Sun Country was supposed to also start operations in Fargo but, Delta decided to pull a power move after they found out about the possible addition and upgrade their two launches to a 757-200 and eventually a 757-300 and a 717 forcing Sun Country to cease a possible operation at Fargo. Just thought I'd post this here as an FYI of Delta noticing this expansion.

SY was never going to add FAR-MSP. Also, DL has never operated a 757 between MSP and FAR. The largest plane on this route is an occasional 737-900ER.

Huh?

Sorry, I looked out at spring break and they are only 717. They must have moved from the 737 to a 757. Either way, the FAR announcement was only a rumor.

I almost wonder if they're leaving JFK because Delta would have eventually kicked them out of Terminal 4.

Delta could not have forced them to leave Terminal 4 and could not prevent them from coming back.
if assumptions could fly, airliners.net would be the world's busiest airport

I'm not suggesting some evil occurred. I was only asking the nuts and bolts of the slots? I'd assume B6 was involved.

Put another way. Find out whose gate they will use at EWR and you probably know who got the JFK slot/s.

Thats a good point. What happened to the slots?

And why was the departure from JFK so hush hush and unknown after decades of continuous service?

All very odd.

We all know EWR is hard for an airline to get into these days. Turkish being a perfect example. Maybe the airline saw an opportunity to get into EWR & they took advantage of it?

Being EWR is considered a NYC area airport maybe they felt there was no need to mention dropping JFK since they will continue serving the NYC area through EWR? Just guessing on my part.

Is still very odd because

1. there’s a gap in service

2. They never actually announced that they’re dropping JFK

3. They waited until the day JFK service ended to talk about this expansion into EWR

4. Again, they have been at JFK for decades

I wonder if something happened or a deal was struck

Something just doesnt follow a logic trail

It does seem odd but come to think of it, SY is never very vocal about dropping routes. I think because they are never very vocal and the fact that they are still serving the market that they did not see it as a huge deal. Still makes me wonder why they switched to EWR though!

SY only has interline agreements with Emirates, Icelandair, and Condor to my knowledge. Did I miss any?

sounds about right, but I see nothing coming thru EWR from these carriers. after all, only EK doesn't serve MSP directly in the summer, so SY certainly isn't planning NYC strategy around connections....

FWIW, SY finally has ship 831, N860AM in MSP. plane has been sitting in RFD. I'm sure they just taxied up I-94 to get home. No rumor on new jets for 2019, YET

The Spotters here in MSP have called SY colors Tide Pod, as in the laundry soap. Today a posting was made after it landed as TIDE POD 2

Its very strange indeed. Their web site still says nothing about it. There is currently no service available. They used to offer tons of connections through MSP from JFK as well. They even did a few JFK-LAS one offs.

Service from Newark starts in April at only 4 weekly!!! So they moved and with less capacity even.
