Tue Jan 15, 2019 2:27 pm

Seasonal service starts May 22, twice weekly.

I will be curious to see how this works out.

I went to college in BLI and was surprised at the Alaska ties there. It has the start of the ferry line there, as well. Many people went there for fishing work in the summer.

No doubt hoping to pull some Canadian pax in vs. AC's seasonal YVR flight.

That's cool. I want to say that this'll do well since demand is almost infinite to Alaska in the summer, but SY's SEA-ANC flight might not be returning next year (not available for booking), and that was to a larger market with higher frequency, so we'll see. BLI does have more Canadian traffic going for it though.
Long live the Boeing 757!

Wishing them the best of luck. If their predictions are true, they’ll have no problem getting butts in seats. I know there is a large community of seasonal fishermen that reside here in Oregon (some guy from deadliest catch) was living on the Oregon coast until recently & there are even more that off season in Washington.

People make careers working like dogs during the different seasons up in AK & come here to Oregon where there is no sales tax & spend their prior seasons take & they take almost half a year off yearly & don’t need to work during the down time.

Allegiant (G4) to start BLI-ANC

Tue Jan 15, 2019 8:30 pm

I was just thinking a few months back this might be a possibility.

Flights begin May 22nd, summer seasonal. According to Allegiant.com, flights operate Wednesdays and Saturdays through August.

I just saw it on their web site and was wondering if I missed the announcement. lol

The flight on Wed seems to be on the ground for several hours, OR another announcement is on the way.

I still think there's a market from Alaska to LAS/AZA. FAI and JNU are similar size markets to many that G4 services, and ANC has limited competition in the winter, although I am sure AS would jump on ANC-LAS in a heartbeat if G4 tried it. The route length would also be close to their longest in the system.

I wonder if they figure on a lot of delays and on the first flight, the turn around time is about 4hrs (arrives in ANC at 10:26am, departs at 2:20pm) . The remainder of the flights have a turn around time of 2.5hrs

In the past Alaska has flown ANC-LAS and ANC-PHX.

Don't recall when it ended but know someone who flew ANC-LAS during the summer of 2014.

They may get some decent traffic from Metro Vancouver as AC's seasonal YVR-ANC fares are nowhere near as low.

How long of a flight is that?
I’ve spent my fair share of time in the back of Allegiant ‘buses. Not bad for a short hop, anything longer though and it gets a bit uncomfortable.

Wow! A very cool niche route. If ANC is a successful venture for G4, maybe they could give the likes of BOI, GEG and OAK a shot in due course! I also can't help but wonder about the possibility of an AS PAE-ANC service (if only seasonally).
Flying in the middle seat of coach is much better than not flying at all!

But those are seasonal migrations aren't they, rather than daily/weekly commuters?

Granted, I do see some one-way market for NW Washington/SW B.C. residents using BLI (like SEA) going to or returning from an ANC (Seward/Whittier) cruise, filling seats in the middle of the season. Otherwise, does this fit G4's more sun-focused market plan?

Oddly, this feels like a solid route for them to attempt. So much demand from that general area to ANC, especially in the summer time. We'll see.

Because it's a long and thin route, yet seemingly one that could definitely work very well for Allegiant. Alaska couldn't make GEG-ANC work, but AS targets a completely different customer base than G4 does--so I guess that's not a great comparison.
