They added BIL back earlier this year. It was announced at the same time as BTV, BOS, GRB, and BFM, and has been running 3x week on an A320 since late May. It even got extended to year round (I believe it was initially announced as seasonal, but I could be wrong), as it’s currently shown to be operating through the winter at the same frequency and same aircraft (3x weekly, A320).

Denver Auditor TIm O'Brien recently said the DIA administration was not responding to the auditor's fiscal guidance. So there may be more issues out there than just the Ferroval contract cancellation debacle. It has not been a good year for the Denver airport queen.

The current contractor was given 90 days to leave the property which runs through the end of October. The airport is currently working on finding a new contractor to finish the work, the new deal will not be a public-private partnership and the airport will stay in control of the project this time. They are expected to start in Q1 2020.

Not a lot unfortunately, I have recently heard rumors that the opening has been pushed back to 2020. It seems that a lot of companies don't correctly estimate the amount of time it takes to do construction in the airport environment. The priority pass lounge should begin construction sometime in 2020.

Yes, they charge a premium for the convenience of taking a nonstop flight. This is nothing new and goes for the NRT, LHR and FRA flights as well. If you want to save money flying to London look for a connecting flight. I recently flew to FRA and the airfare was much less expensive flying through ORD or IAD on United then taking the nonstop DEN-FRA flight. While the nonstop flight might save you time, it does not always save you money.

FWIW I have exactly the opposite experience traveling to FRA. The Lh non stop has always been 9in my experience) cheaper than connections. It just shows how variable air fares are.

I would agree with your observation of the competitive nature in the California market. United may have a couple of more years of (sole) no competition to Hawaii here in DEN. However, it would not surprise me if at some point in the near future either Hawaiian or Alaska will introduce competition. Also, once Frontier has the 321LXLRs they will most likely enter the picture. For the time being, UA has the non-stop market to the islands to themselves.

I was checking in a DEN a month ago standing next to a 1K member going to FRA. He was traveling DEN-AUS-FRA. We struck up a conversation and he said it was significantly cheaper and the Austin flight to FRA has been a super cheap option for him lately as he goes to FRA a ton for work and used to take the nonstop he said. I'm not sure if he was in economy or business class. The ticket agent said she has seen numerous people going through AUS on the FRA LH flight. Interesting for sure!

The Priority Pass will be by a private 3rd party company, the lounge will be on Concourse A. They have not announced where it will be but there is not a lot of extra space on A, so I would't be surprised if it doesn't open until the new expansion opens.

I would love to see AF in DEN, but I doubt that'll happen. They're not exactly in expansion mode, and I can't remember the last time they launched an all-new city in the U.S.

At this point, I could almost see UA adding another transatlantic flight out of DEN. If DY is really dropping DEN-CDG, then I think UA could make a go at it as a short summer seasonal.

According to the OAG report this week it is coming back and starting in April, It actually looks like it receives a slight capacity increase. I have not heard anything otherwise.

DEN has selected the new construction company and design firm to begin working on the construction in the Main Terminal once the current contractors leave on Nov 12. With the selection made the choices will now go to city council for a vote which they hope to have before the end of the year. This gives some hope that the construction could resume at the beginning of 2020. In a previous press release, the airport received permission to keep some of the current contractors working on enabling projects until the new project team takes over. The main project is the relocation of the TSA Central Monitoring Facility which was suppose to be relocated this past June, this should help the new teams coming in to get back on track.

I am unsure if WN will add DEN-RIC nonstop service anytime soon with WN currently serving only ATL, MCO, and TPA nonstop from RIC, but WN adding DEN-RIC nonstop service is a possibility since:
(a) WN has plans to significantly expand its DEN operation,
(b) RIC is one of the top destinations that WN doesn't currently serve nonstop from DEN,
(c) Even though UA already serves RIC nonstop from DEN, RIC is currently the largest market in the contiguous U.S. without nonstop LCC service to DEN,
(d) WN has recently added nonstop service to DEN from other destinations inherited through the WN-FL merger such as DSM and MEM,
(e) There is an significant amount of passengers connecting to destinations west of the Rocky Mountains from RIC,
and (f) WN would be able to offer 1-stop connecting service to additional destinations from RIC if WN adds RIC-DEN nonstop service.

DEN really needs to expand the deicing capabilities of the airport, with perhaps a 10 spot deicing pad on the eastern side of the airport. That could increase the departure rate significantly, perhaps by about 30 an hour. On the East would relieve a ton of damp congestion trying to squeeze the entire departure operation out of the west side of the airfield. The deicing lines can be incredibly long.

Another East/west runway would also help out big time on windy days.

Realistically, I can see DEN-PVD and MAYBE MHT. WN has been cutting a lot of lift at MHT in the past 5 years (they used to have upwards of 25 daily departures, now they're down to about 10) but they don't seem to have a lot of room to grow at BOS, so we may be seeing a return to a more balanced presence at MHT/BOS/PVD. PWM is a bit of an outlier and given that WN seems very uninterested in that station (WN has stayed at 4x daily to BWI since they inhereted PWM from AirTran) it doesn't seem very likely that they will make a big push to add lift there.

Another note, as of right now UA has PWM-DEN scheduled as a daily flight starting in June, up from weekend-only service this past season. BTV is back as well but staying as weekend-only.

Also in DEN news, United will be launching DEN-NAS next March. Pretty nice to see a Caribbean route.

Speaking of which, did that Cayman route ever fly? It was supposed to start right around the time the Max was grounded.

The route did operate, it was actually fun to watch. It was either a substitute Grand Cayman 737 with a fuel stop or an Eastern 767. I guess some passengers really lucked out.

Along with WN's growth next year, UA announced at their recent employee event that DEN will be moving up to 550 departures a day next summer. With DEN just hitting the 500 mark this past summer that will be a 10% increase year over year.

There aren't too many of them in UA's fleet, and I think they like them for the hot and high and lower frequency and capacity for the Latin American and Caribbean markets from IAH and EWR. I don't think ORD, SFO, or LAX see much of the UA 73Gs at all either.

Anyone know what’s going on with WK’s 2020 schedule? It’s been significantly reduced to just a 3 month run. SAN is being reduced even further. This year, it was 32 or 36 flights. Now it’s going down to 24 in 2020. Is WK long-haul ops overstretched, sudden weak demand or ultimately pulling out?

It operated, and by all reports was a very successful launch. The Max grounding really hampered things, some flights were operated with the 737-300 (sometimes with a fuel stop, sometimes non-stop) or a leased Eastern 767 on heavier days. Wouldn't surprise me if it eventually went year round!
