WN doesn’t have ETOPS and I don’t think a 737 can fly non-stop from RDU-HNL.

NK into RDU seems obvious especially after the F9 adds - TUL not so much...

Thats very interesting. Although i cant imagine who would do that route that would cause all the fuss. Perhaps the carrier, whoever it is, is announcing new service to TUL from XXX and RDU from XXX.

F9 TUL-MSY and RDU-MSY... so they can then drop them in about 3 months.

Assuming it turned out to be the 3rd flight to Europe:

If it's AMS -> I'd consider DL more likely than KL, their 763 seems to fit the route well

If it's FRA on one of the A++ partners (to make sense of the United Club) -> I'm not quite sure which airline would be better suited. UA has the 763 and the 788 which would both seem to fit the route well in terms of size. I just can't quite come up with how they'd pull it off, since none of those types flies to FRA regularly so a W pattern through Frankfurt is unlikely. In that case RDU might even gain a domestic widebody too
LH generally doesn't have aircraft in that size range, however they have a fleet of very low-density, premium-heavy A333s (4F 42C 21W 145Y) which could be suited well for a route that would most likely be driven mostly by business contracts.

That’s what I’m thinking, though I can’t imagine why NK would choose TUL if theyre also doing RDU... perhaps the announcements aren’t related at all, just twitter coincidence

It won't be DL. Their earnings call starts at the exact same time. Don't see a new RDU route being thrown into the mix there. They have their plate full elaborating further on their revenue projections for 2019 after their negative pre-announcement earlier this month.

Not sure why that'd be news, seeings as multiple airlines already fly MSY-RDU.
Even if none did, I'm still not sure why that'd be worthy of some large announcement.

Not really UA's thing.

Unless they've had some major shift in priorities (which would be great, seeing as they have 787s that could open smaller stations, whereas LH does), then connecting medium nonhub gateways to LH's network has never been an objective of theirs.

It really is a head-scratcher, how CM continues to avoid expanding into medium US markets.

I think that was probably a joke. I don't think the poster was being serious and likely is aware a 737 can't do that route. I bet he was poking fun at how long WN has been delayed in starting Hawaii service.

How about AS to SJC, PDX, and SAN?

This is RDU's top 6 List: Montego Bay (Done), Punta Cana (Done), Montreal (Done), Mexico City, Beijing and Shanghai. So maybe it's one of the 3 NOT Dones.

A part of me wonders if it's in fact RDU-MEX on AM. However, logic tells me that it's likely either daily RDU-SAN, daily RDU-MSY, or Spirit introducing RDU-DFW/DTW/ACY/FLL. RDU-FRA on LH would be amazing, but I think it's about 5-10 years away.

FWIW, the 'BIG' announcement two years ago on Facebook 'live' was Virgin America to SFO (March 9, 2017) and it seems like they also did Delta's RDU-AUS on the same day.

Last February they announced F9 'live' on Facebook moving to 15 destinations from RDU...adding BUF, HOU, MKE, MSY, SAT and SJU.

Playing around F9s website I see RDU-MSP and RDU-DTW added in May. I believe these are new for F9 @RDU. Also, unlike last night, all the Mexico codeshare cities are coming up. May it’s a joint announcement if Volaris MEX-RDU?

Since we are all throwing ideas out there..
I worked there for about 6 months in 2016 and the one thing that became very apparent was the massive amount of middle eastern connections on flights out of RDU. I had heard a few times that once they had a business case for it, one of the ME3 would add a flight. Either them or Air India.

I'm not saying that will happen, but it's something I heard. We will know in 30 mins!

Great sentiment, that is basically how I felt early this morning too. AS may not be ready to push an offensive out of a less than major metro area on the East Coast yet, not saying RDU doesn’t have business advantages, but BOS, BWI or JFK they are not.

It sounds like the more cautious & careful planning AAG is well known for. In 5-10 years from now, AS will be better poised, Flying longer range MAX aircraft, They will hopefully be in all the top ten markets from SAN, LAX, SJC, SFO, PDX, SEA & ANC by then.

I expect routes like LAX-PHX, LAS-RNO, SAN-LAX, SJC-BUR to be an E-175’s, AAG will have to go shopping with Boeing for 60 or more. I hope AS contains growth, to strengthen presence in their hub & focus cities. But I still bet PDX-DEN is a dream still?

I'm surprised that NK didn't announce RDU-DFW nonstop service when DFW is one of the largest NK stations. There is also less competition on RDU-DFW than on many of the other nonstop routes out of RDU with AA currently being the only airline serving DFW nonstop from RDU (even though WN does have 1 daily nonstop to DAL from RDU).
