2019 will be at the end a good year for the Airbus order backlog.

More then twice as many new orders in September alone then they booked in the previous nine months, there have been worse months when it comes to orders.

Are the last two new EI 330ceos listed under undisclosed? If so, why is it not under EI or IAG? Is it technically someone else’s order and EI is buying them once delivered?

That was Starlux, they now have 9 A350-900 and 8 A350-800 on order.

Another change in the A350 order book was that an order for 1 A350-900 was transferred from ACG (Aviation Capital Group) to Asiana Airlines.

Doubtful seeing as these were known about earlier in the summer, and both frames well on in assembly process, one frames has engines fitted! would IAG/Airbus really wait this late in the process to firm up and add to order book? Would this not have happened when MSNs were applied to orders way back when?

But that's only my assumption so definitely open to being corrected on this one!

Wow. The IndiGo order included amazing 213 A321neos.
A total of 301 A321neos, including 77 (+ an unknow numbers from the IndiGo order tbd) for the XLR.
What a runaway success the A321neo is.

Total sales for the NEO family now is ... 7058 frames.

Now lets see if the Spirit and Air Arabia 100-units orders will be added to the backlog this year, and how many A321neos they will include.

300 A321 orders in one month... of which 70 odd known A321XLR plus however many Indigo ordered.
Spirit still to come?

For most of the year I have expected the NEO backlog to fall this year, but we could see Airbus deliver approaching 650 A320 family and still grow the backlog in 2019. Impressive.

The 13 XLR plus 12 339 were presumed to be Air Asia. Add 30 XLR identified above would make 43 XLR total for them.

Not sure the undisclosed 13 A321 and 12 A339 are Air Asia as the additional orders announced recently are covered already (12 A339 in Sept and 30 A321 in Oct). 12 A339 for a new airline would be good news.

Looks like IndiGo also converted 35 of their previous A320 order to A321 as the new total is 398 on order and the A320 order is reduced. A number of conversions from A320 to A321 for other airline during the month as well.

And the NEO backlog stands at 6,029, of which 2,900 are A321 (48%) and 3,100 are A320 (51%)

They are just about there with the 50/50 split

Possible that Air Asia X will be the final user though.

Lufthansa appears to have cut it´s commitment for 34 B777-900 down to 20+14, converting 14 of the "commitments" (reads like these were re-confirmable firm orders) into options:

Some time ago LH said they’d probably ordered too many 777s and too few A350s. While the 14 were never firm enough to be booked by Boeing, I guess they’re even softer now.

It is a little confusing because they always had only 20 orders for the 777-9, since the original announcement many years ago. They did commit for up to 34 but only ever firmed 20. I understand this newest development means the commitment for the remaining 14 is converted into options for 14. Whether they will exercise them remains to be seen. But with LH nothing is ever certain.

How firm are the 20 confirmed? Article was vague on how many they will actually take...guess it's not unheard of for carriers to alter or reconfigure their order portfolio.

GE unit orders 25 Airbus jets including 12 Rolls-powered A330neo

reuters.com/article/us-airbus-gecas/ge-unit-orders-25-airbus-jets-including-12-rolls-powered-a330neo-sources-idUSKBN1XI0UI

This order is already included in the Airbus October numbers as UFO.

So GECAS orders 12 RR engined A330-941.

It is also interesting to note, that the A330neo has with 50 net orders so far this year, including the 16 frame Cebu order, more orders than the 787 this year.

The A330 program as a whole has due to 5 A330-200 cancellations 45 net orders.

A320-neo orders
TIGERAIR TAIWAN 22-Oct 7

UNDISCLOSED 22-Oct 13
JETSMART 30-Oct 12
WIZZ AIR HUNGARY 30-Oct 20
INDIGO 31-Oct 213

October may mark the turning point where A320n orders will forever be fewer than A321n orders.
Total Net orders for 2019 now stand at 157 A320n to 382 A321n.

2 A220-300 for Air Tanzania

Early for airbus famous fourth ( fifth) quater . Is there more to come.

There is still the Dubai Air Show to come, and we won't have too long for it …

This order is already included in the Airbus October numbers as UFO.

So GECAS orders 12 RR engined A330-941.

It is also interesting to note, that the A330neo has with 50 net orders so far this year, including the 16 frame Cebu order, more orders than the 787 this year.

The A330 program as a whole has due to 5 A330-200 cancellations 45 net orders.

Forgive me for being slow but I thought GECAS only ordered aircraft with GE engines. I know they did a purchase and lease back deal on some A350s but I don't think they ever ordered them outright. There was a shift in policy?

October may mark the turning point where A320n orders will forever be fewer than A321n orders.
Total Net orders for 2019 now stand at 157 A320n to 382 A321n.

What really is astonishing is the ratio 29% to 71%. At the moment the total orders should be around 50% to 50%, but at this rate that will quite skewed in the favor of the higher end A321. What is not completely clear for me is that amount or percentage of swaps/upgrades from A320 to A321. Even if that is something like 10% it will have a big impact...

I would assume they already have a customer for the frames and that this isn’t a speculative order.

Please note, do not overestimate the A321 Neo family orders, we now see here. We see here most orders for the A321 Xlr (and additional LR, which are just stated as A321 Neo)) orders and not or only low numbers of regular A321 Neo (so not LR or Xlr) orders. Just remind, a A321 Neo LR is just a regular A321 Neo which has got the ability/preparation, to implement 3 additional tanks instead of only 2. It was said prior/I have read earlier end of last and this year, that there can/will be a demand of around 10 to 15% A321 LR and up to 10 to 15% A321 Xlr. So that at the end up to 20 to 30% of all A321 Neo family jets will be the longer and long range versions. This gap in the demand will be now filled, so the airlines are now just ordering these jets, which are still missing in their fleets.
When this gap will have been filled, it is possible we will see again a 50 to 50 distribution for the A320 and A321 Neo orders.

There is speculation that GE (in financial trouble) may sell off GECAS. If that were the case, they'd no longer necessarily favour GE engines. This may be the first sign of that.

I'm not disagreeing, Steve, and I hope you're right but 12 is a lot of frames to place with a single customer.

Unless it's - oh, I don't know - Delta.........?

I wondered about Cebu and / or Virgin topping up their firm orders at Airbus with some leases.

Read some where here regarding the 5 A330-200 cancellation, just in case any one of you are wondering it was from Jet Airways. Cancelled this year April after it folded.

They took 10 out of total order of 15, the remaining 5 was stucked for some time before Airbus called it a day.

5J already have plenty of aircraft to go on with their recently announced orders...and would find it difficult to absorb additional frames that fast.

So the NEO is now outselling the MAX but about 43%. Incredible year for the NEO and I don't attribute many of the sales to the MAX issues.
