LH uses the 744 for the last time on FRA-IKA route

Sun Jan 13, 2019 8:43 am

I believe it hasn't mentioned yet (please mods, delete if it has).

This morning at 05:36h Lufthansa landed back in FRA with its D-ABVS (744) for the very last time operating on this route.

Flights to Tehran will be flown temporarily by A333s until LH makes the final switch to the A340s fleet.

LH was the only European carrier flying to Tehran with Boeing equipment. Only Austrian and Lufthansa remain in Iran (of the EU carriers with scheduled flights).

Your subject strongly suggests 747-8i to IKA
fly Saha Air 707s daily from Tehran's downtown Mehrabad to Mashhad, Kish Island and Ahwaz

Doesn't TK fly Boeings into Tehran? We can consider them a European airline and IST is located on the European side of Turkey.

TK flies it's 73H on one of it's daily flights.

If it's not Boeing, I'm not going!

Will the final switch be to A343 or A346?

I deliberately chose to fly LH for my vacation to Iran in 2017/2018 in order to experience the 747-400, most likely the last time for me considering it's current departure out of active service.

IST and TK haven't been "European" in any meaningful sense since 1453.

I love the B744 and it's always a great experience to be on it. However, LH's 31' in economy is making it rather uncomfortable on longer flights, especially if the person in from of you puts his seatback down.

Possibly, but probably not - the 748 fleet is premium heavy and rotates seasonally around the world, adjusting to varying demand. The A343 is a better fit, combining the right balance of capacity and load factors for the route.

Fleet commonality, while not necessarily essential, would be nice to have with Austrian, allowing a secondary source of parts should something become necessary.

IST and ISL (newairport) are in Europe, which makes TK main HUB European.
Even more, Turkey has strong connection with most of Europe.

Istambul airport and Turkey as a Nation are not anywhere near in Europe
They've got to do a lot of work before being considered an European Country!
FRA, AMS, CDG those are the main European Hubs... also MAD, MUC, FCO ... IST is a really important airport in the Near Orient, but not an European Hub, imho
Aeroplane flies high

AFAIK there is no formal announcement on LH's 744 phase out schedule.

I do think they still have a few years left, at least until all 77X are delivered.

Wishful thinking.
Edit: Turkey and TK strongly WISHED they were part of Europe.
Fact: Turkey is a powerful and [much too] big near-East country with a stretched tenee tiny foot in the European continent and a huge ego coupled with a burdensome political agenda that does nothing to help their case within European circles.

BA used to fly the 777 to Tehran until recently when the flight was suspended because of the sanctions. Will be interesting to see how successful this flight remains for LH given the sanctions and the issues that could arise in case of tech issues like the Norwegian 737 stuck in Shiraz.
